The document summarizes a volunteer training and orientation workshop for Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL). The workshop will be held on February 20th at Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in Durango, Colorado. Attendees will learn about CCL's methodology for developing relationships with members of Congress and media to create political will for climate action. CCL trains volunteers to advocate for a gradually increasing carbon fee with revenue returned to households, which within 20 years would reduce US emissions 50% and create over 2.8 million jobs nationally. The event leaders, Susan Secord and Chris Hoffman, have volunteered with CCL for about three years.

At this workshop, you will learn about the profound difference we make when we
empower and inspire our members of Congress to action. You will learn how to become
an effective advocate for climate solutions. You will learn about our methodology for
developing relationships with members of Congress and the local media.
The purpose of Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL)
1. To create the political will for a livable world.
2. To empower individuals to have breakthroughs in exercising their personal and
political power.
How does CCL Work?
CCL uses a mix of group empowerment and support which includes monthly national
conference calls with a guest speaker. CCL trains volunteers to speak powerfully to their
elected officials, the media, and their local communities in order to inspire members of
Congress to be leaders and spokespersons for a sustainable climate. CCL volunteers
meet with their members of Congress, launch letter-writing campaigns, write letters to
the editor and Op/Ed pieces, and generate editorials to promote a sustainable climate.
What is CCL’s focus?
CCL is focused on passing national legislation that will put a gradually increase fee on
carbon emissions with revenues returned to American households. In 10 years, this
policy will reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 33% and within 20 years by 50%. It
will also create 2 million jobs nationally in 10 years and 2.8 million in 20 years.
Event Leaders: Susan Secord is coordinator for Colorado CCL. Chris Hoffman is an
active member of the Boulder chapter of CCL. They have both volunteered with CCL for
about three years.
