chapter 5.pptx: drainage and irrigation engineering
Power point presentation
1. • 1. Start taking Atomization and Contact Angle data on all surfaces using variable We
numbers.
• We=p𝑣2
l/σ=p2aΔyl/σ
• p=1000kg/𝑚3,a=9.8m/𝑠2, Δy=droplet height(m), l=.0023511m(average droplet
diameter), σ=72*10−3

droplet heights
identified for the
desired Weber
Numbers
Increasing Droplet
height by 9-10 cm
results in an
increase in Weber
Number of about
50
3. • In the process of identifying droplet heights that will result in Weber Numbers of
100, 150, 200, and 250
• Just finished designing new setup
• Limitations of old setup were:
• 1. Maximum height which only yielded a Weber Number of around 180
• 2. Adjusting the height between Weber Numbers also caused a slight rotation which
results in a change of distance and position of the droplet relative to the camera.
This necessitates a lengthy preliminary calibration time between each Weber
Number that can be avoided by adding a slide rail to our setup
4. • Our current setup is much easier than before to control motion in the X, Y, and Z
axes
• Chunfang helped with the design and assembly
• It is called “The Crane”
5. NEXT STEPS:
• 1 more day of testing previously identified droplet heights to ensure that desired
Measured Weber Numbers are consistent within a margin of plus or minus 5
• Take impingement data on all surfaces starting with Weber Number=100, then
increase Weber Number in increments of 50 until impingement data has been taken
on every surface up to Weber Number=250
6. CONCLUSION:
• My last day in the lab for the summer is Thursday, May 10
• Preston’s wedding was great
• Chunfang and I ate steak and shot guns afterward
