The Interns along with the 3rd yearites BDS Students and staff members
completed following three (3) dental camps during the month of July-August
2012 for the Academic Year 2011-2012.

APMC Dental Camp Report
Date: 23rd July, 30th July and 6th August 2012
Venue: APMC market, Vashi
Organizers: The Department of Public Health Dentistry
A group of interns and 3 staff members reached the venue by Terna Dental
College van at 10 am. A set of autoclaved instruments and case papers were
carried. Tables and chairs were set up for the convenience of the check -up
outside the temple.
The camp was targeted at the workers and labourers of the APMC market with
long working hours who cannot find time for their dental needs. The aim was to
spread awareness amongst them regarding the hazards of tobacco consumption
and also maintaining good oral hygiene.
Dental check-ups were done. Patients requiring emergency dental care and/or
those having precancerous lesions were instructed to come to Terna Dental
College for the needful treatment.
The workers of the APMC market benefited a lot from this camp. Almost 15-20
labourers were examined.

School Dental Camp Report
Date: 1st August 2012 [which is observed as Oral Hygiene Day]
Venue: NMMC school at Karave.
Organizers: The Department of Public Health Dentistry and Lion’s Club of
New Bombay.
A group of 8 interns, 3rd yearites and 3 staff members reached the venue by
college dental van at 10:00 am.
The Lion’s Club and the school administration had set up tables and chairs in
the school assembly hall for the check-up. Posters and educational charts were
also put up. The dental camp started with an inauguration ceremony.

The check-up of students from age group 5-13 years that is from kindergarten to
class VII was done in pairs (by one intern and one third year BDS student). Two
students of 3rd year were managing the registration counter.
Half of the students had very good oral hygiene and the rest half had fair to poor
oral hygiene. Along with check-up, they were also taught ways of maintaining
their oral hygiene. Students requiring emergency dental care were instructed to
inform their parents and come to Terna Dental College for the needful
treatment.

Afterwards, lectures on 5 golden rules of oral hygiene, counseling for
consumption of proper diet and stoppage of tobacco chewing habits was done
by Dr Suchita and Dr Kunal.
The camp ended at 12 noon. Around 200 students were examined.

Govandi Dental Camp Report
Date: 7th august 2012.
Venue: Govandi
Organizers: The Department of Public Health Dentistry and Survoday Finance
Company working for women empowerment
A group of 6 interns and 2 staff members reached the venue by college dental
van at 10:00 a.m. They were warmly welcomed by the members of Survoday
Finance Company. Then we went to Shivaji Nagar slum area where a room with
tables and chairs was set up for dental checkup. A set of autoclaved
instruments and case papers were carried. Dental checkup for all age groups was
conducted . Majority of them had tobacco chewing and smoking habits. Overall
dental hygiene was fair to poor. Use of mishri for cleaning teeth was also a
common habit among the people. Tobacco counseling was done to spread
awareness regarding the hazards of tobacco consumptionand maintaining good
oral hygiene. People were told about dental caries and periodontal diseases .
Patients requiring emergency dental care and /or those having precancerous
lesions were instructed to come to Terna Dental College for needful treatment.
The camps ended at 1 pm. Around 80 people were examined. It was a very
educational experience.
