West midlands 20 year transportation plan
1. Approval of £9 Billion West Midlands 20
Year Transportation Plan Strengthens Yellow
Cars’ Long Term Commitment to the Region
Agreement on a 20 year ‘Movement for Growth’ plan by The West Midlands Integrated
Transport Authority (I.T.A.) also gives the green light to Yellow Cars’ future travel pledges for
the region.
Darren Thorpe, Yellow Cars Managing Director said, “this is great news for all of our passengers
as we can now better plan expanding and improving our services over the next two decades. For
the past 21 years Yellow Cars has been there for the people of the West Midlands and we’re
excited to drive on better roads well into the future.”
It’s been reported in the national media that £1 billion pounds has been pledged by the Treasury
to the new authority and a further £8 billion earmarked for transportation over the next 10 years.
News of the acceptance of the plan followed a 3 month public consultation process.
Mr. Thorpe added that, “we’re particularly excited about upgrades to the network of motorways.
I made notes on some of the benefits of the plan to our customers already living in specific areas.
Walsall and Wolverhampton will enjoy upgrades to junctions on the M6. Sandwell will see new
works to improve the M5 and M6 motorway junctions. Birmingham will enjoy improvements to
traffic gridlock hot spots and road junctions.”
2. Finally, the Yellow Cars Managing Direction said, “I echo the sentiments of Councillor Roger
Lawrence the Chairperson of The West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority when he spoke
of unlocking the full economic potential of the region. That’s what Yellow Cars is all about as
we continue to expand for the benefit of our passengers and the next generation with this 20 year
strategic transportation plan.”
