3. Goethe in Faustus and Shelley in Frankenstein,
these stories are around two men whose mental
and physical actions parallel one another. Both
stories deal with characters, who wish to be the
hero of world.
In Faustus, protagonist seeks physical and mental
wholeness in knowledge and disaster in lust.
In Frankenstein struggles for control over aspect of
nature.
4. Faustus
Dr. Faustus explores the
theme of thirst for
knowledge.
Throughout the play
Faustus show his thirst of
knowledge. And at the
end he pay very bad for
this
At the end of Dr. Faustus
he repent for whatever he
done wrong yet he is
gone to hell and pay a
result for what bad things
5. Frankenstein
Same case we see in
Marry Shelley’s Gothic
horror Frankenstein.
Victor Locks himself in
laboratory, as winter,
spring and summer
passed away during
labors.
Showing his thirst for
knowledge. And this act
of going against science,
he get really bad result.
6. THEME
Both Faustus and Frankenstein treat some of the
same themes, specifically the intellectual pride
These attributes of romanticism in the form of a
hero are seen in both Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein
and Christopher Marlowe’s Dr. Faustus in very
much the same way. The authors use their
respective hero to show the flaws in human nature
and humankind’s predisposition towards sin using
such things as obsession, internal battles and
differing moral codes.
7. Continue….
Victor becomes so wrapped in his curiosity of
creation, that he utterly ignores the outside
world.
Faustus and Victor’s desire to create, lead
them to withdraw themselves from society.
8. Desires of both Protagonist’s
Faustus desire to create love and possess a
woman, so that he can feel at that the world
has offer.
Victor’s, desires to create life and become a
motherly figure which suppress any other
emotion or need.
Although, the characters have different desires
their actions and thoughts are closely identical.
9. “…But now that I had finished, the beauty of the
dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust
filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the
being I had created, I rushed out of the room, and
continued a long time traversing my bedchamber,
unable to compose my mind to sleep.” (p.56)
10. CONTINUE…
This example communicates not only the
lack of maturity which Frankenstein
contains but also the thoughtlessness that
he towards his creation.
