Barnes van der Walt Architects was founded in 2000 by Dave Barnes and Chris van der Walt. They are
both highly experienced architects and the force behind a powerful, yet adaptable Architectural
Practice that bases itself on changing times where speed of adaptability and quick decisive thinking
are the keys to success.With over 60 years of combined experience, the practice is rich in commercial
architectural skills, new ideas, thoughts and enthusiasm, yet has the stability that is drawn from
experience and understanding gained from previous Practice. We are registeredwith the South
African Institute of Architects, South African Council for the Architectural Professionas well as the
Pretoria Institute of Architecture.

QUALIFIED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF
PRETORIA
Chris van der Walt held the
position of First Architect of the
Pretoria City Council from 1982 -
1987. Chris was the founding
member and director of Studio 3
Architects International. In 2000
together with Dave Barnes they
formed Barnes Van der Walt
Architects. Chris van der Walt
had the responsibility of Design
Director and he has extensive
experience in commercial and
residential architecture with the
emphasis on conceptual
planning, design, presentation
and graphics. Included in his
responsibilities was the follow
through of the design concept
into detail documentation. This
was achieved by staying
intimately involved in design
development and
documentation

QUALIFIED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF
ORANGE FREE STATE
Dave Barnes joined Stauch
Vorster Architects in 1979. He
later on became Associate
Partner by 1984, Director in 1989
and in 1995 hewas Managing
Partner of Stauch Vorster
Architects. In 2000 together with
Chris van der Walt they formed
Barnes Van der Walt Architects.
Dave Barnes has a background
steeped in architectural
practice and project
management. Dave fulfilled the
role of Project Partner, being in
control of a wide range of
projects from conception to
completion spanning in value
from R1m to R300m. These
developments varied from
Commercial to Governmental.
