Maybe many of you have heard of the
"cheerleading effect."
This concept presents a hypothesis
according to which people are much
more attractive in a group than on their
2
3. own.
New research shows that this may be
true.
Researchers at the University of
California at San Diego say that when we
look at a group of people, their facial
features "balance", which means that
people are perceived as more attractive
than if they had presented themselves.
To solve this mystery, researchers
turned to a group of 140 high school
students.
One of the experiments they underwent
was to show the subjects 100 people
with the request to express the
attractiveness of each one.
The same person was represented either
3
4. with two other people of the same sex or
alone.
The results showed that the participants
considered that those people are more
attractive in the group than when they
appear alone.
Researchers have shown that when we
are in a group, our attractiveness
increases from 49% to 51%.
In another experiment, participants were
shown more pictures with one person,
but these were taken in a collage of 4.9
or 16 photos.
And in this case, the researchers found
that the attractiveness was greater if
they were in more pictures than when
people appeared in a single picture.

5. The cheerleading effect - a cognitive
phenomenon.
The researchers believe that the
cheerleading effect may be the result of
3 cognitive phenomena:
First of all, our visual system associates
girls who are together in a group.
Second, each member can be "favored"
by the presence of the other.
And third, people perceive common girls
as attractive.
If we take these phenomena together,
everyone shows that people's faces will
be much more attractive if they appear in
a group because they will be close to
common groups.
