Define Phase
Identify the product and/or process to be improved, and ensure that
resources are in place for the improvement project.
DELIVERABLES
D 1 : Project CTQs - The top few critical to quality customer requirements (CTQs) for a
product or process balanced against strategic DuPont Nylon business requirements.
D 2 : Approved Charter - A Team charter that describes the purpose & goals of a six
sigma project
D 3 : High-Level Process Map - A high-level process map that graphically displays the
major events occurring in the process.

Measure Phase
Define the defect(s), gather baseline information about the
product or process, and establish improvement goals.
DELIVERABLES
M 4 : Project Y - Clearly defined output measure that is a measure of how well your process
or product is satisfying the project CTQ.
M 5 : Performance Standards for Project Y - Specification that defines acceptable values for
the output measure.
M 6 : Project Data Collection Plan and Validated Measurement System - A written strategy
for how you will collect the data that you will use in your project and validation of measurement
system capability.

M 7 : Data for Project Y - Data collected using the data collection plan to assess the
existing performance of the product or process.
M 8 : Process Capability for Project Y - An accurate assessment of how well your
product or process meets the performance standard for your project Y.
M 9 : Improvement Goal for Project Y - Specific goal for improving the product or
process performance.

Examine the data collected in the Measure phase in order to generate a
prioritized list of the sources of variation ( the Xs)
DELIVERABLES
A 10 : Prioritized List of All Xs - A list of all possible sources of variation in your process
that affect the output (Y)
A 11 : List of the Vital Few Xs - The small group of inputs or processes that account for
most of the variation of your project Y
A 12 :Quantified Financial Opportunity - the net financial benefit expected to result from
successful project completion

Develop a solution to improving product or process performance and
confirm that the proposed solution will meet or exceed quality
