expected to describe one’s drawing
about the stories/poems listened to using
simple and compound
sentences.
Pre-Test
The Man and the Snake
One day, a kind man saw a snake on the
road. He was about to leave, but he thought,
“This is one of God’s lovely creatures, too. I
will take it home to warm it by the hot fire.
Then, I will set it free.”
He picked up the long snake and
put it in his small sack. The man was
hungry, so he stopped for lunch at a
simple restaurant. He sat by the
fireplace, the long snake crawled out
from the small sack. It was hissing at the
frightened people.
The angry man jumped up and ran to
the fireplace. “Is this how you replace the
kindness of others?” he shouted in a loud
voice. The man grabbed a long stick used
for stirring the fire. He chased the
ungrateful snake out of the restaurant.

neck. After drinking milk, she still eats rice
and fish. She is always hungry.”

Simple Sentences
Compound
sentence
Chrissy looks fierce,
but she is friendly.
Simple sentences have a subject and a
predicate. It expresses a
complete thought.
Nina is fond of pets.
Chrissy is healthy and funny.
Chrissy has a red ribbon on her neck.
Chrissy is always hungry.
A compound sentence has two simple
sentences joined by
conjunctions and, or , or but.
Chrissy looks fierce, but she is friendly.

Pat and Ben are good friends. They
like to play at the big pond. Pat looks
for little fish and Ben looks for green
frogs. Ben grabs a big frog, but it was
too fast. The green frog quickly jumped
into the cold water with a big splash.
Pat told Ben he was too slow.
Ben got mad at Pat. Then, Pat felt
sad. Next, the yellow sun came out,
and it got very hot. Pat and Ben sat
down in the greenhouse to take a
short nap. They ran back home to
get a yummy snack. It was a fun day
at the big pond.

sentences in Column B. Write the letter

The Little Rose Plant

A little Rose Plant lived inside a dark damp
room. One day she heard a soft tapping on her
door. ” Who’s there?” she asked. “I am little
Raindrop. Please let me in,” cried the visitor. “No
way!” said the Rose Plant angrily. Little Raindrop
was very sad to be turned away.
After some time, the Rose Plant heard a soft
rustle near the door. “Who’s there now?” she
asked. “I am Sunny Sunshine,” said the new
visitor. “I don’t have time for sunshine,” said
the Rose Plant haughtily.
A few days later, the leaves of the Rose
Plant turned brown in color, and her
young stem began drooping. Then one
day, she heard the chirping of birds, and
opened her door to see outside.
It was spring, and there were
colorful flowers and greenery all
around. The Rose Plant realized her
mistake. So, when Rain and Sunshine
returned, she welcomed them warmly.
After a few days she had a pink
rose, for which she thanked the
Raindrop and the Sunshine.
Describe the pictures based on the story “The

Lani’s Special Day
Lani’s birthday party was celebrated on a Sunday at
Amparo Eco Park. Her friends attended on her special day,
and they were glad to play fun games with her. They
enjoyed swimming in the pool and eating the sweet cake
that Lani’s parents bought for her. Lani was happy as she
received many gifts from her friends, and she thanked
them for being generous. Everyone sang a beautiful song,
and they even presented a new dance cover just for her. At
the end of the day, they all had fun playing and eating at
the party. It was an enjoyable day.

  • 2. Pre-Test The Man and the Snake One day, a kind man saw a snake on the road. He was about to leave, but he thought, “This is one of God’s lovely creatures, too. I will take it home to warm it by the hot fire. Then, I will set it free.”
  • 3. He picked up the long snake and put it in his small sack. The man was hungry, so he stopped for lunch at a simple restaurant. He sat by the fireplace, the long snake crawled out from the small sack. It was hissing at the frightened people.

One day she heard a soft tapping on her door. ” Who’s there?” she asked. “I am little Raindrop. Please let me in,” cried the visitor. “No way!” said the Rose Plant angrily. Little Raindrop was very sad to be turned away.
