4. Lea symbol chart test is a series of pediatric vision tests
designed specifically for children who do not know how to read
the letters of the alphabet that are typically used in eye charts.
There are numerous variants of the LEA test which can be used
to assess the visual capabilities of near vision and distance
vision, as well as several other aspects of contrast sensitivity
5. ā¢ The test consist of four optotypes which are
apple,house,square and circle ..
ā¢ They are recognized easily by kids.
ā¢ It is arranged in combination of five symbols per line.
ā¢ In this test the child sees symbols at distance chart and
matches symbol of different size presented on it to
similar symbol on key card
6. LEA TESTING CONDITIONS
ā¢ Ensure the test is done in a well illuminated room
ā¢ The telescopic stick is used in pointing the
symbol for the patient by the examiner
02
7. ā¢ Do not point to the symbol to be read because it makes fixation easier,
especially in case of amblyopia (lazy eye) or CVI.
ā¢ A child with an amblyopic eye or irregular saccades may typically skip
symbols within a line of symbols. If skipping symbols occurs, report
whether it occurred in only one eye or in both eyes. The optotype in the
middle is most often skipped.
ā¢ Ensure that the child understands the test to avoid
misunderstanding and time consumption
