introduction
“pored nestvarno plavog mora”, u tišini okolnih
brda, “završavaju svi putevi svijeta”. A, “velika, mala
i o njima, ali prvenstveno priča o gradu u kojem žive i
koji postaje dom svakom dobronamjernom putniku.
Znači, pričamo Vam o Podgorici, glavnom gradu
Crne Gore, svjedoku istorije i vjesniku naše
države koja 21. maja slavi 9 godina od proglašenja
nezavisnosti.
Dobrodošli u ponosnu Crnu Goru i na let
Montenegro Airlinesa!

Dear readers,
You are holding the new edition of Luxury Inflight
Magazine, the fifth so far. The following pages are
interwoven with the colours of the summer, which
is magical and fanciful here, just like the mythical
country that you are visiting.
Describing Montenegro, Lord Byron said that for all
visitors who come here, “beside the amazing blue
sea” in “the silence of the surrounding mountains”,
“all the world’s roads end”. And this “great-yet-small
Montenegro”, as Lord Byron put it, has risen again to
European heights. Podgorica’s female handball team
have ascended to the throne of Europe, and here you
will find the story about them, but primarily we will
tell the story of the city in which they live and which
becomes home to every well-intentioned traveller.
So, we are talking about Podgorica, the capital city of
Montenegro, the witness of history and the herald of
our country which on May 21 celebrates nine years
since declaring independence.
Welcome to proud Montenegro and welcome
onboard your “Montenegro Airlines” flight!

Gradonačelnik Podgorice,
Slavoljub Migo Stijepović
Podgorica je pokretač i lokomotiva
razvoja čitave države, smatra
gradonačelnik Podgorice,
administrativnog, kulturnog i obrazovnog
centra Crne Gore. On ističe da je ovo grad i
bogate kulturne baštine i razvijenih kulturnih
sadržaja. Brojni arheološki lokaliteti i drugi
kulturno–istorijski spomenici svjedoče o
raznim kulturama, narodima i civilizacijama i
kulturnom prožimanju.
Posebnost i kvalitet Podgorice je i u
tome što baštini nezamjenjivu vrijednost
- multikulturalnost, odnosno suživot
različitosti, kaže Stjepović, najavljujući
dalji razvoj grada, koji će pratiti evropske
trendove, što pored infrastrukture
podrazumijeva i organizovanje
prepoznatljivih kulturnih i sportskih
događaja, odgovarajuću valorizaciju i
prezentaciju arheoloških lokaliteta, koji
bitno oplemenjuju prostor našeg glavnog
grada.
Poslednjih desetak godina Podgorica se
razvija u pravcu turističkog centra Crne
Gore. Uz prirodne prednosti, gradi se
Hilton - Crna Gora, postoji Best Western,
Premijer... Šta će to značiti za naš grad ?
U posljednjih desetak godina, Glavni grad
se dinamično razvijao i poprimio izgled
urbanog i modernog centra. Izgrađeni su
poslovni i trgovački centri, unaprijeđeni
postojeći hotelski kapaciteti i otvoreni
novi. Uskoro će biti prisutan i hotelski
brend Hilton, a u najavi je i otvaranje još
jednog renomiranog hotelskog brenda u
kompleksu Atlas kapital centra. Podgorica
i unapređuje imidž grada. Navedeno
predstavlja još jedan pozitivan pomak
budućem brendiranju Podgorice kao MICE
i City Break destinacije. Znači, dominantan
profil posjetilaca su biznis i poslovni turisti

koji upravo odsjedaju u hotelima visoke
kategorije, a svakako da ovakvi svjetski
hotelski brendovi unapređuju turističku
ponudu i svrstavaju nas među evropske
centre.
Sad nam je cilj da nastavimo sa
promocijom Glavnog grada kroz
učešće na konferencijama, sajmovima i
specijalizovanim kongresima, među kojima
je i predstojeći nastup Glavnog grada
na prestižnom internacionalnom sajmu
EXPO u Milanu.
Vinogradi „Plantaža“, crnogorska vina,
promocija „vinskog puta“, već su brend
Podgorice, ali i Crne Gore. Da li se i neka
druga prirodna bogatstva mogu bolje
promovisati, kao dio ukupne ponude
glavnog grada?
Imamo
najveći vinski kompleks u Evropi i svi
se slažemo da vina predstavljaju naš
nacionalni brend.
Međutim, atraktivnost pejzaža na čijim
obalama je grad «izrastao», pruža
mogućnost korišćenja jezerskog i riječnog
potencijala u turističko-rekreativne svrhe
te postoji potencijal za unapređenje i razvoj
novih oblika turističke ponude.
Skadarsko jezero, Plavnica, te lednička
jezera, Bukumirsko i Rikavačko, koji se
nalaze na śeveru našeg Grada u predjelu
Kuča, dragulji su podgoričkog regiona i u
planu nam je valorizacija navedenog kroz
razne projektne aktivnosti. Prva u nizu
je manifestacija “Dan krapa” koja će se
realizovati 6. juna, a u organizaciji TOP-a,
Glavnog grada, NP „Skadarsko jezero” i
GO „Golubovci”. Cilj ovog projekta je da se
prezentuje, promoviše i obogati turistička
ponuda i kulturna baština lokaliteta, kroz
autohtonu gastronomiju i očuvanje krapa
kao riblje vrste koja vijekovima hrani
stanovništvo Skadarskog basena i da ova
manifestacija postane tradicionalna, poput
„Dana ukljeve“ na Virpazaru.
Podgorica ima kapaciteta i za
planinarenje, biciklizam, potpuni aktivni
odmor. Vjerovatno kao gradonačelnik
imate planove i za ovaj dio ponude?
Podgorica je mediteranski grad, s mnogo
sunčanih dana u godini s prirodnim
potencijalom za razvoj oba sporta. Zato
smo i pokrenuli inicijativu izgradnje
biciklističkih staza na pet koridora. Imajući
u vidu zakonske procedure koje se moraju
sprovesti kao i njihovo trajanje, kako
za izradu projekta, tako i za izvođenje
radova, nezahvalno je govoriti o rokovima
završetka, ali kada projekat biciklističkih
staza bude završen, pristupiće se faznoj
realizaciji radova.
Radiće se na unapređenju turističke
ponude kroz razvoj avanturističkog,
sportskog i zdravstvenog turizma koja će
se bazirati na formama aktivnog odmora u
prirodi i isticanjem zdravih stilova života.

Spomenik vojvodi Mirku
„Neka se ovaj i budući naraštaj s
blagodarnošću i ushićenjem sjećaju
imena davnih junaka od 1862.
njihovom spomenu i imenu, njihova

“
Glavni grad se predstavlja

internacionalnom sajmu EXPO u Milanu
“
“
Da li ste zadovoljni tom vrstom ponude glavnog
grada?
Aktivnosti na planu kulture odvijaju se i kroz
mnogobrojne kulturne manifestacije. Podgorici
zadovoljavanje kulturnih potreba i osmišljavanje
korišćenja slobodnog vremena. Smatramo
atrakcija. Nakon istraživanja i obnavljanja koje će
se sprovesti u skladu sa zakonskim regulativima,
utvrđenje bi moglo postati živo i održivo
kulturno dobro namijenjeno različitim kulturnim
sadržajima.
Kultura grada Podgorice, biće bogatija i za dva
nova programska sadržaja Sekretarijata za kulturu
i sport. Riječ je o otvaranju „Podgoričke knjižare“
koju ćemo smjestiti na Trgu Republike u dijelu
gradske biblioteke koji je okrenut prema fontani,
kao, nadamo se, buduće prepoznatljivo mjesto
okupljanja najuglednijih književnika i autora iz
zemlje, regiona, pa i šire.
Glavni grad je inicirao organizovanje
„Internacionalnog sajma knjige u Podgorici
2015“ sa ciljem afirmacije produkcije izdavačkoga
sektora i promocije najznačajnijih autora u zemlji
i inostranstvu. Sajam će otvoriti nove mogućnosti
saradnje između organizatora poznatih književnih
manifestacija, književnih agenata, prevodilaca,
urednika, izdavača i autora iz Crne Gore, Evrope
i svijeta, a posebno mjesto zauzimaju prateći
programi, koji su koncipirani slojevito i tematski.

The mayor of Podgorica,
Mr. Slavoljub Migo Stijepović
taken from: www.volimpodgoricu.me
Podgorica is the promoter of
development of the entire state,
and is the administrative, cultural
and educational centre of Montenegro,
in the opinion of the Mayor of
Podgorica. He emphasizes that, besides
numerous realized infrastructural
projects and capital investments which
make Podgorica recognizable not only
in the region, but further afield as well,
this is a city of rich cultural heritage and
developed cultural content. Numerous
archaeological sites and other cultural
and historical monuments are witnesses
of the permeation of various cultures,
peoples, civilizations and cultures.
The unique quality of Podgorica is in
the fact that it represents a heritage of
irrepleceable value – multiculturality,
i.e the coexistence of variety, says Mr.
Stijepović, announcing the further
development of the city, which will
follow European trends, implying,
besides infrastructure, the organization
of recognizable cultural and sports
events, appropriate development and
presentation of archaeological sites,
which significantly enrich the space of
our capital city.
A city with an
open heart
for
everybody
In the last ten years, the capital city has been dynamically
developing and assumed the appearance of an urban and
modern centre. New business and trade centres have been
built, hotel capacities have been improved and new ones
have been opened. Podgorica, as a tourist destination, has
turned from category B into category A, which changes and
improves the image of the city and that is one of the positive
moves in its future branding as a MICE and City Break
destination, says the mayor, Slavoljub Migo Stjepović for
Inflight Luxury, announcing further development of the city
according to European trends
Luxury Inflight Magazine 2015 19
In the last ten years, Podgorica has
developed in the direction of the tourist
centre of Montenegro. Besides its natural
advantages, the hotel “Hilton – Crna Gora”
is being built, and there are also Best
Western, Premier Hotels... What will this
mean for our city?
In the last ten years, the capital city has been
dynamically developing and has assumed the
appearance of an urban and modern centre.
New business and trade centres have been
built, the present hotel capacities have been
improved and new ones have been opened,
and soon the construction of new Hilton
and Sheraton hotels will be finalized and
there are also indications that a new hotel
brand within the Atlas capital complex will
be opened.
Podgorica, as a tourist destination was
transformed from category B into category
A last year, which significantly changes
and improves the image of the city and
that is one of the positive moves in its
future branding as a MICE and City Break
destination – i.e. in the business tourism
segment. This means that the predominant
profile of tourists will come from the
business world, staying in high-ranking
hotels, and it is without a doubt true that
such hotel brands improve the tourist offer,
categorizing us among the major European
centres.
It is our aim now to continue the promotion
of the capital city through participation in
conferences, fairs and specialized congresses,
among which Podgorica will be presented
at the upcoming EXPO specialized
international fair in Milan.
The Plantaža vineyards, Montenegrin
wines, promotion of “the wine route” are
already Podgorica brands, as well as a
Montenegrin brand. Could other natural
wealth be better promoted, as part of the
entire offer of the capital city?
You are right when you say that Podgorica
is recognized as a wine region. We have
the largest wine complex in Europe and we
all agree that wines represent our national
brand.
However, the attractiveness of the landscape
at the coast of which the city “has grown”,
offers the possibility of potential use of lakes
and rivers for recreational tourist purposes,
and there is the potential for promotion and
development of new forms of tourism.
Lake Skadar, the Plavnica Eco Resort,
including Bukumirsko and Rikavačko glacial
lakes which are situated north of the city in
the direction of the Kuči region are jewels of
the area around Podgorica, and one of our
plans is the development of the mentioned
places through various project activities.
The first activity planned is the event called
“Carp Days”, which will take place on
June 6, organized by the Tourist Office of
Podgorica, the city council, Lake Skadar
National Park and “Golubovci”. The aim of
this project is to present, promote and enrich
the cultural heritage of these sites, through
featuring local food and protection of carp
as a fish species which has been served as
food for centuries for the population of the
Lake Skadar area and to make this an event
become a tradition, just like “Bleak Days” in
Virpazar.
Podgorica has the capacity for planning
cycling and complete active holidays. As
mayor, you probably have plans for this
part of the offer, too?
Podgorica is also a Mediterranean city,
with a lot of sunny days annually, with
the natural potential for development of
sports. That is why we have started the
initiative of building cycle routes on five
corridors. Taking into consideration the legal
procedures which must be implemented as
well as their duration, both for the project
construction and the work to be performed,
it is a thankless task to give predictions of
deadlines. As soon as the project regarding
cycle tracks is finished, the phase referring to
the realization of works will start.
We will be working on the promotion of the
tourist offer through the development of
adventure, sports and health tourism which
will be based on active holiday forms in
nature and emphasizing healthy styles of life.
Luxury Inflight Magazine 201520
Every city is a centre regarding also cultural events. Are you
satisfied with this kind of offer by the capital?
Activities of a cultural character take place through many cultural
events. Podgorica lacks a modern summer stage which would
function as a means of holding cultural programmes in the open
and through which a city would have a significant infrastructural
possibility for satisfying people’s needs for culture and using their
free time, meeting high standards at the same time. We are of the
opinion that after restoration, the Fortress on the Ribnica and
Morača Rivers, which is situated in the very centre of the city,
can become a significant cultural and tourist attraction. After
research and restoration which will be conducted in accordance
with legal regulations, the fortification could become a living and
sustainable cultural asset intended for various cultural contents.
The culture of Podgorica will obtain two new programme
contents from the Secretariat for Culture and Sports. I am talking
about the opening of the “Podgorica Bookstore” which will be
located on the Republic Square in the part of city’s library which
faces the fountain, and we hope it will be a future recognizable
place for gathering the most eminent authors and writers from the
country, region, and even further afield.
The capital city has initiated the organization of “The
International Book Fair in Podgorica 2015”, the aim of which is
to affirm the production of the publishing sector and promotion
of most eminent authors in the country and abroad. The fair will
offer new opportunities for cooperation between the organizers
of well-known literary events, literary agents, interpreters,
editors, publishers and authors from Montenegro, Europe and
further afield, and a special place is left for the accompanying
programmes, which are drafted in layers and themes.
The capital city will be presented
at the beginning of September
at the prestigious EXPO
international fair in Milan“ “
Monument to Duke Mirko
“Let this and future generations with gratitude
and pleasure remember the names of bygone
heroes since 1862. In their memory and name,
and in the name of their heroic leader, the
great Duke Mirko, I raise this monument: may
their memory live!”, said King Nikola when
unveiling the monument, which was thrown
into the Morača River after the abolition of the
Montenegrin state. The announced restoration
of the monument to the Montenegrin Duke
Mirko Petrović on the Republic Square by the
end of the year “warmed the hearts” of those
supporting sovereignty, bearing in mind the
fact that Duke Mirko was one of the symbols of
Montenegrin identity, pride and statehood
The unique quality of Podgorica is in the fact that
it represents a heritage of irreplaceable value –
multiculturality, i.e the coexistence of variety

V
eličanstven, stjenovit pejzaž
i razuđena crnogorska
obala su idealni za uživanje
u životu na otvorenom.
Lord Byron je Crnu Goru opisao
kao „najljepši susret kopna i mora“,
dok je Guardian smatra jednom od
najljepših destinacija za šetnju. Život
u Crnoj Gori sa sobom nosi zdrav i
aktivan stil života. Crna Gora nudi
priliku da se otkrije neotkriveno, da
se istraži ponosna i sjajna zemlja koja
sve više postaje poznata kao „biser
Mediterana“. Zbog činjenice da se
preko šezdeset procenata Crne Gore
nalazi na nadmorskoj visini iznad
1000 metara, da je njena obala dužine
oko tri stotine kilometara i da kroz
crnogorske planine svojim kanjonom
krivuda plahovita rijeka Tara, čini
se da Crna Gora nudi dovoljno
stvari koje bi utolile našu žeđ za
istraživanjem.
“Ako se nikada nijeste popeli na
planinu u Crnoj Gori, učinite to. To
iskustvo sigurno nećete zaboraviti,“
izjavio je Archie Thomas iz
Telegrapha. Najbolji način da vidite
neku zemlju je da to uradite sa
vrha planine, a Crna Gora je puna
impresivnih visoravni, sa najvišim
vrhom koji se nalazi na 2,522 metra
nadmorske visine.
Planina Lovćen, smještena u
jugozapadnom dijelu Crne Gore,
dominira prostorom Nacionalnog
parka Lovćen, koji predstavlja
region bogat istorijskim, kulturnim,
ekološkim i arhitektonskim blagom.
Šetačke ture kreću iz istorijskog
gradića Perasta i preko obronaka
planine Lovćen vode do sela Njeguši.
isplati.
Sa vrha Lovćena pogled puca
na poluostrvo Luštica i prelijepu
crnogorsku obalu. Luštica Bay je
smješten u podnožju planine Lovćen
i nudi zdrav i aktivan stil života. Ovaj
luksuzni stambeni projekat brzo
prirodu. Njegovih 690 hektara su
većinom pokriveni gustom pitomom
šumom, dok veličanstvene planine
i vodena prostranstva ispunjavaju
svaki pogled. U srcu projekta Luštica
Bay-a nalazi se filozofija zdravih
stilova života, gdje će stanovnici
i gosti uživati u jogi, wellness
uslugama, zahtjevnim šetnjama i
golfu na vježbalištu prvog golf terena
sa 18 rupa, koji je lično dizajnirao

priliku da preuzme svoje
ključeve: ”Život u Crnoj Gori
je miran. Svake godine idemo
na jug Francuske, ali ovdje
je priroda još uvijek divlja i
možemo već zamisliti kako
držimo mali ribarski brod u
marini ispod stana. Zaista se
radujem što ćemo provesti
više vremena u Luštica Bay-u
ovog ljeta”, rekla je Nahwat.
Ljeto u Luštica Bay-u je uvijek
nezaboravno, zahvaljujući
brojnim golf takmičenjima,
umjetničkim izložbama radova
lokalnih umjetnika i regatama
za one koji vole takmičenje.
Uz veliki broj primorskih
puteva i hajking tura, posjetioci
ove zemlje mogu uživati u
istraživanju prirode. Većina njih
se može obići pješke. U stvari,
novi vlasnici u Luštica Bay-u
koji su skloni lutanju, otkriće
da neke ture kreću upravo
od njihovog kućnog praga i
vijugaju kroz poluostrvo. U
skoroj budućnosti, Luštica Bay
će imati svoj lični „Lungomare“,
šetalište dugo četiri kilometra,
koje će biti izgrađeno oko
krivine zaliva koji obuhvata
ovo mjesto i pruža idealnu
rutu za posjetioce i vlasnike,
kako bi istražili svih 6,9 miliona
kvadratnih metara ovog
projekta.
jeste njegova jedinstvena pozicija. Stanovi
u Luštica Bay-u gledaju na more i imaju
panoramski pogled sa velikih otvorenih terasa,
koje predstavljaju savršeno mjesto za zabave
pod vedrim nebom, kako danju tako i noću. U
međuvremenu, arhitektura odaje počast bogatoj
kulturi okolnog pejzaža koristeći domaće
materijale i palete boja. Po uzoru na obližnje
živopisno mjesto Perast, svaki dom oponaša
postojeću arhitekturu regiona, usput nudeći
autentične, ali i moderne nekretnine.
Kako Luštica Bay ulazi u svoju prvu radnu
posjetiocima i vlasnicima novih stanova.

Gearing up for the
dynamic summer season
T
he majestic, rugged landscape and expansive
coastline of Montenegro lends itself to a life
enjoyed outdoors. Described by Lord Byron as
‘the most beautiful encounter between land and sea’,
and deemed one of Europe’s top walking destinations
by The Guardian, life in Montenegro comes hand in
hand with embracing an inevitably healthy and active
lifestyle. Montenegro presents an opportunity to
discover the undiscovered, to explore a land so proud
and resplendent it is increasingly becoming known as
“the pearl of the Mediterranean”. With over sixty percent
of Montenegro standing at over 1,000 metres high, a
coastline stretching three hundred kilometres and the
rapid Tara River Canyon meandering its way through the
Montenegrin mountains, there’s more than enough to
keep the explorer within us happy.
“If you’ve never climbed a mountain in Montenegro, do
it. You’ll never forget it,” declared the Telegraph’s Archie
Thomas. There’s no better way to see a country than
from the top of a mountain, and Montenegro is not
short of impressive highlands, with the highest peak in
Montenegro standing tall at 2,522 metres.
Lovćen mountain, in southwestern Montenegro, can
be found dominating Lovćen National Park, a region
rich in historical, cultural, ecological and architectural
heritage. Hikes in this region take ramblers from the
historical Perast to Njeguši village, on the slopes of
Lovćen mountain. Tackling this peak is no easy feat, but
the views at top are worth it, with commanding views

over the Luštica peninsula and the
stretching coastline.
Found at the foothills of Lovćen
mountain and championing a
healthy, active lifestyle, is Luštica Bay,
the luxury residential project that
is fast becoming one of Europe’s
most coveted natural escapes. Its
sprawling 690 hectares is covered
mostly with dense verdant forest,
while majestic mountains and
boundless waters frame every
view. Luštica Bay is very much
anchored in the philosophy of this
healthy lifestyle, with guests and
residents alike able to enjoy yoga
and wellness retreats, challenging
hikes and golf at the driving range
of country’s first signature 18-hole
golf course, designed by renowned
champion of the game himself, Gary
Player.
This Spring, Luštica Bay welcomed
first homeowners in to their own
Montenegrin paradise, ahead of
a busy summer season. Nahwat
Abdelaty was the first one to use
the chance of taking her keys:“Life
in Montenegro is calm. We go to
southern France every year, but
the nature here is still wild and
we can imagine keeping our small
fishing boat in the marina below
the apartments. I’m really looking
forward to spending some time here
this summer”, said Nahwat. Summer
at Luštica Bay is always memorable,
thanks to a bustling calendar with
golfing competitions, art exhibitions
showcasing the works of local
artists, and sailing regattas for those
with a competitive streak.
With a huge array of coastal paths
and Alpine hikes all around, visitors
to the country are not short of
natural exploits. So many of these
can be reached on foot. In fact,
the rambling enthusiasts amongst
Luštica Bay’s new residents will
find hikes meandering from their
very doorsteps, winding through
the peninsula. In the near future,
Luštica Bay will have its very own
‘Lungomare’, a four-kilometre
boardwalk, which will be built
around the curvature of the bay
encasing the development and
providing an ideal route for visitors
and owners to explore all 6.8 million
square metres of the project.
What makes Luštica Bay different
to the rest of the country’s real
estate offerings is its unique
positioning. Residences at Luštica
Bay are facing the sea with wide
outdoor terraces taking advantage
of panoramic views, perfectly
lending themselves to alfresco
entertaining throughout the day and
night. The architecture meanwhile,
pays homage to the rich culture of
the surrounding landscape using
indigenous materials and colour
palettes across all designs. Modelled
on the architecture of the nearby,
picturesque village of Perast, each
home emulates the region’s existing
architecture whilst providing an
authentic, yet modern real estate
offering.
As Luštica Bay enters into its first
operational summer season, it’s
the perfect place from which to
explore Montenegro, and discover
the wild beauty and active living
that is inherent to this land. It is for
these reasons the development is
so richly attractive and thrillingly
appealing to all its visitors and new
homeowners.

Katarina Bulatović
rukometna heroina “Budućnosti” i reprezentacije Crne Gore
“Sportske heroine Crne Gore, lavice,
najbolje u Evropi”, sve ovo slušate već
godinama. Kakav je osjećaj? Da li ovi
epiteti obavezuju ili inspirišu?
- Ljudi u Crnoj Gori su nas jako
razmazili. Njihove mezimice smo već
dugo vremena i naravno da nam svi
epiteti i sve pohvale prijaju. To nam
uvijek daje snagu kada su teški momenti
u pitanju. Možda je obaveza, ali svakako
lijepa obaveza, koju se uvijek trudimo
opravdati.
imamo. Naravno, to imaju i drugi
- O Draganu Adžiću sve riječi hvale i
dubokog poštovanja za sve što je uradio
godinama unazad. Veliki borac, veliki
radnik i veliki čovjek. Naravno da nam je
puno značilo što imamo takvog čovjeka
na klupi. Trenera na terenu, a prijatelja
van terena.
Drugi put ste osvojili titulu šampiona
Evrope. Ova i iduća godina je u znaku
odbrane te titule. Kakve su Vam
ambicije kao timu?
- Meni lično je ovo četvrta titula prvaka
Evrope, a sa timom “Budućnost” tek
druga. Ovaj tim je imao i imaće u
budućnosti najveće ambicije. Naravno
sportske rezultate, kakve u kontinuitetu osvajaju rukometašice
podgoričke “Budućnosti”, na kojima počiva gotovo cijela postava
nacionalne rukometne reprezentacije.

“Sports heroines from Montenegro”, “the
lionesses”, “the best in Europe” – you’ve
been hearing this for years. How does it
feel? Do these titles put pressure on you or
inspire you?
- People in Montenegro have really spoilt us.
We’ve been their favourites for quite a long
time and it is true that we appreciate all those
titles and compliments. They always give us
strength in difficult moments. There might
be pressure, but it is a nice sort of pressure,
and we are doing our best to live up to it.
What was, according to your opinion the
most crucial factor in the team’s victory
this year? What is it that the female
handball team possesses, and others lack?
- I have many times right from the start of
the season emphasized the fact that, besides
other things, we rely on the team spirit and
togetherness which we possess. Other teams
have all that, of course, but we have honed it
to perfection.
Many people see your team as a beautiful
microcosm of Montenegro in your unity,
structure, character and rebelliousness…
Do you agree with this opinion?
- I would like other teams, as well as the
people of Montenegro, to get along with each
other just as we do and look out for each
other. I think we are a real representation of
all these features.
How professional is Dragan Adžić as a
coach and how significant is it that he has
been with you all these years?
- Dragan Adžić deserves all the compliments
and immense respect for everything he has
done these years. He is a great fighter, a great
worker and a great man. It has certainly
meant a lot to have such a man with us; a
coach on the field and a friend off it.
This is the second time that you have won
the title of Champions of Europe. This year
and the next one you have to defend it.
What are your ambitions as a team?
- For me personally, this is my fourth
European championship title, but only my
second with “Budućnost”. This team has
always had and always will have the greatest
ambitions. It is true that we are always
hungry for trophies and that we will do
everything in our power to defend our title
and keep the trophy in Podgorica.
Where does Kaća Bulatović plan to be? At
the Olympic Games or with her family?
- Kaća Bulatović firmly believes that she will
take part in the Olympic Games in Rio. It
would be a dream-come-true to end my
career at the Olympic Games, and then
devote myself to my family.
Team spirit and togetherness, an excellent coach and ambition are a
recipe for great sports results, which Podgorica’s female handball team
“Budućnost” continue to achieve and the club supplies almost the entirety
of the national handball team. One of them is a gentle and modest girl, but a real
lioness on the field. Her name is Kaća Bulatović and she is part of the team which
has for the second time won the Champions’ Cup as the best female handball
players in Europe.
See you at
the Olympic Games!

grad
na
pet
rijeka
Kada se zađe iza uskog
primorskog pojasa, iznad
kojeg se protežu Lovćen,
Orjen i Rumija, počinje put
upoznavanja drugog lica Crne
Gore: Rijeka Crnojevića,
Skadarsko jezero, Podgorica,
pa ravnice, vinogradi…
Glavni grad Podgorica je slika
crnogorske države: dinamičan,
drzak, uzbudljiv; administrativni,
privredni, kulturni i univerzitetski
centar, izuzetne geografske
pozicije i lake dostupnosti, sa
dobro razvijenom avio, drumskom
i željezničkom konekcijom.
Uz bogato kulturno nasljeđe,
prirodne i arhitektonske atrakcije i
znamenitosti, sa pet rijeka i tri jezera,
Podgorica nosi epitet „grada na
vodama“.
Kroz „grad na vodama“ protiču
Morača, Zeta, Ribnica, Sitnica i
Cijevna, dok se u zaleđu nalaze
dva lednička jezera: Rikavačko,
na 1313 m nadmorske visine, kod
prelaza planinskog vijenca Žijovo u
Prokletije, te Bukumirsko jezero,
na 1448 m nadmorske visine, koje je
stanište endemične vrste vodozemca
Triton, a nalazi se između vrhova
Torač, Velji vrh i Gozd. Podgorica
ima i „svoj dio“ Skadarskog jezera,
pa je vodeni potencijal grada
ogroman.
Podgorica se nalazi na nadmorskoj
visini od 44 metra iznad mora,
na svega stotinjak kilometra od
primorskih ljetovališta i atraktivnih
centara zimskog turizma. Izgradnjom
tunela Sozina, iz Podgorice na
Jadransko more stižete za svega
pola sata vožnje. Gradi se tolikom
brzinom da se gotovo svakodnevno
postavljaju temelji novih zdanja,
niču kulturne, naučno-obrazovne
institucije, moderne saobraćajnice
(naročito mostovi), poslovni centri,
šetališta, škole, bolnice, spomenici,
ugostiteljski i sportski objekti.
Jedan od današnjih simbola
Podgorice je i najveći most na
Morači, Milenijum koji dominira

panoramom grada. Obnovom
državnosti, Podgorica, kao centar
naučnih, kulturnih, ekonomskih,
političkih institucija, ubrzano
počinje svoj život i razvoj. Strane
investicije od više stotina miliona
eura tokom proteklih godina, kao
i najave novih i većih, garancija
su još bržeg razvoja grada.
Nove ambasade, predstavništa
najpoznatihih svjetskih
korporacija, međunarodne i
domaće kulturne manifestacije
dovode svjetsku poslovnu i
kulturnu elitu u ovaj grad.
Gradski parkovi su zaštitno lice
Podgorice, koja je prepoznata
i kao jedan od “najzelenijih”
gradova u Evropi. Najstariji su
Njegošev i Karađorđev park, a
najnoviji je Kraljev park u centru
grada. Ekološki kutak novijeg
datuma je šetališni plato ispred
Univerziteta Crne Gore.
Nedaleko od glavnog grada,
nekada neplodno Ćemovsko
polje, danas je najveći vinograd
u jednom kompleksu u Evropi.
Ovaj vinograd možete posjetiti u
okviru turističke ponude nazvane
“Vinski put“, koja obuhvata
i degustaciju vina u vinskim
podrumima Šipčanik, Ćemovsko
polje i Lješkopolje, kao i ponudu
lokalnih vinskih proizvođača.
Odavde, autohtone crnogorske
sorte vranac i krstač, zajedno sa
poznatim svjetskim sortama,
putuju širom planete, kao vina i
lozove rakije prepoznatljive po
kvalitetu i pravi su crnogorski
brend.

su i vrhovi Brotnjik (1559 mnv) i Kamenik

pravi izazov za planinare.
Inače, Podgorica živi tokom cijele godine i
domaćin je kulturnih, muzičkih i sportskih
manifestacija, sa bogatim pozorišnim,

Crnogorska Nijagara
Najatraktivniji i najljepši
uređenim pješačkim, biciklističkim i trim stazama. Na
samom vrhu, gdje se ukazuje zadivljujuća panorama
grada, a u zelenilu šume, sakriveni su sportsko-
rekreativni tereni.
region ledničkih jezera Bukumirskog i Rikavačkog, a
Uz čuvenu lozovu rakiju i još čuvenija vina, najvećeg
vinograda u Evropi – Plantaža, uz impresivne
spomenike kulture, nadaleko čuveni staropodgorički
humor, boeme, pjesmu i lijepe žene, Podgorica zaista
ima šta da ponudi putniku namjerniku. Dobro došli!

CITY
on FIVE
RIVERS
When one goes beyond the
narrow coastal belt, above
which the mountains of Lovćen,
Orjen and Rumija stretch,
one starts to notice the other
face of Montenegro: The
River Crnojevići, Lake Skadar,
Podgorica, as well as plains,
vineyards…
The capital Podgorica is a snapshot
of the country of Montenegro.
Dynamic, bold, exciting: an
administrative, economical, cultural
and academic centre, with its excellent
geographical position and easy to reach
by air, road and railway. With its rich
culturalheritage,naturalandarchitectural
attractions and sights, with its five rivers
and three lakes, it carries the epithet “the
city on the water”.

the rivers Morača, Zeta, Ribnica, Sitnica
and Cijevna, while further out two glacial

Žijovo and Prokletije mountain. There is
Lake Bukumirsko, at 1 448 m above sea
level. Podgorica also has “its own part” of
Lake Skadar, so the water potential of the
city is great.
Podgorica is located at 44 m above sea
level, only one hundred kilometres
from well-known seaside resorts and
attractive winter tourist centres. Since
the construction of the Sozina tunnel,
you can reach the Adriatic Sea in only
half an hour by car. Building is so fast,
that new buildings are being constructed
on a daily basis, as well as new cultural,
scientific and educational institutions,
modern roads (especially bridges),
business centres, promenades, schools,
hospitals, monuments, and hospitality
and sports venues.

Witnesses of
historical remembrance
Duklja and Medun are rich
archaeological localities, which
remind us of the turbulent historical and
cultural events that took place on this
territory, and the Clock Tower with a
height of 16 metres that still dominates
the Old Town is one of the most beautiful
examples of architecture remaining from
the time of the Ottoman Empire. The
Clock Tower is one of the symbols of
Podgorica and a rare historical building
which survived multiple bombings during
World War II. This building from the time
of the Turkish occupation was built in 1667
under the governance of Vizier Hadži-pasha
Osmanagić.
The archaeological locality of Medun and
Marko Miljanov museum, are situated
about 12 kilometres from Podgorica. The
locality is well-known for its monumental
complex, which consists of the remains
of the Illyrian city of Meteon. Here is also
located St. Nicholas’ Church and the Marko
Miljanov memorial museum, an old hero
from lore still learnt by generations.
Doclea cup
The archaeological locality of Duklja
(also called Doclea) is an ancient
site from the Roman period which is
only 4 km away from the city centre,
and was introduced onto the world
archaeology scene by the discovery of
the Podgorica Cup, found in a grave
construction in 1873. The exhibit is
kept today in the State Hermitage
Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Among other religious monuments located here are:
the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ (2013)
St George’s Church (11th century)
the Osmanagić Mosque (end of 18th century)
Roman Catholic Church (1969)
as well as the monastery complexes of Dajbabe (1897)
Piperska Celija (1637)

The city of heroes
During World War II,
Podgorica was bombed 70
times and was razed to the
ground, claiming 4 100
victims. It was liberated on
19 December 1944. Under
the name of Titograd it
became the capital of the
republic on 13 July 1946.
The name Podgorica was
reinstated on 2 April 1992.
The palace complex of
Krusevac
The former Winter Palace of King
Nikola I Petrovic (Nicholas I of
Montenegro), is surrounded by a
beautiful forest park and during
the summer months it becomes a
sort of art and exhibition scene.
There is also the Church of St
Demetrius the Martyr.
Active holidays and enjoyment
For lovers of the mountains and nature, only 30 km
from the city rise more than 15 peaks higher than 2
000 m. These are the Kuči mountains or the Žijovo
massif. North of the city rise the Kom mountains:
Kučki Kom (2 487 m), Ljevorečki Kom (2 483
m) and Vasojevićki Kom (2 461 m), and also here
are Brotnjik Peak (1 559 m) and Kamenik (1 815
m). During the wintertime, but also during the
summer, these mountains are a real challenge for
mountaineers.
However, Podgorica is buzzing all year round
and is a host city for cultural, music and sports
manifestation, with rich theatre, concert and
cinema repertoires, gallery exhibitions, while the
fans of night life have clubs and discos available.
Montenegro’s Niagara
For most people the
most attractive part of
the River Cijevna, which
offers peace and relaxation
and gives pleasure and an
escape from the city’s hustle
and bustle is certainly the
“Niagara Falls”, the largest
and most beautiful waterfall
in Montenegro, named after
the world famous one...
It was constructed 150
years ago, and legend has
it that after two successive
collapses, one old lady from
Podgorica approached
the workers and said that
their toil was not in vain
and that they should, “put
sheep’s wool behind each
stone, so that the wall will
stand firm”. And this is how
Montenegro and Podgorica
got their waterfall!
The Forest Park on Gorica
Hill, is situated right in the
city centre and is a popular picnic
and recreation paradise, arranged
with pedestrian, cycle and
jogging paths. At the very top,
one can enjoy a view of the city’s
great panorama, and in the forest
greenery one can find sports and
recreational areas.
For nature lovers who enjoy
walking and cycling, trails for
thesepurposesarerecommended
in the Lake Skadar region, the
region of Bukumirsko and
Rikavačko glacial lakes, and
especially the area between the
Kom and Kuči mountains.
In the Morača Canyon, as well
as on the rivers Zeta and Cijevna
it is possible to swim during the
summer time, as well as to go
rafting, kayaking and try extreme
recreation – canyoning and
climbing.
With its grape brandy and more
famous wines which come from
the largest vineyard in Europe –
Plantaže, with impressive cultural
monuments, the widely known
old Podgorica sense of humour,
bohemians, singing and beautiful
women, Podgorica really has a lot
to offer to travellers who decide
to visit it. Welcome!

kod kuće. Podgorica je jako udobno mjesto za život;
Stanovnici Crne Gore imaju gotovo
enciklopedijsko znanje o britanskim
TV komedijama – mislim da se sjećate
kakav je to pogodak bio kad smo
doveli komičara Nikolasa Lindhersta
(Nicholas Lyndhurst), koji je glumio
Rodnija Trotera u „Mućkama“. Bio
je oduševljen kad je vidio koliko
samo ima pabova u britanskom stilu
i klubova obožavalaca te britankse
komedije. Drugi aspekti života u
Podgorici imaju više mediteranske
nego britanske karakteristike. Ovdje
vlada neka opuštena atmosfera, ljudi
vole da komuniciraju, šetaju i druže
se. Crnogorci su veoma samokritični
kao narod, ali, bili bi iznenađeni da
čuju da Britanci generalno misle da su
Crnogorci ljubazni. Na primjer, kad
sam jednom prilikom na aerodromu
upoznao jednu grupu starijih britanskih
ovoj generaciji mladih, Crnu Goru i
Podgoricu čeka svijetla budućnost.
Dolazite iz evropske metropole. Koliko
glavnih gradova. Ako živite u Podgorici, onda
morate da uživate u tome da stvari radite
na crnogorski način – imate odličnu kafu,
sjajan običaj da tokom ljeta sjedite napolju i
posmatrate ljude kako prolaze i tu autentičnu
ljepotu starog Mediterana i nevjerovatnu
ljudsku toplinu i gostoprimstvo.
sjevernog do južnog Londona ovdje možete
Piperi, a temperatura to ovdje omogućava
tokom gotovo čitave godine, osim kad duva
onaj snažni vjetar koji je karakterističan
za Podgoricu. Podgorica nije „evropska
metropola“, ali je ovdje često ljepše živjeti
nego u nekoj „evropskoj metropoli“.
Kako bi Crnu Goru, kao turističku
destinaciju, pozicionirali na mapi Evrope
i svijeta?
Da, to je jedna spektakularna turistička
destinacija.Ovdjepostojitrivrsteprimorskog
turizma. Prva je masovni turizam, gdje su
emitivna tržišta prvenstveno susjedne zemlje
iistočnaEvropa,zatimskupinautičkiturizam
u Porto Montenegru i drugim sličnim
Postoje
i druge sjajne opcije u kontinentalnom
okolini Skadarskog jezera i pješačke ture
Daleko
smo od toga, ali sa nadležnim ministarstvima
radimo na popravljanju situacije.

I feel
at home
here
I am here more than three years. I feel very at home here.
Podgorica is an extremely comfortable place to live. It is very
secure, friendly and the people share a very similar humour with
British people which creates a great sense of familiarity. Podgorica
is not a “European Metropolis” – but often it feels better than
living in a “European Metropolis”, says Benjamin Perks for Luxury
Inflight Magazine
Since you come from a European
metropolis, to what extent does Podgorica
meet your needs? As a town, how much
does it offer to its distinguished guests and
how would you describe the cooperation
with our people?
You cannot have everything, Podgorica is not
London or Paris. There is not much cultural
or culinary diversity, intellectual life is not
extensive and at a basic level there is not even
a really great Irish or British pub to watch
sports or a great place to go to brunch on a
Sunday morning as you would have in most
capitals. If you live in Podgorica you have to
really enjoy doing things the Montenegrin
way-there is great coffee, a wonderful culture
of sitting outside and watching the world
go by in summer and there is this authentic
sweetness of the old Mediterranean and
incredible human warmth and hospitality.
If you live in London you become just a
Londoner,ifyouliveinPodgoricayoubecome
more of a Montenegrin-you enjoy the whole
country. The time it would take to go from
North to south London is the time you could
go from the city to the coast or the amazing
lake Skadar or the beautiful mountains. I love
cycling –and there are spectacularly good long
distance cycling options around Podgorica-
particularly the old road to Nikšić and around
Piperi and because of the temperature these
are almost all year round, except when there
is that very Podgorica extreme winds we get.
Podgorica is not a “European Metropolis”
– but often it feels better than living in a
“European Metropolis”.
Do you perceive Montenegro as a tourism
country and to what extent? Where would
you position it on the map of Europe and
the world?
Yes, it is a spectacular tourist destination.
There are three types of coastal tourism.
The first is mass tourism primarily from
neighbouring countries and Eastern Europe,
high end tourism related to boating in Porto
Montenegro and other similar developments
and thirdly the more spiritual - “close to
nature” tourism around Ada Bojana and a
few other places. There are also great inland
options including rafting near the Bosnian
border, adventure packages around Skadar
Lake and hiking in the national parks and
potential for cycling tours. I think for this
inland and adventure tourism Montenegro
has the potential to be Europe’s number
one. I think for the coastal tourism - the
season needs to be extended for June and
September through additional attractions
such as golf courses and the proposed cable
car from Kotor to Lovćen or Cetinje. As a
UN guy I would like also to see the tourist
potential harnessed to combat poverty and
unemployment in Northern Montenegro - by
training northern youth to work in the sector
and also by ensuring that local agricultural
produce is served for example at breakfast
tables in coastal hotels. We are a long way
from this but we are working with relevant
Ministries to improve that.
Benjamin Perks, UNICEF Representative in Montenegro

Podgorica you become more of a
Montenegrin-you enjoy the whole

“ “

There is an almost encyclopedic
knowledge of British TV comedy
amongst the population for example-
and I think you may remember that
it was a big hit when we brought the
comic actor Nicholas Lyndhurst who
played Rodney Trotter in Only Fools
and Horses. He was amazed to find how
many theme pubs and appreciation
societies tribute to that very British
comedy there are in Podgorica. Other
aspects of life in Podgorica are more
Mediterranean than British. There is a
laid back atmosphere, people love to
communicate, promenade and socialize.
Montenegrins are very self-critical as a
people –but they would be surprised to
know that British people generally find
Montenegrins very polite. For example
I met a group of British elderly tourists
at the airport when they were leaving
after a holiday and I asked them what
they would remember most about
Montenegro and they replied: “We
loved Sveti Stefan, Skadar Lake and
Kotor… but the thing we remembered
most was how polite the young people
were – their behavior was impeccable”.
This region has a troubled recent past-
but if the upcoming generation of youth
are anything to go by-Montenegro and
Podgorica have a bright future.

Rudiger J. Šulc, izvršni direktor Crnogorskog Telekoma
Ovdje
gradova u kojima sam ranije radio, poput
na primjer, Hamburga i Hanovera u
Njemačkoj ili Bratislave u Slovačkoj.
Sada, nakon skoro četiri godine, mogu
reći da veličina grada ne donosi nikakva
ograničenja. Podgorica kao grad ima svu
neophodnu infrastrukturu, da uživate u
vremenu provedenom na poslu, i u svom
stanu, u sigurnoj i organizovanoj okolini,
koja mi pruža sve što mi treba, i to u
neposrednoj blizini. Naravno, trebalo mi
je malo vremena da prihvatim određene
razlike. Saobraćaj u gradu predstavlja
određeni izazov, ne zbog saobraćajnih
gužvi već zbog, hajde da ga nazovemo,
strastvenijeg stila vožnje i tumačenja
drugačije jer puno Crnogoraca ide na more
provodim sve više vikenda u “stilu odmora”,
To ranije
nijesam imao prilike da iskusim.
Uvijek raduje da se vratim
u Crnu Goru jer ovdje
osjećam puno više slobode u
svakodnevnom životu“
“
Ipak,
taj očaravajući dio se ponekad može
protumačiti i na potpuno drugačiji način.
Znate, kad god sam u posjeti Hanoveru
u Njemačkoj, gdje žive moja ćerka i
uređeno, čisto, organizovano i sigurno. Ali,
u određenoj mjeri, to je takođe i dosadno.
Treba vam dozvola da biste jahali konja,
a treba vam čak i pokrivač za konja kada
ste na javnoj površini!!!! To je samo jedan
od primjera. Tako da me uvijek raduje da
se vratim u Crnu Goru jer ovdje osjećam
puno više slobode u svakodnevnom životu.
Ovdje sam kupio terensko vozilo i divno
zbog bezbjedonosnih razloga i formalnih
ograničenja. Crna Gora nudi divlju ljepotu
gotovo četiri godine, i svakog vikenda
idem negdje, još uvijek nijesam vidio sva
turistička mjesta u našoj Crnoj Gori. Slijedi
još avantura.

Ruediger J. Schulz, CEO of Crnogorski Telekom
freedom
is here
Montenegro offers the wild beauty which is
difficult to find anywhere in Europe, and that is
exactly the fact which gives Montenegro the clear
position on the European map, while Podgorica,
where I’ve spent four years, represents a center
of life for me, a city which has its all necessary
infrastructure, and also offers the opportunity
for people to enjoy their time spent at work and
home, in a safe and organized environment, says
Ruediger J. Schulz, CEO of Crnogorski Telekom
for Luxury Inflight Magazine
-Podgorica is much smaller than other cities were
I worked before like e.g. Hamburg and Hannover
in Germany and Bratislava in Slovakia. Now, after
nearly four years, I can say that the size does not
have any limited effects. Podgorica delivers as City
all necessary infrastructure to enjoy your working
time and also I can live in my flat within a safe and
structured environment which offers me everything
within a very short distance. Of course it took me
a while to accept certain differences. The traffic is
a bit more challenging in the city, not because of
traffic jams but rather because of let us call it a more
passionate style of driving and interpreting rules,
says Schulz.
He said that he quickly got used to the short
distances in Podgorica and he emphasized that a
lot of Montenegrins were going to the coast or to
the mountains at weekends and because of that
Podgorica looked completely different.
- Since I am in Montenegro I am spending much
more weekends in a certain “vacation mode” mainly
at the coast, a wonderful area and it was pushing
me also to buy a small boat for my wife and me to
explore the country from the waterside. Fantastic.
So you see with this Podgorica is the centre of my
life but offers also a wide radius of activity within the
country in short distance, roughly an hour to coast or
mountains. This I had never before.
I am always happy to
come back to Montenegro
because here I feel much
more freedom in daily life“
“
Do you really view Montenegro as a
tourist state? How would you position
it on the tourist map of Europe and
the world?
This goes without saying, I think.
Yes for sure Montenegro is a tourist
destination. In the north the mountains
with spectacular views, the second
oldest national park in the world, then
in the middle Skadar lake with its
enormous flora and fauna and then
mainly the coast with its wonderful
beaches, Boka bay as Unesco world
heritage and so on……..I don`t want
to summarize all touristic highlights in
the country. Neverheless the charming
part can be sometimes also interpreted
completely different. You know when
I am visiting Hannover in Germany
where my daughter and grandchild are
living I am always happy to go there
because everything is very structured,
clean, organized and safe. But to ceratin
extend this is also boring. You need
a lizenc to ride a horse and even you
need a plaid for this horse when you
go out on public ground!!!! This only
as one example. So I am always happy
to come back to Montenegro because
here I feel much more freedom in daily
life. I bought here an offroad car and it
is wonderful to explore hidden places in
the country. I did this canyon walking,
I think it is called Nividio or so, it was
one of few most spectacular experiences
in my life. In Germany this would be
impossible to make a business on it
because of safety reasons and formal
restrictions. So you see Montenegro is
offering a wild beauty which is in the
meantime rare to find in Europe and
this is positioning us clearly on the map
of Europe and as I heard more and more
guest are coming out of more northern
european states. And if we promote all
together more things for example like
Golf playing or sailing in the future then
we will see that more and more people
will come in time before the high season
starts. This would give a huge benefit to
our Tourism.
And I have to tell you personnaly that
although the country is rather small
and I am here already for nearly four
years, going out every weekend but I
still have not seen all touristic places in
our country Montenegro. Still some
adventure ahead.

Ko je na prostorima Crne Gore prvi
zasadio vinovu lozu? Stari Grci,
precima? Možda to nikada nećemo saznati,
hiljadama godina vinova loza ovdje raste i
rađa vino koje priča priču o svom zavičaju:
„Ovo je Crna Gora. Zemlja vina“!
Vjekovima je vino bilo dio crnogorske
vjere, kulture i običaja. U Crnoj Gori je
rođen Vranac, vran kao vrani konj istog
imena – metafora snažnog, plemenitog vina.
Razvijalo se vinogradarstvo kroz vrijeme,
a polovinom 19. vijeka, crnogorski knjaz
Nikola Petrović je svoju podršku izrazio
riječima: „Da svaki vojnik iz mjesta gdje loza
može rasti zasadi po dvije stotine čokata“.
Za crnogorsko vino tako je počelo novo
doba. I već 1907. godine na izložbi vina u
Londonu, Crnogorski Vranac je osvojio prvu
nagradu.
Od polovine 20. vijeka razvoj vinogradarstva
u Crnoj Gori predvodi kompanija “13. jul
– Plantaže”. “Plantaže” su upravo Vrancu
posvetile čak dvije trećine svojih vinograda i
ovu veliku sortu izvele na svjetsku scenu.
Danas je Vranac nacionalni ponos i metafora
Crne Gore, male zemlje – velikih vina,
a “Plantaže” su glavni simbol modernog
crnogorskog vinogradarstva i vinarstva.

Autohtone sorte
Snaga podneblja
Blagodareći izvanrednom
podneblju, sastavu tla i povoljnom
položaju, u vinogradima
“Plantaža” se uspješno gaje
autohtone crnogorske sorte
vinove loze – Vranac i Krstač, ali
i svjetski poznate sorte kao što su
Šardone, Sovinjon Blan, Kaberne
Sovinjon, Merlo, Alikant Buše,
Negroamaro, Marselan, Petit
Verdo i dr.
Vranac je drevna crnogorska sorta
čije pravo porijeklo je skriveno u
dubinama istorije. Vranac je knjaz
veličanstvene knjaževine vina u
Ćemovskom polju, vinogradarski
i nacionalni ponos i, u skladu s
tim, zauzima čak 70% vinograda.
Proizvodi se u čak osam različitih
verzija vina: Crnogorski Vranac,
Vranac Pro Corde, Vranac
Barrique, Vranac Reserve,
Vladika, Premijer, Kraljevski
Vranac i slatki Medun.
Krstač se na Ćemovskom polju
uzgaja na mikrolokalitetu „Nikolj
Crkva“, a svi pokušaji da se
prenese u druga svjetska područja
bili su bezuspješni. “Plantaže”
su jedina vinarija na svijetu koja
uzgaja Krstač i od njega proizvodi
istoimeno vino.
Tajna Ćemovskog polja
Vinograd Ćemovsko polje nalazi
se jugoistočno od Podgorice,
između rijeka Morače i Cijevne.
Zauzima površinu od 2.310
hektara, što ga čini najvećim
evropskim vinogradom u jednom
kompleksu sa više od 11.5 miliona
čokota vinove loze. Oivičen je
vijencem golih krečnjačkih brda,
što ga određuje kao krašku kotlinu
sa izrazito žarkim i suvim ljetom i
zimom tek nešto hladnijom nego
u primorskom pojasu. Izuzetno
male količine padavina i ogroman
broj sunčanih sati, upotpunjuju
sliku ovog podneblja koje možete
zamisliti u bojama i zvucima
vrelog ljeta.
Drugi izazov sa kojim se suočava
vinova loza je zemljište, teško i
skeletno, sačinjeno od krednog
krečnjaka, prošaranog pijeskom i
šljunkom, sa mnoštvom uglačanih
oblutaka. U toj epskoj borbi
vinove loze i kamena nastaju
autentična vina “Plantaža”,
jedinstvenog, bogatog bukea,
svjedočeći o posebnosti vinograda
u kojem se rađaju.
Vina „Plantaža“ svjedoče o
jedinstvenom crnogorskom
podneblju, smještenom između
Jadranskog mora, Skadarskog jezera
i visokih planina u zaleđu, koje
stvara uslove za rađanje autentičnih,
raskošnih vina jedinstvenog karaktera.
Blizina mora u najvećoj mjeri
određuje mikroklimu Ćemovskog
polja, jer se uticaj jadranske klime
prostire širokom dolinom rijeke
Bojane sve do Podgorice u čijoj blizini
se i nalaze vinogradi.
U “Plantažama” vjeruju da su vina
„djeca podneblja“ i da karakter
i kvalitet vina potiču direktno iz
samog vinograda, i zato su posvećeni
proizvodnji vina koja su u mogućnosti
da u potpunosti izraze svoje porijeklo.
Zato, sve što rade, i u vinogradima
i u podrumima, rade sa velikim
poštovanjem prema sopstvenoj
zemlji, prema sopstvenom vinogradu i
grožđu koje se u njemu rađa. I upravo
zato uspijevaju da više od pedeset
godina proizvode najbolja crnogorska
vina – vina upečatljivog karaktera, sa
snažnim pečatom podneblja.

Riznice vina
Nova dimenzija vina sa Ćemovskog polja
započeta je sa otvaranjem velelepnog vinskog
podruma „Šipčanik“. Stari vojni aerodrom
pretvoren je u impresivnu riznicu vina, po
principu francuskih šatoa, jer je podrum
smješten usred vinograda, u istoj zemlji, u istom
kamenu, iz kojeg se loza rađa. Podrum se nalazi
na prosječnoj dubini većoj od 30 metara ispod
zemlje. U obliku je zavojitog tunela, dugog 356
metara, prosječne širine 13,5 i visine 7 metara.
U impresivnom prostoru, na 7.000 m2, vino se
njeguje u idealnim klimatskim i tehnološkim
uslovima. U drvenim buradima odležava i stari
dva miliona litara vina.
Najstariji podrum „Lješkopolje“ pretvoren je u
podrum za odležavanje specijalnih serija vina,
kao i za eksperimentalne vinifikacije.
Vinski put
Vinski putevi, najčešće,
obuhvataju staze i predjele,
kulturu i običaje, vino i
gastronomiju u određenom
vinskom regionu. Rijetkost
je, međutim, da čitavo jedno
podneblje doživite u okviru samo
jedne vinarske kuće, a upravo
to vam omogućava specijalni
program vinskog turizma
„VINSKI PUT“, koji organizuje
vinarija „13 jul – Plantaže“.
U okviru različitih tematskih
programa, moguće je proći kroz
tri različita podruma, vinoteke
i restorane “Plantaža”, kroz
autentičan svijet mirisa i ukusa
crnogorskog podneblja.
Pored specijaliteta Skadarskog
jezera, krapa i ukljeve, svježih
morskih plodova i najplemenitije
vrste jadranskih riba, sa planina
stižu najbolji crnogorski
pršut i izuzetni domaći sirevi.
Domaće specijalitete prati
širok dijapazon vina “Plantaža”
– od pjenušavih do bijelih
– svježih ili barikiranih, pa
preko osvježavajućih rozea do
crvenih – voćnih i pitkih ili
snažnih i odležalih, i tako sve do
specijalnih slatkih vina. Za kraj –
tu je i autentična crnogorska loza
od sorte Vranac.
Za individualne posjete turisti imaju na
raspolaganju dva programa slaganja vina i
slaganje vina i gastronomskih specijaliteta,
kao i mogućnost organizovanja koktela i
raznih proslava.
Podrum je za individualne posjete otvoren
svakog radnog dana od 9-15 časova.
Rezervaciju je potrebno obaviti dan ranije
putem maila visit@plantaze.com ili telefona
020 444 125 i 067 099 099.
podrum. Sva vina “Plantaža” po završetku
posjete posjetioci mogu kupiti po specijalnim
cijenama u vinoteci u samom Šipčaniku.

MONTENEGRO
A country of wine
Who was the first who planted
the grapevines on the territory
of Montenegro? Ancient
Greeks, Romans, Slavs or those who had
always been here, assimilating during
centuries with our Slavic predecessors?We
may never discover it, but it is maybe of
not such an importance, because it is for
thousands of years that the grapevines
had been growing here, creating the wine
which tells the story about its origins:
‘This is Montenegro- the Country of
Wines’!
It had been for centuries that the wine was
a part of Montenegrin faith, culture and
customs. It was in Montenegro that the
Vranac, black (trans.vran)as a black horse
of the same name was born-a metaphore
for the powerful, fine wine. The viticulture
has been developed over time and by the
half of the 19th century, the Montenegrin
king Nikola Petrovic has expressed his
support with words: ‘Let each soldier,
coming from the place where the
grapevine could grow, plant two hundred
vines.’
So, the new age has begun for the
Montenegrin wines. And ,at the Wine
Exhibition in London, held in 1907, the
Montenegrin Vranac won the first award.
Since the second half of the 20th
century, the development of viticulture
in Montenegro has been led by the
company’13.jul-Plantaze’.’Plantaze’ has
devoted even two thirds of its vineyards
to Vranac and introduced this great wine
grape variety to the world stage.
Today, Vranac is the national pride and
metaphor of Montenegro, a small country
of great wines! And, ‘Plantaze’ is the main
symbol of modern Montenegrin viticulture
and wine making.
Luxury Inflight Magazine 2015 61
The wines of ‘Plantaze’ prove
the unique Montenegrin
area, located among the
Adriatic sea, Lake Skadar
and high mountains in
the hinterland, creating
the conditions for making
authentic, luxurious wines
of the unique character. The
vicinity of the sea mostly
influences the micro climate
of the Ćemovsko field,
because the influence of the
Adriatic climate spreads all
over the broad valley of the
Bojana river to Podgorica
,in the vicinity of which the
vineyards have been situated.
Employed in ‘Plantaze’
believe that the wines are ‘the
children of terroir’ and that
the character and quality of
wines originate directly from
the vineyards and therefore,
they have been committed to
making of the wines which
can completely express their
origin.
Thus, all they do in the
vineyards and wine cellars,
they do with great respect to
their own country, to their
own vineyards and grapes,
grown in them.And that
is the way how they have
managed to make the best
Montenegrin wines over
fifty years-the wines of a
particular character with a
powerful influence of the
terroir.
Thanks to the extraordinary area,
soil composition and favourable
location, the autochtonous
Montenegrin grape varieties –
Vranac and Krstač have been
successfully grown in the ‘Plantaze’
vineyards as well as the varieties,
known all over the world ,such as:
Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc,
Caberne Sauvignon, Merlot, Alicant
Bouchet, Negro Amaro, Marselan,
Petit Verdot and other.
Vranac is an ancient Montenegrin
grape variety, the true origin of
which has been hidden in the depths
of history. Vranac is the king of
the imperial kingdom of wines in
the Ćemovsko field, viticultural
and wine pride and therefore,
it covers even up to 70% of the
vineyards. It is produced in even
eight different versions of wine such
as: Montenegrin Vranac, Vranac
pro Corde, Vranac barrique, Vranac
reserve, Vladika, Premijer, Royal
Vranac and sweet Medun.
Krstač is grown in the microlocality,
called Nikolj Crkva in the
Ćemovsko field, and all made efforts
to grow it in another world areas,
have been fruitless. ‘Plantaže’ is the
only winery in the world, growing
Krstač and making the wine of the
same name.
The vineyard of Ćemovsko
field is located to the south-
east from Podgorica, between
the Morača and Cijevna
rivers. It covers the surface
of 2.310 ha, making it the
largest European vineyard
as a single complex,planted
with over 11.5 million of the
grapevines. It borders with
the range of bare, limestone
hills, defining it as a rocky
basin with particularly hot
and dry summers and a bit
more chilly winter than in the
coastal strip. Extremely small
amounts of precipitation
and abundance of sunshine
complete the picture of this
area which you may imagine
in the colours and sounds of
hot summer.
Another challenge to which
the grapevines face is the soil,
hard and skeletal, made of the
chalky limestone, intertwined
with the sand and gravel,
with a lot of polished round
pebbles. In such an epic battle
between the grapevines and
the stones, the authentic
‘Plantaze’ wines have been
made, the wines of unique,
luxurious bouquet, proving
the uniqueness of the
vinyeard where they were
born.
The power of terroir
Autochtonous varieties
The secret of
the Ćemovsko field
Luxury Inflight Magazine 201562
Anew dimension of the wines from
the Ćemovsko field has begun
with the opening of the majestic wine
cellar ‘Šipčanik’.The old military airport
was conversed into an impressive wine
treasury, based on the principle of the
French chateaux, because the wine
cellar is located in the middle of the
vineyards, in the same country, on the
same rock, from which the grapevines
grow. The cellar is located on the average
depth over 30 m underground. Its form
is like a spiral tunnel, 356 m long, 13,5
m average wide and 7 m high. In the
impressive space,covering 7.000 m2, the
wine is tended in the perfect climatic and
technological conditions. The quantity of
two million liters of wine age and mature
in the wooden barrels.
The oldest cellar- Lješkopolje has been
destined for the wine cellar for aging of
the special lots of wines as well as for the
experimental vinifications.
Wine roads are most often,
comprised of paths and
landscapes, culture and customs, wine
and gastronomy in a certain wine region.
However, it is a rarity to experience
a whole area within one winery only
and it may come true through a special
wine tourism program called ‘WINE
ROAD’, organized by the winery ’13.jul-
Plantaže’ ad. Within different thematic
programs, there is a possibility to visit
three different cellars, vinotheques and
restaurants of the ‘Plantaže’-through the
authentic world of odours and tastes of
the Montenegrin land.
Besides the specialties of Lake Skadar,
carp and bleak, fresh sea fruits and the
finest Adriatic types of fish, the best
Montenegrin prosciutto and exquisite
local cheese come from the mountains.
The local specialties are accompanied
with the wide range of Plantaže wines-
from the sparkling to the whites-fresh or
barrique, through refreshing rose wines
to the reds- fruity and easy drinking or
powerful and aged wines to the special,
sweet wines. For the end, there is the
authentic Montenegrin grape, made of
the Vranac grape variety.
All visitors to the wine cellar ’Šipčanik’
have the opportunity to experince
the impressive atmosphere of the
unique viticultural wine cellar in
Europe, enjoying the unforgettable
odours and tastes-in the ’bouquet’ of
Montenegro.Choosing the appropriate
program of the wine tasting, the guests
discover the authentic world of our
autochtonous grape varieties as well as
our committment, tradition and our
philosophy of wines... and they have
the opportunity to sail on the sea of
vineyards in an immense Ćemovsko
field in which Vranac rules-the national
symbol of Montenegro.

Stefano Pastori, izvršni direktor Elektroprivrede Crne Gore
Crna Gora je velika
po ljepoti kojom odiše
Crna Gora je mala po površini koju
obuhvata i po broju stanovnika, ali je
velika po ljepoti kojom odiše, kaže za
Luxury Inflight Stefano Pastori izvršni
direktor Elektroprivrede Crne Gore.
Dodaje da ga naša država podjeća na
rodnu Italiju, ali u malom, iako daje utisak
strancu da je mnogo, mnogo veća. Smatra
Gori i Podgorici. Kako se Stefano Pastori
“slaže” sa Podgoricom?
Dobro se „slažemo“. Podgorica nije veliki
grad i ja se ovdje lijepo osjećam.
Podgorice. Živio sam u Milanu, ali ne volim
velike gradove jer u njima ima previše gužve
i haosa.
način života i u budućnosti.
Ima planine, more,
jezera...
Evrope i svijeta?
Savjet za Crnu Goru je da
kada gradi saobraćajnice, valja
ostavljati prostor za specijalna
vozila, kao što su kola hitne
pomoći, vatrogasna vozila i
slično, ili za biciklističku stazu.
To treba i Podgorici.
“ “
U crnogorskim planinama sam se
osjećao kao da sam na Alpima… Zbog
toga mislim da Crna Gora predstavlja
veliki potencijal i da treba mnogo uloži-
ti u turizam, a pomalo i u logistiku,
“ “
Živio sam u Milanu, a prije toga i u Veneciji.
Naravno da je velika razlika, ali jednostavnost
života ovdje ima svoju čar. Već sam rekao da
nijesam ljubitelj velikih gradova i metropola
problema.
Sigurno ste probali crnogorske
specijalitete. Kako Vam se dopada naša
kuhinja?

Uredništvo Dear readers, You are holding the new edition of Luxury Inflight Magazine, the fifth so far. The following pages are interwoven with the colours of the summer, which is magical and fanciful here, just like the mythical country that you are visiting. Describing Montenegro, Lord Byron said that for all visitors who come here, “beside the amazing blue sea” in “the silence of the surrounding mountains”, “all the world’s roads end”. And this “great-yet-small Montenegro”, as Lord Byron put it, has risen again to European heights. Podgorica’s female handball team have ascended to the throne of Europe, and here you will find the story about them, but primarily we will tell the story of the city in which they live and which becomes home to every well-intentioned traveller. So, we are talking about Podgorica, the capital city of Montenegro, the witness of history and the herald of our country which on May 21 celebrates nine years since declaring independence. Welcome to proud Montenegro and welcome onboard your “Montenegro Airlines” flight! The editors

Luxury Inflight Magazine 201514 Gradonačelnik Podgorice, Slavoljub Migo Stijepović Podgorica je pokretač i lokomotiva razvoja čitave države, smatra gradonačelnik Podgorice, administrativnog, kulturnog i obrazovnog centra Crne Gore. On ističe da je ovo grad i bogate kulturne baštine i razvijenih kulturnih sadržaja. Brojni arheološki lokaliteti i drugi kulturno–istorijski spomenici svjedoče o raznim kulturama, narodima i civilizacijama i kulturnom prožimanju. • 15.

  • 18. Luxury Inflight Magazine 201518 The mayor of Podgorica, Mr. Slavoljub Migo Stijepović taken from: www.volimpodgoricu.me Podgorica is the promoter of development of the entire state, and is the administrative, cultural and educational centre of Montenegro, in the opinion of the Mayor of Podgorica. He emphasizes that, besides numerous realized infrastructural projects and capital investments which make Podgorica recognizable not only in the region, but further afield as well, this is a city of rich cultural heritage and developed cultural content. Numerous archaeological sites and other cultural and historical monuments are witnesses of the permeation of various cultures, peoples, civilizations and cultures. The unique quality of Podgorica is in the fact that it represents a heritage of irrepleceable value – multiculturality, i.e the coexistence of variety, says Mr. Stijepović, announcing the further development of the city, which will follow European trends, implying, besides infrastructure, the organization of recognizable cultural and sports events, appropriate development and presentation of archaeological sites, which significantly enrich the space of our capital city. A city with an open heart for everybody In the last ten years, the capital city has been dynamically developing and assumed the appearance of an urban and modern centre. New business and trade centres have been built, hotel capacities have been improved and new ones have been opened. Podgorica, as a tourist destination, has turned from category B into category A, which changes and improves the image of the city and that is one of the positive moves in its future branding as a MICE and City Break destination, says the mayor, Slavoljub Migo Stjepović for Inflight Luxury, announcing further development of the city according to European trends
  • 19. Luxury Inflight Magazine 2015 19 In the last ten years, Podgorica has developed in the direction of the tourist centre of Montenegro. Besides its natural advantages, the hotel “Hilton – Crna Gora” is being built, and there are also Best Western, Premier Hotels... What will this mean for our city? In the last ten years, the capital city has been dynamically developing and has assumed the appearance of an urban and modern centre. New business and trade centres have been built, the present hotel capacities have been improved and new ones have been opened, and soon the construction of new Hilton and Sheraton hotels will be finalized and there are also indications that a new hotel brand within the Atlas capital complex will be opened. Podgorica, as a tourist destination was transformed from category B into category A last year, which significantly changes and improves the image of the city and that is one of the positive moves in its future branding as a MICE and City Break destination – i.e. in the business tourism segment. This means that the predominant profile of tourists will come from the business world, staying in high-ranking hotels, and it is without a doubt true that such hotel brands improve the tourist offer, categorizing us among the major European centres. It is our aim now to continue the promotion of the capital city through participation in conferences, fairs and specialized congresses, among which Podgorica will be presented at the upcoming EXPO specialized international fair in Milan. The Plantaža vineyards, Montenegrin wines, promotion of “the wine route” are already Podgorica brands, as well as a Montenegrin brand. Could other natural wealth be better promoted, as part of the entire offer of the capital city? You are right when you say that Podgorica is recognized as a wine region. We have the largest wine complex in Europe and we all agree that wines represent our national brand. However, the attractiveness of the landscape at the coast of which the city “has grown”, offers the possibility of potential use of lakes and rivers for recreational tourist purposes, and there is the potential for promotion and development of new forms of tourism. Lake Skadar, the Plavnica Eco Resort, including Bukumirsko and Rikavačko glacial lakes which are situated north of the city in the direction of the Kuči region are jewels of the area around Podgorica, and one of our plans is the development of the mentioned places through various project activities. The first activity planned is the event called “Carp Days”, which will take place on June 6, organized by the Tourist Office of Podgorica, the city council, Lake Skadar National Park and “Golubovci”. The aim of this project is to present, promote and enrich the cultural heritage of these sites, through featuring local food and protection of carp as a fish species which has been served as food for centuries for the population of the Lake Skadar area and to make this an event become a tradition, just like “Bleak Days” in Virpazar. Podgorica has the capacity for planning cycling and complete active holidays. As mayor, you probably have plans for this part of the offer, too? Podgorica is also a Mediterranean city, with a lot of sunny days annually, with the natural potential for development of sports. That is why we have started the initiative of building cycle routes on five corridors. Taking into consideration the legal procedures which must be implemented as well as their duration, both for the project construction and the work to be performed, it is a thankless task to give predictions of deadlines. As soon as the project regarding cycle tracks is finished, the phase referring to the realization of works will start. We will be working on the promotion of the tourist offer through the development of adventure, sports and health tourism which will be based on active holiday forms in nature and emphasizing healthy styles of life.
  • 20. Luxury Inflight Magazine 201520 Every city is a centre regarding also cultural events. Are you satisfied with this kind of offer by the capital? Activities of a cultural character take place through many cultural events. Podgorica lacks a modern summer stage which would function as a means of holding cultural programmes in the open and through which a city would have a significant infrastructural possibility for satisfying people’s needs for culture and using their free time, meeting high standards at the same time. We are of the opinion that after restoration, the Fortress on the Ribnica and Morača Rivers, which is situated in the very centre of the city, can become a significant cultural and tourist attraction. After research and restoration which will be conducted in accordance with legal regulations, the fortification could become a living and sustainable cultural asset intended for various cultural contents. The culture of Podgorica will obtain two new programme contents from the Secretariat for Culture and Sports. I am talking about the opening of the “Podgorica Bookstore” which will be located on the Republic Square in the part of city’s library which faces the fountain, and we hope it will be a future recognizable place for gathering the most eminent authors and writers from the country, region, and even further afield. The capital city has initiated the organization of “The International Book Fair in Podgorica 2015”, the aim of which is to affirm the production of the publishing sector and promotion of most eminent authors in the country and abroad. The fair will offer new opportunities for cooperation between the organizers of well-known literary events, literary agents, interpreters, editors, publishers and authors from Montenegro, Europe and further afield, and a special place is left for the accompanying programmes, which are drafted in layers and themes. The capital city will be presented at the beginning of September at the prestigious EXPO international fair in Milan“ “ Monument to Duke Mirko “Let this and future generations with gratitude and pleasure remember the names of bygone heroes since 1862. In their memory and name, and in the name of their heroic leader, the great Duke Mirko, I raise this monument: may their memory live!”, said King Nikola when unveiling the monument, which was thrown into the Morača River after the abolition of the Montenegrin state. The announced restoration of the monument to the Montenegrin Duke Mirko Petrović on the Republic Square by the end of the year “warmed the hearts” of those supporting sovereignty, bearing in mind the fact that Duke Mirko was one of the symbols of Montenegrin identity, pride and statehood The unique quality of Podgorica is in the fact that it represents a heritage of irreplaceable value – multiculturality, i.e the coexistence of variety “ “

Planina Lovćen, smještena u jugozapadnom dijelu Crne Gore, dominira prostorom Nacionalnog parka Lovćen, koji predstavlja region bogat istorijskim, kulturnim, ekološkim i arhitektonskim blagom.
  • 24. Luxury Inflight Magazine 201524 Gearing up for the dynamic summer season T he majestic, rugged landscape and expansive coastline of Montenegro lends itself to a life enjoyed outdoors. Described by Lord Byron as ‘the most beautiful encounter between land and sea’, and deemed one of Europe’s top walking destinations by The Guardian, life in Montenegro comes hand in hand with embracing an inevitably healthy and active lifestyle. Montenegro presents an opportunity to discover the undiscovered, to explore a land so proud and resplendent it is increasingly becoming known as “the pearl of the Mediterranean”. With over sixty percent of Montenegro standing at over 1,000 metres high, a coastline stretching three hundred kilometres and the rapid Tara River Canyon meandering its way through the Montenegrin mountains, there’s more than enough to keep the explorer within us happy. “If you’ve never climbed a mountain in Montenegro, do it. You’ll never forget it,” declared the Telegraph’s Archie Thomas. There’s no better way to see a country than from the top of a mountain, and Montenegro is not short of impressive highlands, with the highest peak in Montenegro standing tall at 2,522 metres. Lovćen mountain, in southwestern Montenegro, can be found dominating Lovćen National Park, a region rich in historical, cultural, ecological and architectural heritage. Hikes in this region take ramblers from the historical Perast to Njeguši village, on the slopes of Lovćen mountain. Tackling this peak is no easy feat, but the views at top are worth it, with commanding views

Found at the foothills of Lovćen mountain and championing a healthy, active lifestyle, is Luštica Bay, the luxury residential project that is fast becoming one of Europe’s most coveted natural escapes. Its sprawling 690 hectares is covered mostly with dense verdant forest, while majestic mountains and boundless waters frame every view. Luštica Bay is very much anchored in the philosophy of this healthy lifestyle, with guests and residents alike able to enjoy yoga and wellness retreats, challenging hikes and golf at the driving range of country’s first signature 18-hole golf course, designed by renowned champion of the game himself, Gary Player. This Spring, Luštica Bay welcomed first homeowners in to their own Montenegrin paradise, ahead of a busy summer season. Nahwat Abdelaty was the first one to use the chance of taking her keys:“Life in Montenegro is calm. We go to southern France every year, but the nature here is still wild and we can imagine keeping our small fishing boat in the marina below the apartments. I’m really looking forward to spending some time here this summer”, said Nahwat. Summer at Luštica Bay is always memorable, thanks to a bustling calendar with golfing competitions, art exhibitions showcasing the works of local artists, and sailing regattas for those with a competitive streak. With a huge array of coastal paths and Alpine hikes all around, visitors to the country are not short of natural exploits. So many of these can be reached on foot. In fact, the rambling enthusiasts amongst Luštica Bay’s new residents will find hikes meandering from their very doorsteps, winding through the peninsula. In the near future, Luštica Bay will have its very own ‘Lungomare’, a four-kilometre boardwalk, which will be built around the curvature of the bay encasing the development and providing an ideal route for visitors and owners to explore all 6.8 million square metres of the project. What makes Luštica Bay different to the rest of the country’s real estate offerings is its unique positioning. Residences at Luštica Bay are facing the sea with wide outdoor terraces taking advantage of panoramic views, perfectly lending themselves to alfresco entertaining throughout the day and night. The architecture meanwhile, pays homage to the rich culture of the surrounding landscape using indigenous materials and colour palettes across all designs. Modelled on the architecture of the nearby, picturesque village of Perast, each home emulates the region’s existing architecture whilst providing an authentic, yet modern real estate offering. As Luštica Bay enters into its first operational summer season, it’s the perfect place from which to explore Montenegro, and discover the wild beauty and active living that is inherent to this land. It is for these reasons the development is so richly attractive and thrillingly appealing to all its visitors and new homeowners. For more info, please visit www.lusticabay.com
  • 26. Katarina Bulatović rukometna heroina “Budućnosti” i reprezentacije Crne Gore “Sportske heroine Crne Gore, lavice, najbolje u Evropi”, sve ovo slušate već godinama. Veliki borac, veliki radnik i veliki čovjek. Drugi put ste osvojili titulu šampiona Evrope.
  • 27. Luxury Inflight Magazine 2015 27 “Sports heroines from Montenegro”, “the lionesses”, “the best in Europe” – you’ve been hearing this for years. How does it feel? Do these titles put pressure on you or inspire you? - People in Montenegro have really spoilt us. We’ve been their favourites for quite a long time and it is true that we appreciate all those titles and compliments. They always give us strength in difficult moments. There might be pressure, but it is a nice sort of pressure, and we are doing our best to live up to it. What was, according to your opinion the most crucial factor in the team’s victory this year? What is it that the female handball team possesses, and others lack? - I have many times right from the start of the season emphasized the fact that, besides other things, we rely on the team spirit and togetherness which we possess. Other teams have all that, of course, but we have honed it to perfection. Many people see your team as a beautiful microcosm of Montenegro in your unity, structure, character and rebelliousness… Do you agree with this opinion? - I would like other teams, as well as the people of Montenegro, to get along with each other just as we do and look out for each other. I think we are a real representation of all these features. How professional is Dragan Adžić as a coach and how significant is it that he has been with you all these years? - Dragan Adžić deserves all the compliments and immense respect for everything he has done these years. He is a great fighter, a great worker and a great man. It has certainly meant a lot to have such a man with us; a coach on the field and a friend off it. This is the second time that you have won the title of Champions of Europe. This year and the next one you have to defend it. What are your ambitions as a team? - For me personally, this is my fourth European championship title, but only my second with “Budućnost”. This team has always had and always will have the greatest ambitions. It is true that we are always hungry for trophies and that we will do everything in our power to defend our title and keep the trophy in Podgorica. Where does Kaća Bulatović plan to be? At the Olympic Games or with her family? - Kaća Bulatović firmly believes that she will take part in the Olympic Games in Rio. It would be a dream-come-true to end my career at the Olympic Games, and then devote myself to my family. Team spirit and togetherness, an excellent coach and ambition are a recipe for great sports results, which Podgorica’s female handball team “Budućnost” continue to achieve and the club supplies almost the entirety of the national handball team. One of them is a gentle and modest girl, but a real lioness on the field. Her name is Kaća Bulatović and she is part of the team which has for the second time won the Champions’ Cup as the best female handball players in Europe. See you at the Olympic Games! Katarina Bulatović handball heroine of the local team “Budućnost” and Montenegro’s national handball team I would like other teams, as well as the people of Montenegro, to get along with each other just as we do and look out for each other. Uz bogato kulturno nasljeđe, prirodne i arhitektonske atrakcije i znamenitosti, sa pet rijeka i tri jezera, Podgorica nosi epitet „grada na vodama“. There is Lake Bukumirsko, at 1 448 m above sea level. Podgorica also has “its own part” of Lake Skadar, so the water potential of the city is great. Podgorica is located at 44 m above sea level, only one hundred kilometres from well-known seaside resorts and attractive winter tourist centres. Since the construction of the Sozina tunnel, you can reach the Adriatic Sea in only half an hour by car. New embassies, branch offices of the best known world corporations, international and local cultural manifestations are luring the world business and cultural élite to this city. The city parks are a trademark of this city, which has been recognized as one of the “greenest” cities in Europe. The oldest ones are Njegoš and Karađorđe parks, and the newest one is the King’s Park in the city centre. The newest ecological corner is the pedestrian plaza in front of the University of Montenegro. From here, the endemic grape varieties “Vranac” and “Krstač”, together with well- known grapes from around the world travel the globe as wines and grape brandies, which are known for their quality and are a real Montenegrin trademark. Witnesses of historical remembrance Duklja and Medun are rich archaeological localities, which remind us of the turbulent historical and cultural events that took place on this territory, and the Clock Tower with a height of 16 metres that still dominates the Old Town is one of the most beautiful examples of architecture remaining from the time of the Ottoman Empire. The Clock Tower is one of the symbols of Podgorica and a rare historical building which survived multiple bombings during World War II. This building from the time of the Turkish occupation was built in 1667 under the governance of Vizier Hadži-pasha Osmanagić. The archaeological locality of Medun and Marko Miljanov museum, are situated about 12 kilometres from Podgorica. The locality is well-known for its monumental complex, which consists of the remains of the Illyrian city of Meteon. Here is also located St. Nicholas’ Church and the Marko Miljanov memorial museum, an old hero from lore still learnt by generations. Doclea cup The archaeological locality of Duklja (also called Doclea) is an ancient site from the Roman period which is only 4 km away from the city centre, and was introduced onto the world archaeology scene by the discovery of the Podgorica Cup, found in a grave construction in 1873. The exhibit is kept today in the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia. DOCLEA

During the wintertime, but also during the summer, these mountains are a real challenge for mountaineers. • 41. Montenegro’s Niagara For most people the most attractive part of the River Cijevna, which offers peace and relaxation and gives pleasure and an escape from the city’s hustle and bustle is certainly the “Niagara Falls”, the largest and most beautiful waterfall in Montenegro, named after the world famous one... It was constructed 150 years ago, and legend has it that after two successive collapses, one old lady from Podgorica approached the workers and said that their toil was not in vain and that they should, “put sheep’s wool behind each stone, so that the wall will stand firm”. And this is how Montenegro and Podgorica got their waterfall! The Forest Park on Gorica Hill, is situated right in the city centre and is a popular picnic and recreation paradise, arranged with pedestrian, cycle and jogging paths. At the very top, one can enjoy a view of the city’s great panorama, and in the forest greenery one can find sports and recreational areas. For nature lovers who enjoy walking and cycling, trails for thesepurposesarerecommended in the Lake Skadar region, the region of Bukumirsko and Rikavačko glacial lakes, and especially the area between the Kom and Kuči mountains. In the Morača Canyon, as well as on the rivers Zeta and Cijevna it is possible to swim during the summer time, as well as to go rafting, kayaking and try extreme recreation – canyoning and climbing. With its grape brandy and more famous wines which come from the largest vineyard in Europe – Plantaže, with impressive cultural monuments, the widely known old Podgorica sense of humour, bohemians, singing and beautiful women, Podgorica really has a lot to offer to travellers who decide to visit it. Welcome!

  • 47. Luxury Inflight Magazine 2015 47 I feel at home here I am here more than three years. I feel very at home here. Podgorica is an extremely comfortable place to live. It is very secure, friendly and the people share a very similar humour with British people which creates a great sense of familiarity. Podgorica is not a “European Metropolis” – but often it feels better than living in a “European Metropolis”, says Benjamin Perks for Luxury Inflight Magazine Since you come from a European metropolis, to what extent does Podgorica meet your needs? As a town, how much does it offer to its distinguished guests and how would you describe the cooperation with our people? You cannot have everything, Podgorica is not London or Paris. There is not much cultural or culinary diversity, intellectual life is not extensive and at a basic level there is not even a really great Irish or British pub to watch sports or a great place to go to brunch on a Sunday morning as you would have in most capitals. If you live in Podgorica you have to really enjoy doing things the Montenegrin way-there is great coffee, a wonderful culture of sitting outside and watching the world go by in summer and there is this authentic sweetness of the old Mediterranean and incredible human warmth and hospitality. If you live in London you become just a Londoner, ifyouliveinPodgoricayoubecome more of a Montenegrin-you enjoy the whole country. The time it would take to go from North to south London is the time you could go from the city to the coast or the amazing lake Skadar or the beautiful mountains. I love cycling –and there are spectacularly good long distance cycling options around Podgorica- particularly the old road to Nikšić and around Piperi and because of the temperature these are almost all year round, except when there is that very Podgorica extreme winds we get. Podgorica is not a “European Metropolis” – but often it feels better than living in a “European Metropolis”. Do you perceive Montenegro as a tourism country and to what extent? Where would you position it on the map of Europe and the world? Yes, it is a spectacular tourist destination. There are three types of coastal tourism. The first is mass tourism primarily from neighbouring countries and Eastern Europe, high end tourism related to boating in Porto Montenegro and other similar developments and thirdly the more spiritual - “close to nature” tourism around Ada Bojana and a few other places. There are also great inland options including rafting near the Bosnian border, adventure packages around Skadar Lake and hiking in the national parks and potential for cycling tours. I think for this inland and adventure tourism Montenegro has the potential to be Europe’s number one. I think for the coastal tourism - the season needs to be extended for June and September through additional attractions such as golf courses and the proposed cable car from Kotor to Lovćen or Cetinje. As a UN guy I would like also to see the tourist potential harnessed to combat poverty and unemployment in Northern Montenegro - by training northern youth to work in the sector and also by ensuring that local agricultural produce is served for example at breakfast tables in coastal hotels. We are a long way from this but we are working with relevant Ministries to improve that. Benjamin Perks, UNICEF Representative in Montenegro If you live in London you become just a Londoner, if you live in Podgorica you become more of a Montenegrin-you enjoy the whole country “ “ I think for this inland and adventure tourism Montenegro has the potential to be Europe’s number one“ “ There is an almost encyclopedic knowledge of British TV comedy amongst the population for example- and I think you may remember that it was a big hit when we brought the comic actor Nicholas Lyndhurst who played Rodney Trotter in Only Fools and Horses. He was amazed to find how many theme pubs and appreciation societies tribute to that very British comedy there are in Podgorica. Other aspects of life in Podgorica are more Mediterranean than British. There is a laid back atmosphere, people love to communicate, promenade and socialize. Montenegrins are very self-critical as a people –but they would be surprised to know that British people generally find Montenegrins very polite. For example I met a group of British elderly tourists at the airport when they were leaving after a holiday and I asked them what they would remember most about Montenegro and they replied: “We loved Sveti Stefan, Skadar Lake and Kotor… but the thing we remembered most was how polite the young people were – their behavior was impeccable”. This region has a troubled recent past- but if the upcoming generation of youth are anything to go by-Montenegro and Podgorica have a bright future.

  • 51. Luxury Inflight Magazine 2015 51 Ruediger J. Schulz, CEO of Crnogorski Telekom freedom is here Montenegro offers the wild beauty which is difficult to find anywhere in Europe, and that is exactly the fact which gives Montenegro the clear position on the European map, while Podgorica, where I’ve spent four years, represents a center of life for me, a city which has its all necessary infrastructure, and also offers the opportunity for people to enjoy their time spent at work and home, in a safe and organized environment, says Ruediger J. Schulz, CEO of Crnogorski Telekom for Luxury Inflight Magazine -Podgorica is much smaller than other cities were I worked before like e.g. Hamburg and Hannover in Germany and Bratislava in Slovakia. Now, after nearly four years, I can say that the size does not have any limited effects. Podgorica delivers as City all necessary infrastructure to enjoy your working time and also I can live in my flat within a safe and structured environment which offers me everything within a very short distance. Of course it took me a while to accept certain differences. The traffic is a bit more challenging in the city, not because of traffic jams but rather because of let us call it a more passionate style of driving and interpreting rules, says Schulz. He said that he quickly got used to the short distances in Podgorica and he emphasized that a lot of Montenegrins were going to the coast or to the mountains at weekends and because of that Podgorica looked completely different. - Since I am in Montenegro I am spending much more weekends in a certain “vacation mode” mainly at the coast, a wonderful area and it was pushing me also to buy a small boat for my wife and me to explore the country from the waterside. Fantastic. So you see with this Podgorica is the centre of my life but offers also a wide radius of activity within the country in short distance, roughly an hour to coast or mountains. This I had never before. I am always happy to come back to Montenegro because here I feel much more freedom in daily life“ “ Do you really view Montenegro as a tourist state? How would you position it on the tourist map of Europe and the world? This goes without saying, I think. Yes for sure Montenegro is a tourist destination. In the north the mountains with spectacular views, the second oldest national park in the world, then in the middle Skadar lake with its enormous flora and fauna and then mainly the coast with its wonderful beaches, Boka bay as Unesco world heritage and so on……..I don`t want to summarize all touristic highlights in the country. Neverheless the charming part can be sometimes also interpreted completely different. You know when I am visiting Hannover in Germany where my daughter and grandchild are living I am always happy to go there because everything is very structured, clean, organized and safe. But to ceratin extend this is also boring. You need a lizenc to ride a horse and even you need a plaid for this horse when you go out on public ground!!!! This only as one example. So I am always happy to come back to Montenegro because here I feel much more freedom in daily life. I bought here an offroad car and it is wonderful to explore hidden places in the country. I did this canyon walking, I think it is called Nividio or so, it was one of few most spectacular experiences in my life. In Germany this would be impossible to make a business on it because of safety reasons and formal restrictions. So you see Montenegro is offering a wild beauty which is in the meantime rare to find in Europe and this is positioning us clearly on the map of Europe and as I heard more and more guest are coming out of more northern european states. And if we promote all together more things for example like Golf playing or sailing in the future then we will see that more and more people will come in time before the high season starts. This would give a huge benefit to our Tourism. And I have to tell you personnaly that although the country is rather small and I am here already for nearly four years, going out every weekend but I still have not seen all touristic places in our country Montenegro. Still some adventure ahead.

  • 56. Luxury Inflight Magazine 201556 Autohtone sorte Snaga podneblja Blagodareći izvanrednom podneblju, sastavu tla i povoljnom položaju, u vinogradima “Plantaža” se uspješno gaje autohtone crnogorske sorte vinove loze – Vranac i Krstač, ali i svjetski poznate sorte kao što su Šardone, Sovinjon Blan, Kaberne Sovinjon, Merlo, Alikant Buše, Negroamaro, Marselan, Petit Verdo i dr. Vranac je drevna crnogorska sorta čije pravo porijeklo je skriveno u dubinama istorije. Vranac je knjaz veličanstvene knjaževine vina u Ćemovskom polju, vinogradarski i nacionalni ponos i, u skladu s tim, zauzima čak 70% vinograda. Proizvodi se u čak osam različitih verzija vina: Crnogorski Vranac, Vranac Pro Corde, Vranac Barrique, Vranac Reserve, Vladika, Premijer, Kraljevski Vranac i slatki Medun. Izuzetno male količine padavina i ogroman broj sunčanih sati, upotpunjuju sliku ovog podneblja koje možete zamisliti u bojama i zvucima vrelog ljeta.
Vinski put Vinski putevi, najčešće, obuhvataju staze i predjele, kulturu i običaje, vino i gastronomiju u određenom vinskom regionu. U okviru različitih tematskih programa, moguće je proći kroz tri različita podruma, vinoteke i restorane “Plantaža”, kroz autentičan svijet mirisa i ukusa crnogorskog podneblja. Pored specijaliteta Skadarskog jezera, krapa i ukljeve, svježih morskih plodova i najplemenitije vrste jadranskih riba, sa planina stižu najbolji crnogorski pršut i izuzetni domaći sirevi.

  • 60. Luxury Inflight Magazine 201560 MONTENEGRO A country of wine Who was the first who planted the grapevines on the territory of Montenegro? Ancient Greeks, Romans, Slavs or those who had always been here, assimilating during centuries with our Slavic predecessors? We may never discover it, but it is maybe of not such an importance, because it is for thousands of years that the grapevines had been growing here, creating the wine which tells the story about its origins: ‘This is Montenegro- the Country of Wines’! It had been for centuries that the wine was a part of Montenegrin faith, culture and customs. It was in Montenegro that the Vranac, black (trans.vran)as a black horse of the same name was born-a metaphore for the powerful, fine wine. The viticulture has been developed over time and by the half of the 19th century, the Montenegrin king Nikola Petrovic has expressed his support with words: ‘Let each soldier, coming from the place where the grapevine could grow, plant two hundred vines.’ So, the new age has begun for the Montenegrin wines. And ,at the Wine Exhibition in London, held in 1907, the Montenegrin Vranac won the first award. Since the second half of the 20th century, the development of viticulture in Montenegro has been led by the company’13.jul-Plantaze’.’Plantaze’ has devoted even two thirds of its vineyards to Vranac and introduced this great wine grape variety to the world stage. Today, Vranac is the national pride and metaphor of Montenegro, a small country of great wines! And, ‘Plantaze’ is the main symbol of modern Montenegrin viticulture and wine making.
  • 61. Luxury Inflight Magazine 2015 61 The wines of ‘Plantaze’ prove the unique Montenegrin area, located among the Adriatic sea, Lake Skadar and high mountains in the hinterland, creating the conditions for making authentic, luxurious wines of the unique character. The vicinity of the sea mostly influences the micro climate of the Ćemovsko field, because the influence of the Adriatic climate spreads all over the broad valley of the Bojana river to Podgorica ,in the vicinity of which the vineyards have been situated. Employed in ‘Plantaze’ believe that the wines are ‘the children of terroir’ and that the character and quality of wines originate directly from the vineyards and therefore, they have been committed to making of the wines which can completely express their origin. Thus, all they do in the vineyards and wine cellars, they do with great respect to their own country, to their own vineyards and grapes, grown in them. And that is the way how they have managed to make the best Montenegrin wines over fifty years-the wines of a particular character with a powerful influence of the terroir. Thanks to the extraordinary area, soil composition and favourable location, the autochtonous Montenegrin grape varieties – Vranac and Krstač have been successfully grown in the ‘Plantaze’ vineyards as well as the varieties, known all over the world ,such as: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Caberne Sauvignon, Merlot, Alicant Bouchet, Negro Amaro, Marselan, Petit Verdot and other. Vranac is an ancient Montenegrin grape variety, the true origin of which has been hidden in the depths of history. Vranac is the king of the imperial kingdom of wines in the Ćemovsko field, viticultural and wine pride and therefore, it covers even up to 70% of the vineyards. It is produced in even eight different versions of wine such as: Montenegrin Vranac, Vranac pro Corde, Vranac barrique, Vranac reserve, Vladika, Premijer, Royal Vranac and sweet Medun. Krstač is grown in the microlocality, called Nikolj Crkva in the Ćemovsko field, and all made efforts to grow it in another world areas, have been fruitless. ‘Plantaže’ is the only winery in the world, growing Krstač and making the wine of the same name. The vineyard of Ćemovsko field is located to the south- east from Podgorica, between the Morača and Cijevna rivers. It covers the surface of 2.310 ha, making it the largest European vineyard as a single complex, planted with over 11.5 million of the grapevines. It borders with the range of bare, limestone hills, defining it as a rocky basin with particularly hot and dry summers and a bit more chilly winter than in the coastal strip. Extremely small amounts of precipitation and abundance of sunshine complete the picture of this area which you may imagine in the colours and sounds of hot summer. Another challenge to which the grapevines face is the soil, hard and skeletal, made of the chalky limestone, intertwined with the sand and gravel, with a lot of polished round pebbles. In such an epic battle between the grapevines and the stones, the authentic ‘Plantaze’ wines have been made, the wines of unique, luxurious bouquet, proving the uniqueness of the vinyeard where they were born. The power of terroir Autochtonous varieties The secret of the Ćemovsko field
  • 62. Luxury Inflight Magazine 201562 Anew dimension of the wines from the Ćemovsko field has begun with the opening of the majestic wine cellar ‘Šipčanik’.The old military airport was conversed into an impressive wine treasury, based on the principle of the French chateaux, because the wine cellar is located in the middle of the vineyards, in the same country, on the same rock, from which the grapevines grow. • 66. Ima planine, more, jezera... To treba i Podgorici. “ “ Živio sam u Milanu, a prije toga i u Veneciji.
