1. Challenges to Leaving Exercise
After teaching the participants about the various barriers of leaving a domestic violence
relationship in the training have them do this activity
Pass out the chart and ask them to AT LEAST write down one reason it would be
hard/nearly impossible to leave a DV relationship for each category
Give them 5-10 minutes then have them share is small groups and then ask for some to
share their reasons in front of the whole group
This should help participants really understand how difficult it is to leave and stop
“victim blaming” survivors of domestic violence, not only will they hear about it in the
training but then they will have to write it down as if they were in a DV relationship and
then share in front of others
This process should help participants understand more the difficult and start to get rid of
their biases and tendencies to “victim blame”
