SAS has three main components: the environment, procedures (proc steps), and data steps. The environment contains the code, log, and results tabs. Proc steps contain procedures like importing data, while data steps contain variable values in a table format with observations as rows and variables as columns. Every SAS program starts with either a proc or data step, ends with a run statement, and uses semicolons.
3. SAS environment
In the SAS University Edition left side there is
navigation panel and in the right side there is
work area.
In the work area there is three tab
• 1)Code: Here in this tab we write our code.
• 2)Log: Here in this tab we can see Error,
Warning and Note if there are in the written
code.
• 3)Result: In this tab we get the result of our
written code.
4. Steps
SAS programming language
contains two steps
1) Proc step (Procedure)
2) Data step
Syntax :
• Every SAS program starts
with either of the step.
• Every line ends with a
semicolon(;).
• Every program ends with
Run statement.
6. Descriptor Portion
In a SAS data set descriptor portion is shown
by writing
proc contains data=libref.dataset;
run;
In the result tab we will get the details of the
data set like number of variables and there
name, number of observation etc. of the
specified data set.
7. Data Portion
In the SAS data set data portion is shown by
writing
Proc print data=libref.dataset;
Run;
In a SAS data set data portion variable values
are there. In the SAS data set
(Row=Observation and Column=variable)
8. THANK YOU!
In the next session we will discuss about
other SAS Statements
