VOLUNTEER OUTREACH EXPERIENCE
7/14-8/14 Techkowba Camp, Janaji, Rwanda
Project Leader for the LEGO Robotics Module
Designed and taught the lesson plans for the Robotics module of the camp to the ICT (Information
and Communications Technology) teachers and the campers. The camp focused on encouraging,
educating and empowering young girls with life skills, professional skills, and engineering skills.
Assisted in the acquisition of the LEGO Mindstorm Robotics kits, the laptops with properly installed
software and allextra materials necessary for the girls to complete the lessons
Served as a “family leader” which consisted of managing 6 girls aged 11-17 for a 6-day duration and
this gave me the ability to establish strong, personal connections with them and continued contact
after the completion of the camp

9/12-Present Boys and Girls Club of Lansing, Lansing, MI
Volunteer Mentor for LEGO Robotics Club
Currently leading weekly programs for beginning roboteers (~10 students building and programming
LEGO robots) and more advanced students (~6 students building and programming two VEX robots),
and assisted by three MSU student volunteers and an additional volunteer
Helped coach students for First Robotics regionalcompetition at MSU, where (in their first year of
competition) they placed 14th of 22 teams (the only team not sponsored by a school) and won 2nd
place in Research Quality, 11/12
Developed curriculum and led program for one-week "day camp," 6/14
Organized members of MSU's student chapter of the NationalSociety of Black Engineers and MSU
graduate students to serve as mentors for the weekly and summer sessions since 9/12
2. EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
8/11-Present Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI
Graduate Research Assistant for Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the NSF
(National Science Foundation) BEACON Center (The Study of Evolution in Action)
Investigating the use of evolutionary computation techniques to enhance the classification and
localization of malignant breast tumors in a new, innovative way by using microwave imaging for
breast cancer diagnosis
Concluded that using a linear combination of Haralick features to distinguish between cancer and
normalimage is proving to be an insightful way for accurate classification
5/12-8/12 Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Force Projection Department, Laurel, MD
Algorithm Developer for Systems Group (KTS) – Utilized SECURITY CLEARANCE
Completed algorithm development for several remote sensing projects that included:
o An image registration algorithm to merge LIDAR and Hyperspectral data
o Development for Hyperspectral imaging tagging systems
o Chemical plume detection
Performed extensive data processing for characterization of system performance
Continued working on the target motion analysis (TMA) system project that I assisted with in the
Summer of 2011:
o Supported the preparation of the Advanced Processor Build 2013 (APB-13) Step 2 Brief,
which is an essential presentation that determines whether or not a project will receive future
funding
o As a result of the presentation, the TMA system was accepted for APB-13 and is anticipated
to succeed in fleet transition
6/11-8/11 Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHUAPL),
National Security Technology Department, Laurel, MD
Summer Intern for Maritime Systems & Tech Branch (SU), Systems Group (STS),
Image Processing Section – Utilized SECURITY CLEARANCE
Developed algorithms for the passive sonar algorithm team, in addition to assisted with the testing
and delivery a (TMA) system. Researched and implemented several techniques for noise modeling
Enhanced presentation/communication skills by presenting to colleagues and supervisors biweekly
6/10-8/10 Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory,
and 6/09-8/09 National Security Technology Department, Laurel, MD
Summer Intern for Maritime Systems & Tech Branch (SU), Systems Group (STS),
Information Processing Section – Obtained and Utilized SECURITY CLEARANCE
Continued assisting in the progress of the Active Clutter Reduction Program where I developed a
frequency splatter detection algorithm (FSDA) using MATLAB and improved the existing normalizer
program by incorporating the modified exclusion of the frequency splatter detected by the FSDA
Collected those results and drew conclusions based on the output of the clutter cluster routine and
examined the advantages and disadvantages of excluding the frequency splatter in processing
information
3. 2/08-5/10 Morgan State University, Planning and Information Technology Department, Baltimore, MD
Assistant Education Lab Technician
Maintained an efficient academic environment for students to accomplish their academic endeavors
Assisted students and professors with any problems pertaining to schoolwork, software and hardware
equipment
6/08-8/08 AHPCRC (Army High Performance Computing Research Center), Baltimore, MD
Researcher
Attained fundamentalknowledge of topics relating to the finite difference method, high performance
computational methods and supercomputers as well as familiarized myself with Java to create a
matrix solver program
6/07-8/07 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Europe District, Wiesbaden, Germany
Engineering Aide/Project Manager for Project ManagementBranch
Served in ensuring success of MILCON and O&A missions in Germany and Italy by expediting
actions concerning engineering work requests and assembling MATOC (Multiple Award Task Order
Contracts) binders
Managed an assured successful start of an infrastructure project critical to 5th Signal Command
pertaining to HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) upgrades
