3. Internet Of Things
Internet Of Things According to the Cisco
International Business Solutions Group (IBSG), IOT is
simply the Point in time when more “things or objects”
were connected to the Internet than people
8. Literature Survey
with many new concepts, IoT’s roots can be traced back to
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), from work at
the Auto-ID Center. Founded in 1999, this group was working
in the field of networked radio frequency identification
(RFID) and emerging sensing technologies.
The labs consisted of seven research universities located
across four continents. These institutions were chosen by the
Auto-ID Center to design the architecture for IoT
9. Sensor Technology
• A virtual sensor behaves just like a real sensor,
emitting time series
data from a specified geographic region with
newly defined
thematic concepts or observations which the
real sensors may not
have.
• A virtual sensor may not have any real sensor’s
physical properties
10. HOW IT WORKS
•Enabling technologies for the Internet of Things
such as sensor networks,
•RFID, M2M, mobile Internet, semantic data
integration, semantic search, IPv6, etc. are
considered in [1] and can be grouped into three
categories:
•(i) technologies that enable “things” to acquire
contextual information,
•(ii) technologies that enable “things” to process
contextual information, and

13. IOT & Industry 4.0
The Internet of Things in production and logistics is coined with the term
Industry 4.0” in Germany. Industry 4.0 is paving the way for a social and
technological revolution that will drastically change the entire industrial
landscape. Why 4.0? As since the 18th century, when the first Industrial
Revolution began, it is the fourth wave of major technological changes.
Industry 4.0 is a sophisticated approach changing the entire global value
chain: communication, planning, logistics and production
