Meet Joe
Joe has been served by
Opportunity Partners’ Semi-
Independent Living Services
(SILS) program since 2010. With
the support of his staff, Joe
participates in activities that
help him build skills to live a
more independent life.
Some of the activities Joe likes
to participate in include: grocery
shopping, cooking, bowling,
bike riding and going to the
movies. Joe’s staff, Orea, also
helps him learn important skills
such as, bike safety and survival
skills.
This successful collaboration
between Joe and Opportunity
Partners has helped him achieve
greater independence in his life.
When asked about how Joe feels
about Opportunity Partners, he
said: “OP is really great. I respect
OP because they’ve done a lot
for me!”

Last year at Opportunity Partners we served nearly 2,000 individuals with
disabilities through programs that foster independence and shape stronger
communities. We are able to provide these services because of your generosity.

When Joe lost his custodial job of 24-years due to a company restructure, he
could no longer afford to live on his own. Joe moved in with his brother and
sister-in-law and struggled to find work for nearly 4 years.
Then in 2010, Joe moved into an apartment of his own in Anoka. This move
allowed him to be served under Opportunity Partners’ Semi-Independent
Living Services (SILS) program. Now, Joe works one-on-one with his SILS staff
to build his daily living activity skills such as cooking, budgeting, accessing the
community and more.
Joe is also supported by Opportunity Partners’ employment services. He
successfully holds two jobs at Medtronic and King Solutions. Joe loves working
and feels a great sense of pride in the work he does.
This successful collaboration between Joe and Opportunity Partners has helped
