1. Questions and Answers for Radio Interview 26/02/2015
1. How would you describe Tenerife Andy – what are the island's
selling points from your point of view?
Tenerife has something for everyone. Country lanes for strolling,
nature trails for hiking, mountains to be scaled and beaches where
you can while away the day.
It’s a magnificent island and has exceptional dramatic scenery
primarily because of its volcanic nature. The mountains never look
the same twice. Not to mention its temperate climate which is
ideal for walking.
2. Is it a shame that people only think of sun, sea, sand and sangria
when they think of Tenerife – or is that perception changing?
Yes it is a shame and that perception is changing. A lot of people
don’t realise that the island also offers varied landscapes and
micro climates. These include moonlike deserts, ancient lava
flows, lush green laurel forest, mountain ravines, and coastal
paths.
3. Are people changing the way they book and plan their holidays?
Yes, the way people book family holidays has definately changed
over the last few years, ie. with the introduction of “all-inclusive”
deals. But also, quite recently a lot of people who have taken the
time to discover Tenerife’s great outdoors are now booking rural
accommodation for their holidays.
4. And would you agree that too many residents also fail to really
explore the island they have chosen as their new home?
Good question. Yes ….. but, in my circle of friends many have
taken the plunge to get to know the island better for example,
seeking out rural restaurants, scuba diving, big game fishing and
attending local fiestas.
5. Tell us a little about the walks and rural excursions you are
arranging.
2. Firstly, I offer a collection of guided walks many of which are
different to the normal ones offered by other excursion companies.
My walks can be tailored to meet individual needs, fitness levels
and aspirations. And it is a personal service for small groups of
walkers.
Secondly, from the 1st
of March, Tenerife Great Outdoors is all
about walking holidays in Tenerife, for example, 7 nights B&B in a
family run hotel in Vilaflor, with 5 days guided walks at £295.00 per
person.
6. What's your favourite walk and why?
That’s easy, my “Wow Factor” walk in the Teide National Park
because after ascending the path up to the Caldera rim at 2500m,
Mount Teide majestically appears in the background embedded in
the magnificent Caldera crater. Many clients I have taken on this
walk simply say “wow” at this point.
7. Do visitors who explore have a particular favourite?
Yes, the Masca ravine is a lot of people’s favourite. But my goal is
to introduce other exhilarating walks on the island that are not
anywhere near as commercialised as the Masca walk.
8. Are the walks organised by different levels of difficulty.
Yes. Easy, moderate and hard. Easy is an 8 km walk near Las
Vegas on good foot paths. Moderate, for example could be the
Mount Samara circuit which is a 12 km walk. The “Wow Factor”
walk as already mentioned would be classified as hard.
9. Can people also organise overnight stays in rural hotels, so
perhaps have a walking weekend?
Yes, I can arrange accommodation for overnight stays or weekend
visits which is ideal for residents. Or just an alternative for normal
holiday makers to the island.
10. Could the authorities do more to promote the 'inner' part of the
island?
3. Yes, and they are. For example in March there is a walking
festival which will be based in Puerto de la Cruz which aims
specifically to promote Tenerife as a walker’s paradise.
11. There really is so much to see and do here – do you ever run out
of corners to explore?
No. I am always hunting for new walks in different areas of the
island to promote its inner beauty. And as a part of this my
walking programme changes to incorporate new discoveries.
