Holland attended Norfolk State University and
earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
In 1992 she returned to D.C and worked for Senator
Edward M. Kennedy as a legislative foreign policy
aid.
In 1994 she moved to Atlanta, GA for a career in
concert promotion with Allan Haymon Productions.
But instead of taking the job with Haymon
Productions she joined the LaFace Records team as
Paralegal.
Next she took a job at Ernst and Young accounting
firm as a executive consulting assistant.

After 3 years at the firm Holland decided to go to law
school at Regent University School of Law in the fall
of 1999.
In her last year in law school her then brother in law
Terrence Trammell convinced her to manage him
and it was then that her career as a sports agent
blossomed.
In May of 2002 Kimberly N. Holland launched her
own agency in Atlanta, GA called Icon Management.
From then on she has been a agent to athletes
mostly in Track & Field.

Why did this person choose this career
path?
Holland chose this career path after
taking a leap of faith to support track
star Terrence Trammell. She believed
that this career was her destiny and it
wasn’t until she became his agent that
she truly realized that. She previously
had interest in the entertainment
business but has said she never really
had an interest in sports but no longer
had the desire to be a law attorney.

job?
Being a part of the sports industry is a tough in itself
but Holland says in multiple different interviews with
Madame Noire, Black Noire and Black Enterprise
SportsBiz that some of her challenges were:
She was a black woman in a male dominated business.
She was underestimated when it came to making deal and
wasn’t taken seriously by other male agents, meeting directors,
and booking managers.
People said she wasn’t qualified to do her job.
Learning the sport and the needs of every client as well how to
handle and adjust to their individual personalities.

What does an average day at work
entail?
Since Kimberly is the CEO of her own agency some of
her responsibilities include broker deals from brands,
negotiating fees for competing in sports events,
appearance fee, and many more. She doesn’t exactly
state in any of her interview her exact daily schedule
but the things written above is a just of some of her
daily responsibilities.

How many hours per week and how much
travel does the job require?
The job of a sports agent is one that doesn’t
necessarily has a number of work hour like many
other job. The job of a sports agent is never ending, it
is a full time 24 hour a day commitment. But when it
comes to Kimberly personally this may actually apply
because she represents a number of athletes from
numerous countries including the USA, Puerto Rico,
Nigeria, and London. Her athletes participate in a
number of meets across the world so travel plays a
huge part in supporting her clients.

There isn’t any direct advice that Kimberly has given
to those who want pursue a career in sports agents
but she has mentioned challenges that would require
one to have tough skin, confidence, and knowledge of
what they do.

they are?
Carl Scheer started of as a agent but moved on to
working under the then commissioner Walter
Kennedy. Since his job with Kennedy, Scheer has
worked with the Denver Nuggets was the President
and General Manager of the LA Clippers and
Charlotte Hornets. But he wouldn’t have gotten there if
it was for Walter Kennedy reconsidering for an
assistant position after the first candidate declined; it
was there that his career truly kicked off.

want to follow a similar career path?
In a spotlight interview Scheer gave advice that is as followed:
1. You must have a passion for what you do in the business in
order to succeed.
2. You have to be willing to sacrifice your personal life for work.
3. You must be willing to work long hours that may not be
completely worth your pay.

ABA All- Star game in 1976.
Carl Scheer is also a minority owner of a minor league
