This document discusses the differences between traditional publishing and self-publishing. With traditional publishing, the author completes a manuscript, submits it to a publishing house, and if accepted, signs a contract giving the publishing house control over marketing, printing, and rights while the author receives a percentage of profits. With self-publishing, the author retains control over all rights and receives all profits but has responsibility for editing, formatting, illustrating, and promoting their own work by using third-party publishers like Createspace or Smashwords.
