After over twenty years been a professional birding
guide and natural history guide Freddy Madrigal
choose to launch Costa Rica Birding Plus as totally
personalized service option for nature lovers in all
different perceptions of it. Therefore from budget /
professional birding trips to nature, beach and
adventure tours, without forgetting of course Rural
tourism which provides the chance to enjoy Costa
Rica and meet the real Costa Rican at its own niche,
are possible with us.

4. BIRDING TRIPS
 Due to the great bird biodiversity found in our country your trip
can be designed depending on your “wish list” please keep in
mind the length of your trip to cover at least up to three different
birding zones. Costa Rica can be divided into 7 different
important birding zones.
 Every zone has specific species, some of them endemics and a
great variety of near endemics of the 910 species found in Costa
Rica.
 Let us know the amount of days available and if you have a “wish
list” in order to fit the most convenient itinerary for you. Birds
Checklists will be sent for the chosen destinations.
 All the areas listed below can be fitted into private, group or
budget birding itineraries, transportation with or without a
specialized birding guide can be arranged for the whole trip or
plan your visit to these places hiring local guides in every
location by rent a car.

 - Central Pacific, Carara and Manuel Antonio Ntl. Parks,

 - South Pacific. Wilson Botanical gardens, La Amistad
and Corcovado Ntl. Parks, Sierpe river Mangroves.

7. BUDGET BIRDING TRIPS
 The above mentioned locations can be
visited and local guides can be hired if
desire, transportation can be arranged
through shared tours buses or public buses.
Camping is possible in some of our rural
destinations which include farms and
Indigenous Reservations.

8. NATURE TOURS
 Costa Rica has about 4% of the world biodiversity and
approximately 35% of its territory protected under different
statuses of protection such National Parks, Biological &
Private Reserves and Wildlife Refuges. Where a great
variety of tours are possible, such guided walks to the
mentioned protected areas, river boat tours, man made
canals such Tortuguero, etc. Much of the biodiversity can
be sighted during the day or through night tours.
 Whale and marine turtle’ watching is possible and there
are specific seasons for that. We´ll be more than pleased to
provide this information under request. October is the
rainiest month of the year so take this into consideration
when planning you vacations.

10. RAFTING TRIPS
 Areas such Savegre river in South pacific, Toro Amarillo in San
Carlos, Sarapiqui river and the famous Pacuare river where the
“World Rafting Championship” just happens, among other rivers
from class II up to IV can be enjoyed depending on your grade of
expertise.
 Biodiversity along rivers is quite significant and good chances of
seen monkeys, sloths, caimans, crocodiles and a lot of birds, so
either rafting trip o floating are great for these purposes, besides
the adrenaline if that is what you are looking for.
 Best months of the year are from May to December, since our
rainy season is in place, river levels are a bit higher. Although,
weather forecast is nice during the morning, but good chances of
rain at the end of the day, throughout most of the rainy season,
please do not forget that October is the rainiest month of the
year.

12. BIKING / HORSEBACK RIDING TOURS
 If Adventure such as combining biking and horseback
riding during your trip is in your mind or mixed with
beach and other activities, we have the right plan for
you.
 Necessary equipment plus guides and transportation is
included as requested, areas such Sarapiqui, Irazú
volcano, Turrialba, Cachí Lake, Arenal volcano, are
perfect combinations for these activities.

 Some of the most beautiful and unexplored
destinations can be appreciated through hiking and
camping; rivers, waterfalls, Indigenous Reservations;
local farms are some of the locations.
 Tents, meals, necessary equipment for camping plus
guide, we are only missing you to complete this
amazing experience, from two days and on with a
minimum of two persons you can make this happens.

16. CANOPY / HANGING BRIDGES
 Enjoy nature from above, normally we look up, getting
birding neck pain… well, now is possible to look down
as you enjoy nature by visiting either canopy tours,
Aerial Trams or hanging bridges all over Costa Rica, a
mix of a new experience, adrenaline plus nature.
 Hanging bridges are great for birders as well, mostly
those little jobs hard to see from below, well now you
may have them eye level, same for sloths, monkeys and
much more.

18. VOLCANOES / BEACH / SNORKEL TOURS
 Relax!!!
 What a combination, active volcanoes with all the
activities around them and finish it at the beach
sunbathing, snorkeling, Jet ski, fishing, dolphin
watching and why not nightlife.
 The pacific side, with about 1200 kilometers of
coastline, plus 300+ kilometers on the Caribbean coast
plus coral reefs, which makes great places for diving
and snorkeling.
