2. AUDIENCE
The assembled spectators or listeners at a public event such as a
play, film, concert, or meeting or in this case a game show.
A studio audience is an audience present for the filming of game
shows. The purpose of the audience is to provide applause and
laughter to the game show to make it interesting and for there to
be more sound. Also audiences give energy from which the actors
can feed off of, as well as push them to perform to the best of
their abilities. This also means presenters have to work for the
laughs. A studio audience can also provide volunteers, a visual
backdrop and discussion participants.
3. REPRESENTATION
The description or portrayal of groups, ideas or topics.
In game shows the presenter or host is usually represented as a helpful
warm friend like person who symphysis's for you during the game. The
audience is usually portrayed as encouraging and interactive as they
prove the backdrop and sounds to the show. The contestant can be
presented in many ways but the are usually presented as determind to
persevere to win the show. The media chooses to portray these
characters in a certain way to make you feel sorry for or like a certain
thing or person.
4. MEDIA LANGUAGE
Media language is the way media text is shown to the audience
Game shows have 3 main elements. The presenter, the audience and
the contestants.
The audience is split between a live audience and an audience at
home
Editing allows the show to revolve around the presenter. Sometimes
talking to the audience or the camera or the contestants.
They use things like canned laughter to inject humour into the
programme and guide the live audience to when its safe to laugh.
The laughter will also work on the audience at home because laughter
is contagious.
5. INSTITUTION
Media institution is a company that owns lots of other companies in
the mass media: Television, radio, film.
These bigger companies sponsor game shows a lot with their prizes
and adverts.
People will more likely want to be on the game if the prize is good,
and the audience is more likely to buy the product if its featured on
their favourite game show.
The companies feature their adverts right before and after the game
show so viewers see it all the time.
