www.datacenterdynamics.com/AWARDS
Uinnova, Huawei and China Unicom (Joint project), NTT Com, Shanghai Data Solutions (SDS),
China Mobile and Huawei (Joint project), China Unicom-Tencent Operation Team collected
the prizes at the second DatacenterDynamics (DCD) Greater China Awards, which were
announced at a gala awards dinner in Beijing on December 12 in 2013.
The Awards were presented after strict selection and evaluation by 16 data center experts,
led by Zhong Jinghua, the deputy chief engineer of CEEDI, and Stephen Worn, the CTO of
DatacenterDynamics.
The DatacenterDynamics Awards recognize innovation, leadership and ‘out of the box’
thinking in the data center industry around the world. Since launching in 2007 in London,
the Awards have expanded to Europe, North America, Middle East and Latin America. Up till
now, the Awards have been granted to more than 100 data center projects/professionals.
For the second DatacenterDynamics Awards in the Greater China Region,
DatacenterDynamics introduced six categories, including Future Thinking & Design
Concepts, Innovation in the Medium-Data Center, Innovation in the Mega-Data Center,
Innovations in Outsourcing, The ‘Green’ Data Center, and Data Center “Special Assignment”
Team of the Year.
As the most innovative and most rapidly developing data center market in the world, the
Greater China Region has increasingly growing demand for white space since 2010. With
an annual growth rate of white space reaching 23%-31%, this region has exceeded other
developing countries in terms of data center development, and is expected to reach the
scale of the whole North America Region by 2028.
Commenting on the Awards, Dedric Lam, the Chief Executive Officer of Asia & Middle
East of HYPERLINK "http://www.datacenterdynamics.com/"DatacenterDynamics said: “It is
extremely difficult to select 6 winners among the 50 most innovative and disruptive entries
this year. The quantity and quality of those entries demonstrate that the data center industry
of the Greater China Region has met peoples’ high expectations, and this is also the most
encouraging aspect during the evaluation process.”
“The DatacenterDynamics Awards in Greater China Region proved to be a great success.
All of the winners deserve their awards. These Awards are of great significance in two
important aspects: they are a good platform for demonstrating the achievements made in the
data center industry of Greater China Region, thus promoting data centers to evolve in an
increasingly safer and more energy efficient manner, and secondly, the DatacenterDynamics
Awards, by using scientific and fair evaluation methods, will serve as the benchmarking
standard for data center Awards events in China,” Zhong Jinghua said. He also called
for more data center projects to participate in winning the Awards in the future, hence
enhancing the profile of DatacenterDynamics Awards as the benchmarking standard for
similar events in the Greater China Region.

of our Awards locations.
All entries must be submitted online before the
close deadline. Entrants must answer all the
answers specific to the category they enter,
being mindful of the word count and making sure
they take into account the published judging
criteria and weightings.
All Finalists have the opportunity to present
their projects to the same panel of four judges
via video conferencing - 50 minutes is allotted
to each Finalist in each category and requires
the presence of all parties. Entries are re-scored
based on this presentation and a Winner is
determined.
The Winners are announced at the gala awards
ceremony, not before under any circumstances.
All Finalists are expected to be present at the
ceremony. Winners received a coveted Award,
and Finalists receive certificates.
Each entry is reviewed and scored by an
independent panel of four Judges to decide on
the four Finalists. The outcomes are checked by
the Chair of the Judging Panel before the results
are announced.

About this award
Winner : Uinnova
Visualized Management of Data Center
Sponsor
Behind every definitive product or solution is a great
idea and this Award is about recognising the innovation
and thinking that is shaping the next generation of
cutting edge data center solutions. With the challenges
confronting the industry now moving quicker and hitting harder than ever before so the solutions developed in response
need to raise the bar continually in terms of innovation, ease of deployment and ‘real world’ application. All our previous
winners demonstrate more than anything the power that creative and focused thinking can have in developing solutions
that will make a real and positive difference to data center operation and management.
This Data Center Visualizer system leverages the leading 3D visualization technology
to provide end-to-end visibility for Data Center has been rapidly deployed in many Data
Centers around China after launch by uinnova in September of 2012.
Special challenges on information visualization (as founded by the team of uinnova):
-Complex, multi-system management, each system has its own interface, lack of an integrated view undermines speed
and quality of systems management.
-Current UIs are complex and not engaging, reducing the speed of response and quality of decision-making.
To solve these problems for large Data Centers, uinnova has designed and launched the new creative Data Center
Visualization methodology to visualize all the information of Data Centers and the management system.
The DCV-Data Center Visualizer is the only visualization tool in the world to visualize not only the physical environment,
but also the logical part of Data Centers, such as VM, OS, Databases, Applications, and even the data flow and
transactions.
With the innovative 3D technology, DCV consolidates all the management information from different operation teams
and different Data Center management tools, providing the incredible visibility of Data Center infrastructure and
operation status.
The Data Center Visualizer was accepted by the market almost immediately. Since then, several major Data Center
General contractors and IT management software vendors have integrated the DCV into their Data Center solutions and
built a partnership with uinnova. In the past one and a half years, many large data centers have used DCV technology to
enhance the Data Center management, including CCB, BOC, PetroChina, PICC, and ChinaUnicom.
The Data Center Visualizer integrates with all existing Data Center management systems, providing end-to-end
visibility for Data Center managers, simplifying management, improving efficiency, bringing the true value to Data
Center operation, and even presenting an innovative way for business owners to introduce and promote Data Centers
by highlighting their specific advantages. Besides that, many DCV users have requested that uinnova develop more
functions so that they can expand the benefits from visualization to more areas of Data Center management. Currently,
uinnova is collaborating with customers to create these new features that will cause Data Centers to be easier to see,
understand, and manage.
With the growing awareness of DCIM,
and an increasing acceptance that IT and
facility infrastructure needs to be managed
as a single environment, a huge amount
of data is becoming available to the Data
Centre Manager. Understanding and using
this data is a key challenge. This entry
demonstrates a novel and powerful way of
turning this deluge of data into knowledge
that can be readily assimilated and acted
upon.

China Unicom's Beijing Huangcun IDC data
center project
The Beijing Unicom Huangcun data center (DC) reconstruction project is a key project of
China Unicom, China Unicom aimed to use the project to activate current assets, realize
reasonable asset layout, and improve asset utilization. With a reconstruction area of
about 5600 square meters and involves tens of millions of investments (RMB). Huawei
employed the innovative Internet Data Center (IDC) equipment room construction model and used Beijing Unicom’s two
existing warehouses to reconstruct the original DC into a warehouse-based modular DC. Standard high-density micro-
modular equipment rooms were built to accommodate the maximum number of cabinets. Factory pre-made products
that are easy to install on site were used to ensure that they could be delivered quickly.
DC reconstruction using traditional warehouses faces challenges such as poor insulation, water leakage, and difficulties
with dust-proofing and fire prevention. In cooperation with Beijing Unicom, Huawei addressed all these problems in just
three months, and completed the low-level design (LLD) of products, conducted the product sample test and factory
acceptance test, and successfully mass produced, delivered, and deployed the IDC devices. After meticulous planning
and layout design, dozens of DC micro-modules and more than a thousand cabinets were deployed.

03-INNOVATION IN THE MEGA-DATA CENTER
The DatacenterDynamics Awards are produced and managed by DCD Group
www.datacenterdynamics.com/AWARDS
The mega-data center is the landmark that sustains
today’s technology-driven world. Each enables a
quantity of transactions, storage and IT application
that make possible many business and life activities.
Always newsworthy and occasionally controversial, the
mega-data center (a facility over 2.5MW in total facility
energy demand) - brings with it its own unique challenges. What may constitute a glitch in a smaller facility can magnify
exponentially in a mega-data center. Mission-critical issues of availability, efficiency, redundancy and scalability take on a
higher risk profile in the largest facilities. Market attention has traditionally been focused on very large, flagship projects,
as indicating future directions in best practice and leadership in the data center sector.

05-THE 'GREEN' DATA CENTER
The motivation behind the ‘green’ data center needs little introduction. The ‘perfect storm’ of energy scarcity, energy
cost, legislation and the need for strong, corporate leadership have accelerated the drive towards sustainability in the
data center. So pervasive is the combined influence of these and associated factors on the data center industry that
among the 200+ project entries made into these Awards since 2007 the number not citing its influence can be counted
on the fingers of one hand. This Award will recognise the reality of designing and operating data centers in the context
of environmental scrutiny and to celebrate the success of those who have managed to balance their established
responsibilities in providing a resilient and responsive facility with the consideration of wider corporate, sustainability
and environmental responsibility. Those, in short, who have seen increasing pressures of power costs, regulation,
community and environmental responsibility as an opportunity rather than a problem and have demonstrated their vision
of sustainability as a critical driver in the design and operation of their data facilities.

About this award Sponsor
‘People’ have long been the silent asset of the
data center. Now that is changing, as all elements
of opportunity and risk within the data center are
scrutinized more closely. All of what happens inside the data center depends directly or indirectly upon the people
charged with design, operation and management and since the data center professional is rarely working in isolation,
this places an added premium upon the capability of the data center operator to develop, manage and motivate effective
teams to carry the operation forward. This Award seeks to recognise team achievement where the team has been
convened for a special purpose or task above and beyond everyday duties. This may be at any stage of the ‘strategizing’,
design, construction, fit out, operation, refit or decommissioning of a data center just so long as it represents a ‘special
assignment or series of activities’ in the life of the data center.
This is a milestone project
for Chinese internet users
and will provide insight
for other similar projects.
In the future, we are
expected to see more
such projects in China’s
IDC industry.

is a thorough and systematic work. The whole project went through several
phases, including site selection, architecture and construction planning, new
network framework design and implementations, finalizing migration plans,
setting up check lists of equipment movements, and etc. It’s a quite complex
project that multiple departments inside and outside our bank were involved
and many vendor suppliers and manufactures actively participated. The
relocation process was divided into 6 major batches, and then was cautiously
and extensively carried out within 6 weeks. During this period, we successfully
avoided the risk of the project causing from the “721” natural disaster. The
meticulous relocation planning and thoughtful risk mitigations effectively
shortened the relocation period and thus avoided potential risks of long-
time instabilities in the information system and negative impact to banking
business. Actually, we set up the goal of "zero impact" to our banking business,
and conducted each of those 6 migration batches from midnight Friday to
Sunday night. The success of this project was the result of elaborate project
management and the team collaborations. It truly sets up a good model for
data center relocations in banking business.

The Awards were presented after strict selection and evaluation by 16 data center experts, led by Zhong Jinghua, the deputy chief engineer of CEEDI, and Stephen Worn, the CTO of DatacenterDynamics. The DatacenterDynamics Awards recognize innovation, leadership and ‘out of the box’ thinking in the data center industry around the world. Since launching in 2007 in London, the Awards have expanded to Europe, North America, Middle East and Latin America. Up till now, the Awards have been granted to more than 100 data center projects/professionals. For the second DatacenterDynamics Awards in the Greater China Region, DatacenterDynamics introduced six categories, including Future Thinking & Design Concepts, Innovation in the Medium-Data Center, Innovation in the Mega-Data Center, Innovations in Outsourcing, The ‘Green’ Data Center, and Data Center “Special Assignment” Team of the Year. As the most innovative and most rapidly developing data center market in the world, the Greater China Region has increasingly growing demand for white space since 2010. With an annual growth rate of white space reaching 23%-31%, this region has exceeded other developing countries in terms of data center development, and is expected to reach the scale of the whole North America Region by 2028. Commenting on the Awards, Dedric Lam, the Chief Executive Officer of Asia & Middle East of HYPERLINK "http://www.datacenterdynamics.com/"DatacenterDynamics said: “It is extremely difficult to select 6 winners among the 50 most innovative and disruptive entries this year. The quantity and quality of those entries demonstrate that the data center industry of the Greater China Region has met peoples’ high expectations, and this is also the most encouraging aspect during the evaluation process.” “The DatacenterDynamics Awards in Greater China Region proved to be a great success. All of the winners deserve their awards. These Awards are of great significance in two important aspects: they are a good platform for demonstrating the achievements made in the data center industry of Greater China Region, thus promoting data centers to evolve in an increasingly safer and more energy efficient manner, and secondly, the DatacenterDynamics Awards, by using scientific and fair evaluation methods, will serve as the benchmarking standard for data center Awards events in China,” Zhong Jinghua said. He also called for more data center projects to participate in winning the Awards in the future, hence enhancing the profile of DatacenterDynamics Awards as the benchmarking standard for similar events in the Greater China Region.

Our process has been refined over the last four years and takes into consideration a deep understanding of the data center market at each of our Awards locations. All entries must be submitted online before the close deadline. Entrants must answer all the answers specific to the category they enter, being mindful of the word count and making sure they take into account the published judging criteria and weightings. All Finalists have the opportunity to present their projects to the same panel of four judges via video conferencing - 50 minutes is allotted to each Finalist in each category and requires the presence of all parties. Entries are re-scored based on this presentation and a Winner is determined. The Winners are announced at the gala awards ceremony, not before under any circumstances. All Finalists are expected to be present at the ceremony. Winners received a coveted Award, and Finalists receive certificates. Each entry is reviewed and scored by an independent panel of four Judges to decide on the four Finalists. The outcomes are checked by the Chair of the Judging Panel before the results are announced. • 7. 01-FUTURE THINKING & DESIGN CONCEPTS The DatacenterDynamics Awards are produced and managed by DCD Group www.datacenterdynamics.com/AWARDS About this award Winner : Uinnova Visualized Management of Data Center Sponsor Behind every definitive product or solution is a great idea and this Award is about recognising the innovation and thinking that is shaping the next generation of cutting edge data center solutions. With the challenges confronting the industry now moving quicker and hitting harder than ever before so the solutions developed in response need to raise the bar continually in terms of innovation, ease of deployment and ‘real world’ application. All our previous winners demonstrate more than anything the power that creative and focused thinking can have in developing solutions that will make a real and positive difference to data center operation and management. This Data Center Visualizer system leverages the leading 3D visualization technology to provide end-to-end visibility for Data Center has been rapidly deployed in many Data Centers around China after launch by uinnova in September of 2012. Special challenges on information visualization (as founded by the team of uinnova): -Complex, multi-system management, each system has its own interface, lack of an integrated view undermines speed and quality of systems management. -Current UIs are complex and not engaging, reducing the speed of response and quality of decision-making. To solve these problems for large Data Centers, uinnova has designed and launched the new creative Data Center Visualization methodology to visualize all the information of Data Centers and the management system. The DCV-Data Center Visualizer is the only visualization tool in the world to visualize not only the physical environment, but also the logical part of Data Centers, such as VM, OS, Databases, Applications, and even the data flow and transactions. With the innovative 3D technology, DCV consolidates all the management information from different operation teams and different Data Center management tools, providing the incredible visibility of Data Center infrastructure and operation status. The Data Center Visualizer was accepted by the market almost immediately. Since then, several major Data Center General contractors and IT management software vendors have integrated the DCV into their Data Center solutions and built a partnership with uinnova. In the past one and a half years, many large data centers have used DCV technology to enhance the Data Center management, including CCB, BOC, PetroChina, PICC, and ChinaUnicom. The Data Center Visualizer integrates with all existing Data Center management systems, providing end-to-end visibility for Data Center managers, simplifying management, improving efficiency, bringing the true value to Data Center operation, and even presenting an innovative way for business owners to introduce and promote Data Centers by highlighting their specific advantages. Besides that, many DCV users have requested that uinnova develop more functions so that they can expand the benefits from visualization to more areas of Data Center management. Currently, uinnova is collaborating with customers to create these new features that will cause Data Centers to be easier to see, understand, and manage. With the growing awareness of DCIM, and an increasing acceptance that IT and facility infrastructure needs to be managed as a single environment, a huge amount of data is becoming available to the Data Centre Manager. Understanding and using this data is a key challenge. You are, Very likely, one of them. About this award Sponsor ‘People’ have long been the silent asset of the data center. Now that is changing, as all elements of opportunity and risk within the data center are scrutinized more closely. All of what happens inside the data center depends directly or indirectly upon the people charged with design, operation and management and since the data center professional is rarely working in isolation, this places an added premium upon the capability of the data center operator to develop, manage and motivate effective teams to carry the operation forward. This Award seeks to recognise team achievement where the team has been convened for a special purpose or task above and beyond everyday duties. This may be at any stage of the ‘strategizing’, design, construction, fit out, operation, refit or decommissioning of a data center just so long as it represents a ‘special assignment or series of activities’ in the life of the data center. This is a milestone project for Chinese internet users and will provide insight for other similar projects.
