2. What is Retail?
Retail describes the sale of a product or service to an individual consumer for personal use,
for small quantity.
Example: -supermarkets, department stores, specialty stores, convenience stores, and online
stores.
Two types of Retail
1- Organised retail
2- Unorganised retail
What is Organised Retail?
In organised retailing, all the items are kept under a single roof and a large number of brands
and variety of products are also available in one place.
Example: - Pantaloon Retail, K Raheja Group, Tata group, RPG group, Landmark group,
Bharti-Walmart, Reliance.
What is Unorganised Retail?
The unorganised retail consists of small business operators who sell non-branded products
on a lower scale.
Example: -local Kirana shops, vendors of clothes, vegetables, mobile vendors.
What is super market?
Asupermarket is a self-service shop offering a wide variety of food, beverages and household
products, organized into sections.
Example: -Big Bazaar, Reliance Fresh, D-mart, Spencer's, and Easy day.
What is hypermarket?
A hypermarket is a retail store that combines a department store and a grocery supermarket.
Example: -Walmart Supercentre, Fred Meyer, Meijer, and Super Kmart.
6. What is Stock Receiving?
There are two types of stock receiving: -
1-DSD (Direct Store Delivery) And 2-DC (Distribution Centre)
1- DSD
In this mode a company product is directly delivered in the store for sale and the
transport charges or any other charges is carried by the company.
Example: HUL wants to sale their product Reliance Smart Bazar, the company
delivered stock in DSD mode.
2- DS
In this mode the store itself order the stock according to the store requirement.
Here the order Indent is two types:
1- Auto Indent and 2- Manual Indent
1-Auto Indent
If any kind of products are present in the store and the requirement is more than
the present product, at that time the indent is Automatically done by the SAP.
Here the indent is made automatically by the inventory control software SAP.
2- Manual Indent
Here the category person of a product in the store himself indent the stock as
per the requirement.
What is SCM?
The stock receiving is done under a management process is called SCM (Supply
Chain Management).
# For Indent a PO is required, without PO the stock is not delivered.
# PO stands for Purchase Order.
# Receiving stock and record it in the computer by a process is called Goods Receipt Note
(GRN) or Goods Receipt Challan (GRC).
