It is with great pleasure that I am recommending and writing to you, on behalf of Jon
Walters. Jon Walters has been with our Parks and Recreation Department for over 14 years.
First, as a volunteer on the project fundraising committee for 12 years, and second, as a paid
seasonal employee of the Parks and Recreation Department for over three years.
Over the last three years, Jon has played a vital role in improving and maintaining our
city parks and accomplishing our strategic goals. Jon’s experience in the field management is
unique in many ways. It is not very often that you come across a person who possesses job skills
in a wide variety of aspects. Jon has displayed that he is a confident leader who finishes projects
in a timely matter and that is on budget. Jon uses a wide variety of management techniques to
make sure that those around him feel involved and appreciated for their effort.
Over the last three years, I have seen grow both personally and professionally. After
completing his Associates’ degree at Central Ohio Technical College, Jon enrolled at Cuyahoga
community college and the joint apprenticeship training program to get a degree as a Millwright
and also started his bachelor’s degree at Ohio University. Jon’s education, and outstanding work
habits; along with his commitment to continue to grow personally and professionally, make him
a highly sought after employee.
Over the last three summers, Jon has been responsible for helping supervise the ODJFS
summer youth program and the RHDD youth program. Jon has demonstrated the ability to adapt

2. and change on a moment’s notice. He show’s great respect for his worker’s and his superiors,
while always trying to find a solution to problems. Jon also has been working with me on the
2014 budget and has offered many ideas that will help the Recreation Department with future
budgets. Our parks would not be what they are without Jon’s service as a volunteer over the last
14 years, and more importantly, his leadership during his internship as a paid employee.
