Currency by ANZ is our latest app release for iPhone and will be a great help to anyone interested in
foreign exchange rates – ANZ customers and non-customers alike.
“Whether you’re a traveller, shopping online or looking to make international transfers, this app is for
you,” said Eddie Listorti, Global Co-Head of Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities.
The app uses indicative mid-market rates (see below for an explanation), and lets people:
calculate foreign currency amounts
watch/manage their favourite currency pairs
review historical charts
set alerts to be notified when specific currency rates have been
reached.
A first for ANZ
“We’ve developed an innovative customer experience which allows the user to simply hold their
phone over a pricetag or menu and see a live conversion into their home currency. This exciting world
first is thanks to the combination of the device’s camera and Optical Character Recognition software,”
Darren Abbruzzese, General Manager Technology Institutional (acting).
Another nifty inclusion is ANZ BlueNotes content – giving users easy access to valuable, award-
winning economic and finance industry insights.
2. “The app is part of how we’re delivering on our aspiration to be a world-class foreign exchange
provider. We are a super regional bank with many customers and prospective customers doing
business across multiple countries and currencies, so this is a welcome addition,” said Eddie.
What are indicative mid-market rates?
An indicative mid-market rate is the mid-point between the current buy and sell rates from the global
wholesale currency market. Although an indicative mid-market rate is a standard accepted indication of a
currency pair’s current price, as a mid-point between the buy and sell rates it is a guide only and is not a rate
at which you can transact.
A team effort
“It’s no simple matter creating such a useful – and easy to use – app and taking it to market. It’s
thanks to the efforts of many people in Technology and the business, working together, as well as the
more than 100 ANZ beta testers we recruited (via Max), from nine different countries,” said Darren.
