Learning can be explained by three main theories: behavioral, sociocultural, and cognitive behavioral. Sociocultural learning is influenced by family, friends and community through absorbing established culture and values. Cognitive behavioral theory suggests that providing a stimulus will elicit a response, and rewarding or punishing responses can train a person to react predictably to stimuli. For example, someone may learn to cook from a parent demonstrating techniques (behavioral), following cultural norms for cooking (sociocultural), and responding to recipes as stimuli to produce good dishes.
