Temporary Teachers’ Protest Central Committee has decided to shut down all community schools in Kathmandu Valley on Friday to protest against the government for evicting agitating teachers from Shantibatika.

teachers from Shantibatika.
The teachers were staging a relay hunger strike there.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City had removed the agitating temporary teachers on the 314th day of
their 24-hour relay hunger strike on October 28.
Dinesh Thapa, general secretary, TTPCC, said, “The government removed the teachers from the
protest site without providing them any alternative place to continue their protest programme.
Hence, the temporary teachers, especially those who were staging the relay hunger strike, had to
come up with such a harsh decision.” Thapa further said, “Halting classes in schools is not our
wish but an obligation to pressure the government to address our demands.” he said.
Temporary teachers have been demanding implementation of education act and formulation of
education regulation to give them permanent status. There are around 800 community schools in
Kathmandu Valley.
