Anchorman

Synopsis
• Anchorman is a comedy, more particularly a
spoof film of the 1970’s anchormen in America
e.g. the quest for ratings and over the top
hairstyles. This is shown in the scene where there
is a massive brawl between all competing news
stations in San Diego.

Secondary Research
• Box Office Success.
• Anchorman had a limited release in the USA showing
in 3091 screens. It then got a global release in winter
due to its positive reception in America.
Its Limited release made Anchorman $28,416,365 on
its opening weekend on the 11th of July 2004.
By having quite a successful opening weekend it then
went on to make $84,136,909 in the USA alone.
Reviews
• Anchorman received positive reviews when
released.
• Its received a 7.0 out of 10 on IMBD, which
means its mostly positive reviews.
• On rotten Tomatoes it’s.received a 66% Fresh
rating from critics. Mostly positive reviews from
the worlds most respected critics.
• The audience on Rotten Tomatoes (not
professional critics) reviews have given it an 88%.
Awards
Anchorman had been nominated for various awards
such as the people’s choice awards and various MTV
Awards.
It however only one one award which was for Best Film
Music, which was a BMI.
Although it only one one award, it was nominated for
MTV awards and the teen choice awards. This gives
us an insight into the target audience which will be
young adults.
Conclusion
• Anchorman’s Target Audience from the research
we have gathered seems to be primarily fans of
Will Ferrell and Comedy films. They have mainly
used the star factor of Will Ferrell to sell the film.
• Also they have used the principal of fandom to
try and see the movie by using such stars as
Christina Applegate to try and get people that
may not necessarily like comedy or Will Ferrell.
