Santander supports Europe's largest student
entrepreneur event
London, 17th
February 2015-. More than 800 college and university students attended
recently the sixth Student Enterprise Conference 2015 held in Liverpool. The event has been
supported by Santander, through Santander Universities.
The event hosted by the National Association of College & University Entrepreneurs (NACUE)
and supported by Santander brought together budding entrepreneurs and academics, as
well as Santander staff to discuss all things enterprise.
Simon Bray, Director of Santander Universities UK said: “It’s so important to support and
encourage entrepreneurship, especially amongst young people. Student entrepreneurs are
key to the growth and prosperity of our economy and many of them will innovate, define and
lead our future.”
Damian McGann, Managing Director-North Division, Santander Commercial and Corporate,
opened the conference talking about the external factors that might influence our business
and the importance of technology to stay ahead of the competition.
Also speaking to attendees was Anthony Sutton, Santander’s Regional Manager for The
Wirral who spoke about the support that Santander offers to communities through its CSR
programme.
As part of Santander’s support to entrepreneurs, Danny Jones Finance and Operations
Manager, Santander Universities UK presented to the audience the Santander Universities
Enterprise Portal, a new tool for all entrepreneurs. The portal allows users to connect with
other entrepreneurs, learn how to build a business idea and launch it into the market, and
finally the possibility to win cash prizes when taking part in competitions.
Lynne Robertson, Incubator Manager, Santander Corporate and Commercial, gave some
advice about pitching techniques in order to reach and convince your audience.
Also in attendance were Suzy Verma, Corporate Director and Luke Ellis Relationship Director
North both from Santander Universities UK.
NACUE Chief Executive, Johnny Luk said: “We work with thousands of students every year
and they increasingly want to create something that leaves a mark. We’re giving young
people the opportunity to engage with not only experienced entrepreneurs and business
experts, but some of the most exciting, and successful companies of today.”

The event comes just weeks after the Varkey Foundation published a report analyzing the
top 500 global firms’ investment in education and calling on business and world leaders to
support a campaign to encourage more financial support in this area. The report cites
Santander as the leading global contributor with 79% of its corporate social responsibility
budget spent on education, equating to approximately £130m.
