• Inspire students by telling them my story
3. Objective 1: Report back on
ZSP to UK Rotary Clubs
• I visited Rotary Clubs in Ipswich,
Shoreham, Brighton and Hove
• I explained why ZSP and PLCI
are needed in Zanzibar
• I reported on how money is being spent
(e.g. Kio Kits, books, swimming, the
nursery school project)
• I visited an Interact club in Sunbury
where students are interested in the
microfinance project
4. Objective 2: Present PLCI and ZSP at the
District Rotary Conference in Eastbourne
• I gave a presentation on the role of
Rotary Clubs in Zanzibar, the USA
and the UK in improving education
in Zanzibar to 600+ people
• The presentation was very well
received and the District Governor
has suggested me as a speaker at
the World Conference in Atlanta
• I met many useful contacts at the
exhibition stand which also was a
fund-raising activity
5. Objective 3: To improve English
via a language course
• I was delighted to be placed in the
Advanced English group
• I particularly enjoyed experiencing a new
way of being taught and working with
students from around the world
• As the only one from Africa, I found my
ideas were always different!
• My home stay family are planning to visit
Zanzibar
• My host may join the Brighton and Hove
Soiree Rotary club!
6. Objective 4: Learn advanced
TEFL techniques
• A two-week course for experienced
teachers to give new teaching techniques
• I particularly enjoyed the fact that the
ideas will be practical to implement in
Zanzibar
• I look forward to
sharing the new ideas
with other teachers in
Zanzibar

individuals who will help us develop further
• Article 25 – an architectural
practice specialising in African
public buildings
• Hilary and Ken who can help
develop the structure of PLCI
• Goodall Foundation who can help
with management techniques

• I visited schools around the UK:
– Primary schools (City Academy Whitehawk, St Barnabas,
Bristol, Harmonsdworth)
– Secondary schools (Northgate High, Ipswich, SMRT, Bristol)
– VI Form College (Varndean College, Brighton)
– Steiner School (Bristol)
10. Objective 7: To inspire students
by telling them my story (2)
• I spoke at assemblies, in workshops and in classes
• The children were fascinated to know more about Zanzibar
and what they could do to help
• I met Japanese students who are studying International
Development at Sussex University

• I visited Woodbridge in Suffolk
• I met the MP for Shoreham
• I met the mayor of Eastbourne who helped with my visa
• I visited the A & E department of Worthing Hospital

• I visited the Bull Ring in Birmingham
• I crossed the River Thames and went
through the Dartford Tunnel
• I went to the cinema twice
• I visited Beachy Head

• I visited Queen Victoria’s House on the Isle of Wight
• I watched Brighton and Hove Albion play football

i360 and on the pier

• In Bath I did a city tour on an open top bus
• At Marwell zoo I felt sorry for the shivering animals!
• At Oxford I climbed the dreaming spires

• I watched the Lion King at the Lyceum
• I visited the London Eye
• I met the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum

• Marmite, cheese omelette, baked beans
