located in india
It was an capital of Vatsa kingdom, one of the
sixteen mahajanapadas (ancient kingdom)
Located on Yamuna river (56km) southwest at
Allahabad.
4. It was the ancient city from the late Vedic
empire until Gupta empire.
It became capital by the rulers of Kuru
kingdom, as the old capital was destroyed by
the floods.
5. Kosambi appeared to be very prosperous city
due to its geographical location.
This helped the city to become a trading hub.
Thus people of Kosambi lived a happy and rich
life.
6. In the time of Buddha, King Parantapa,
kosambi was a city of great importance
It was the most important halt for traffic
coming to Kosala and Magadha from the south
and the west.
7. In the Buddha's time there were four
establishments of the Buddist Order in
Kosambi :
1. the Kukkutarama,
2. the Ghositarama,
3. the Pavarika-ambavana
4. the Badarikarama.
8. During excavation at kausambi, a palace was
revealed with its foundations going back to 8th
century BCE until 2nd century CE.
It was built in six phases
Roughly it included three blocks and two
galleries.

stones along with vast network of
underground chambers, superstructures and
galleries.
