Zero-energy homes aim to produce as much energy as they consume over the course of a year through innovations like solar panels, efficient appliances, and tight construction. A startup called Acre is developing prefabricated home kits and a modular system called ZERObox to make zero-energy homes more affordable and accessible at scale, with a goal of bringing their designs to 200,000 homes to save $54 billion in energy costs.
