- 0 – Metal halides are widely accepted to be unfit for purpose in the modern warehouse environment. 1 - Long warm-up time: Metal halide lights have the longest warm-up period of any light on the market. Many metal halide lamps used in warehouses and sports facilities take 15-20 minutes just to reach their normal operating temperature. So, you end up operating the lights for longer periods of time, and even during down time, to prevent from wasting warm-up time when turning back on. 2 - Lumen depreciation: Metal halide lights experience significant lumen depreciation, meaning that the quality of light gradually reduces over time. 3 - Cool light and colour shift: Metal halides emit light at the blue end of the spectrum, which can cause eye discomfort. Over longer periods of operation, metal halides can gain a pinkish hue. This is caused when metal vapors in the lamp are expired from heat or burning.
