In the fall of nineteen eighty we were sophomores in high school.
Often she bailed me out when I didn’t do my homework
when it was due.
I was a fool back then as I am today cause I didn’t recognize
what she meant to me and that’s how I came to be where I am
today.
Chorus
I wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then.
In the four years of marriage and having two kids.
I regret what hurt me inside, I destroyed all we had.
Deep down inside I’m just a cowboy who prays to Jesus.
I wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then.
End Chorus
My sorrows didn’t matter it was far too late.
I was told to leave and never come back.
So if we can’t be civil in our disagreements, I’ll walk the other
way hoping the door doesn’t hit my back end.
End Chorus
In the past seven years, I believed every word that came out of you.
But all I got was a good tongue lashing and if I got lucky a hug
afterwards.
I’ll keep on loving you and hope your words come true.
Some say I’m downright delusional.
End Chorus
I wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then.
