1. Sociolinguistic patterns
The following reflection will give information about the text “ sociolinguistic patterns” and
how its related to an specific objective of the course lexical analysis .It will shows how
language can be an strong element in our society, according to society it reflection will
provide examples of our lives to understand about varieties in our language focusing in
explains the patterns that affect our language .
Firstly , the text reflects something that is easier to notice , its about how people is the main
element in the variation of the language or in dialect , This variation could be for different
patterns as social class (middle- lower-lipper working – middle working – lower working
class) , also it could be for style (casual- careful-reading-style and word lists – minimal
pairs) , a curious pattern “gender” that reflects ourselves is the way of how women tend to
use higher –status variants more frequently than men . Another’s patterns are social
network and age .
We have noticed this patterns in our lives , everyday we are communicating each other , in
the case of us talking with a friend the style that we used is different (informal) than in the
case of us as future professionals , we have to use a formal style of talking to our students.
Another good example is when we noticed the difference between a person with a good
education and other without education at the moment to hear the language
The text “ sociolinguistic patterns” is extremely related to the Lexical analysis course,
because of the fact that provide information about language analysis , we have been talking
about this patterns in classes .
Finally, “sociolinguistic patterns” made me reflect about how we use language in our lives ,
this make me think carefully of the importance that I have as a English student and future
teacher, if I have to teach a language I have to speak it properly .
To end up , not only the text helps me to understand properly what we have been discuss
the last class , it helps to notice the different between speakers and how from language we
can give information without telling much of ourselves.
