NEGOMBO
(Sinhala: මීගමුව [ˈmiːɡamuʋə]; Tamil : நீர்க ொழும்பு [nir koɭumbu]) is a major
city in Sri Lanka, situated on the west coast and at the mouth of
the Negombo Lagoon, in Western Province.
Negombo is the fourth largest city in Sri Lanka and it is also the
administrative capital centre of Negombo Division. Negombo is one of the
major commercial hubs in
Sri Lanka and it is a very important economic centre in the country with
about 144,551 inhabitants within city limits.
It is approximately 35 km (22 mi) north of Colombo. Negombo is known for
its centuries old fishing industry, with busy fish markets and long, sandy
beaches.
Negombo is a westernized, vibrant city and it is one of the major tourist
destinations in the country. The main international airport
(Bandaranayake International Airport)of Sri Lanka is in
Negombo Metropolis.
4. NEGOMBO
NEGOMBO is a city on the west coast of Sri Lanka, north of the capital,
Colombo. Near the waterfront, the remains of the 17th-century Dutch Fort
now house a prison.
Negombo Lagoon, lined with fishermen’s huts, feeds into the Dutch-era
Hamilton Canal. The canal leads south to Colombo.
Neoclassical St. Mary’s Church, completed in the 1920s, features a ceiling
decorated with vivid religious paintings.
7. 02ND DAY – SIGIRIYA
PINNAWALA
Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is situated northwest of the
town of Kegalle, halfway between the present capital
Colombo and the ancient royal residence Kandy.the
Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage, nursery
and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants
located at Pinnawala village, 13 km northeast of Kegalle town
in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka.
13. 02nd Day - SIGIRIYA
SIGIRIYA…
Sigiriya (Lion Rock) is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern
Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the central Province. Sri
Lanka.
The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that
is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meters (660 ft) high.
According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Choola Wansa, this site
was selected by King KASHYAPA (477 – 495 CE) for his new capital.
He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with
colorful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock
he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place
is derived from this structure - Sīhāgiri, the Lion Rock.
14. SIGIRIYA
The capital and the royal palace was abandoned after the king's death.
It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century, Sigiriya today is
a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved
examples of ancient urban planning.

21. 03RD DAY DAMBULLA
& SIGIRIYA
Dambulla
Dambulla is a large city, situated in the Matale district, Central Province of
the Sri Lanka, situated 148 km (92 mils) north-east of Colombo and 72 km
(45 mils) north of Kandy.
Due to its location at a major junction, it's the centre of vegetable
distribution in the country. Major attractions of the area include the
largest and best preserved CAVE TEMPLE COMPLEX of Sri Lanka, and
the RNGIRI DAMBULLA INTERNATIONAL STADIUM , famous for being
built in just 167 days. The area also boasts the largest ROSE QUARTZ
mountain range in South Asia, and the IRON WOOD forest, or Na Mal
Uyana Aranya.
Ibbankatuwa prehistoric burial site near Dambulla cave Temple complexes
is the latest archaeological site of significant historical importance found
in Dambulla, which is located within 3 km (1.9 mi) of the cave temples
providing evidence of the presence of indigenous civilisations long before
the arrival of Indian influence on the Island nation.

Minneriya National Park is a national park in North Central Province of Sri
Lanka. The area was designated as a national park on 12 August 1997, having been
originally declared as a wildlife sanctuary
26. Polonnaruwa
POLONNARUWA
Polonnaruwa is the main town of Polonnaruwa District in North Central
province, Sri Lanka.
Kaduruwela area is the Polonnaruwa New Town and the other part of
Polonnaruwa remains as the royal ancient city of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa.
The second most ancient of Sri Lanka’s kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first
declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I, who defeated Chala invaders in
1070 to reunite the country once more under a local leader.
The Ancient City of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site

It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka. The city lies in the
midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical
plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is both an administrative and religious city and
is also the capital of the Central Province.
Kandy is the home of The Temple of the Tooth Relic ( Sri Dalada Maligawa) one
of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. It was declared a
world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988. Kandy is a large city in central Sri
Lanka. It's set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea
plantations and biodiversity rainforest. The city's heart is scenic Kandy Lake
(Bogambara Lake), which is popular for strolling. Kandy is famed for sacred
Buddhist sites & End of July & beginning of August celebrating Esala Perahera
(Kandy Perahera) annual procession.

Nuwara Eliya is a city in the hill country of the Central province, Sri lanka.
Its name means "city on the plain (table land)" or "city of light". The city is
the administrative capital of Nuwara Eliya, District, with a picturesque
landscape and temperate climate. It is at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft)
and is considered to be the most important location for TEA production in
Sri Lanka. The city is overlooked by Piduruthalagala, the tallest mountain
in Sri Lanka. Nuwara Eliya is known for its temperate, cool climate- 18°C,
Wind W at 19 km/h, 86% Humidity- the coolest area in Sri Lanka.
Nuwara Eliya is a city in the tea country hills of central Sri Lanka. The
naturally landscaped Hakgala Botanical Gardens displays roses and tree
ferns, and shelters monkeys and blue magpies. Nearby Seetha Amman
Temple, a colorful Hindu shrine, is decorated with religious figures.
Densely forested Galway's Land National Park is a sanctuary for endemic
and migratory bird species, including bulbuls and flycatchers.

RATHNAPURA
RATHNAPURA
Ratnapura is a major city in Sri Lanka. It is the capital city of
Sabaragamuwa Province, as well as the Rathnapura District, and is a
traditional centre for the Sri Lankan gem trade. It is located on the Kalu
ganga (Black River) in south-central Sri Lanka, some 101 km (63 mi)
southeast of the country's capital, Colombo Ratnapura is also spelled as
Rathnapura.
The name 'Ratnapura' is a Sanskrit word meaning "city of gems", from the
Sanskrit words pura (town) and ratna (gemstone) Over 2000 years ago,
when the first Buddhist monks arrived here from the north eastern
provinces of India namely Bodh-Gaya, Varanasi and Pataliputra, they not
only brought with them the Buddhist religion, but since their teachings
were mainly in Sanskrit and Pali they also influenced the local language.
While candy produced from the Jaggery palm is traditionally known in this
region as Ratnapura.

KITHULGALA
KITHULGALA
Kitulgala is a small town in the west of Sri Lanka. It is in the wet zone rain
forest, which gets two monsoons each year, and is one of the wettest places
in the country. Nevertheless, it comes alive in the first three months of the
year, especially in February, the driest month.
The Academy Award winning “The Bridge in the River Kwai” was filmed on
the KELANI RIVER near Kitulgala, although nothing remains now except
the concrete foundations for the bridge (and, supposedly, the submerged
train cars that plunged into the river in the climactic scene).
Kitulgala is also a base for white-water rafting which starts a few kilometers
upstream.
56. 07th DAY-MT Lavinia,CMB
COLOMBO is the commercial capital and largest city of SRI LANKA. According
to the SL statistics /Instruction , Colombo metropolitan area has a population
of 5.6 million, and 752,993 in the city proper. It is the financial centre of the
island and a popular tourist destination.
It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to Sri
Jayawardhanepura Kotte, the legislative capital of Sri Lanka. Colombo is often
referred to as the capital since Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is within the urban
area of, and a satellite city of, Colombo. It is also the administrative capital
of Western Province, Sri Lanka and the district capital of Colombo District.
Colombo is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern life and colonial
buildings and ruins It was the legislative capital of Sri Lanka until 1982.
