1. COS FOR LTA BENJAMIN NG, SCHOOL 4 ATO
LTA Benjamin Ng was commissioned in the Officer Cadet School, SAFTI Military
Institute as a Logistic Officer on 15 July 2012. Thereafter, LTA Benjamin was posted
to School 4 of the Singapore Armed Forces Basic Military Training Centre (SAF
BMTC) as an Assistance Training Officer (ATO) to assist the Training Officer in
overseeing the training of the recruits. LTA Benjamin helped in developing the
training programs for the seven companies under BMTC School 4 and ensured
training resources are diligently planned for.
LTA Benjamin Ng demonstrated a strong sense of purpose and drive during his tour
of duty. He took the initiative to conscientiously establish goals for improvement
within his job scope to ensure that the administrative processes and framework
remain robust and efficient to meet the organisation’s aims. He refined the terms of
reference of the roles and responsibilities of an ATO so that the future appointment
holders are able to use it as a framework to appreciate the demands expected and to
economise the potential of the appointment in the organisation. He has displayed a
sense of personal pride to continuously strive to refine and strengthen the
professional effectiveness of an ATO and contribute to the organisation to a greater
extent. He was actively involved in weekly meetings to reflect and review the
trainings of the companies. He held the appointment of secretary for monthly
conferences, planned evaluated the performance of cohorts through end-of-course
reports and results submission.
LTA Benjamin Ng developed a strong working rapport with his superiors and
nurtured interpersonal trust and understanding among his peers and subordinates.
This has enabled him to engage in effective communication in gathering feedback
regarding the daily trainings conducted by the companies, resolving ad-hoc
situations encountered and monitoring the progress of the recruits. Smooth
planning and logistic support for the trainings is contributed largely to close
collaboration with his helpful team in the training branch. His humble and jovial
character makes him delightful to work with and pleasant to be with as a friend.
LTA Benjamin Ng is able to grasp the works of the training branch within a short
time frame. His forth-coming character has contributed to this success of 03 cohorts
of Basic Military Training graduations. His management style has gained admiration
from his team and his constant efforts to build a strong espirite de-corp in the team
duly paid off with closely knitted friendships in a short 9 month posting at BMTC
School 4.
Being a person who is actively seeking improvement, he assisted in 02-graduation
parade 24km route march that stretched from Pulau Tekong to Marina Bay Floating
Platform. The arduous journey did not include the walking portion for him, but his
journey of assisting in the organisation of the route march not included overseeing
2. the whole planning process and ensuring the smooth conduct of the exercise was
not any lesser than the walk itself. Ranging from precise timing to logistic
arrangement to clear dissemination of advise to the other planning parties involved.
The graduation parade at the Marina Floating Platform is also commonly mused by
others as a mini National Day Parade without the story line and fire words. His last
assistance rendered in service for BMTC in the Graduation Parade was with the
Weapon Management team. This operation included meticulous monitoring of
weapon being utilised and the nature of the sensitivity of the weapon being carried
in the public added challenge to the management team.
LTA Benjamin Ng also managed tasking that was not under his job scope. A clear
indication of his conviction towards the tasking given to him was when he assisted
in 2 direct enlistments that are not within his job scope but he was tasked due to
shortage of an admin officer to assist. LTA Benjamin Ng was diligent and conducted
his due planning, checks and final inspections to ensure smooth operation of the
direct enlistments. On one of the direct enlistment, due to his diligence, he adverted
a last minute scramble that could have caused negative experience to the public as
the direct enlistment involved parents. While conducting his walk the ground, he
spotted a fallen false ceiling due to water seepage in the briefing lecture room. His
diligence also give the unit sufficient lead time to re-plan the direct enlistment
process for a smooth flow. His dedication was recognised and awarded by
commander SAF BMTC good service coin presented by Commander SAF BMTC
himself.
Throughout his tour of duty, LTA Benjamin Ng has shown to be able to put forth his
views clearly, concisely and effectively and has also display a flair for sound
reasoning and judgement. Given the dynamic and diverse challenges an ATO faces
daily, LTA Benjamin Ng has thus far managed to, together with his team members
and coupled with his resourcefulness, make the best out of every situation. His
precision for solution and determination to excel trusted his reliability among his
peers and subordinates. Superiors also feel at ease with him in the team. All in, LTA
Benjamin Ng portrait himself being able to lead in a team as well as being a team
player making him an all rounder which able him to handle situations in a calm and
effective mood.
In conclusion, LTA Benjamin Ng has proven to be an effective and passionate leader
and team player and I wish him the best in his future endeavours.
