Globalization
1. Globalization
….the process of international integration arising from the
interchange of world views, products, ideas, and other
aspects of culture.
2. Age of Globalization as “an age that
combined great promise with great peril.”
The textbook describes the “age of globalization” as “an age that
combined great promise with great peril” because it was a time of new
hopes and also failed dreams.
Many new innovative things were developing in this time, such as:
New Technology
Science & Medicine
Providing new ideas to the world
Advancements in medicine and health care technology allowed for terminal illnesses to
be healed thus increasing the life span of human beings.
New technology did provide hope for the economy and the people,
however there are always someone who opposes. Environmentalists felt as
if the new technology and shipping of such was going to harm the Earth.
There was a few occurrences of protests about the situation. Others even
argued that it would create huge corporations and lead to the decrease in
the citizens’ freedom.
3. Why 2000?
The year 2000 was when everything began to develop and develop
rapidly. New technology was quickly coming about, Bush was elected as
president, things were changing in the government, and the medical field
was advancing.
Everything that was beginning to occur just seemed to signal hope for the
nation.
4. Is this the first “Age of Globalization” in
America?
No, this wasn’t the first “age of globalization”. There has been times
previous to this when many advances came about at once and began to
present optimism and change the country and the world. One of the
previous globalization ages could be thought to be during the industrial
revolution. Everything was changing then, from fully hand-made items to
machine-made items and from horses to cars.
