“His Plan
for me”
April 15, 2011 was a Friday: it was the day
my whole world was flipped upside down.
I had been married for almost 18 years,
my husband was in the Air Force and
stationed at Langley AFB in Virginia. My
girls and I were still living in our home
in North Carolina. He gave me a phone
call around 10:00 a.m. to tell me that he
wanted a divorce. I thought for sure he
would change his mind if we could just
talk about it; we had been together for
over 20 years! How could he end our re-
lationship when he swore he would never
leave? Just two weeks earlier he stood
in the driveway of our house crying and
saying how much he missed his family
and wanted us all in Virginia with him.
He did leave though, his choice changed
my whole world.
I thought I had a strong testimony, I thought
I was close to my Savior and my Father in
Heaven. It wasn’t until my husband left that I
realized how much I had to grow spiritually.
I prayed a lot in the months after he ended
our marriage. I prayed for help, I was a stay at
home mom with no money of my own, how
was I going to support my girls? Heavenly
Father had a plan for me, it wasn’t what I’d
been praying for, but it was what was best for
my little family.
When the girls finished school on June 3,
2011 we drove the three-day trip from North
Carolina to family in Colorado. We all moved
into my aunt and uncles home. They had just
put in a basement apartment with two bed-
rooms, a kitchen, large bathroom and nice liv-
ing room. We were also in a ward with people
I had known and loved for a long time.
