      Supernatural Physcological Slasher Gothic Zombie
• Supernatural and Phsycological horrors were
presented as the favourite sub-genre of the
target audience perhaps because the storylines
within the sub-genre bring a greater sense of
realism to the audience moreover supernatural
horrors are unable to be combated by simple
solutions supernatural occurrences are hard to
rationalize and therefore leave the audience
with a greater sense of mystery than perhaps
other genres would such as zombie and slasher
which were ranked lower by the target
audience Gothic horrors were not far behind
physcological horrors in popularity showing a
trend towards perhaps classic horror monsters
being brought back to life in film.
Why is it your favourite sub-genre?
• Below I have enlisted a sample of what respondents said for each sub-genre
• Supernatural horrors “I like supernatural films because I find ghosts
fascinating because many people debate on whether they exist, many spirits are
invisible so its hard to get rid of them, when I watch supernatural horrors it
makes me question whether there are spirits in this world or not I particularly
enjoy super natural horrors based on true life”
• Physcological horrors “ Physcological horrors play with your mind they are the
most interesting because other sub-genres are unrealistic”
• Slasher horrors “ I enjoy slashers because I enjoy how gory they can be
sometimes this can make them laughable because they are so ridiculous like the
    Scream series”
• Gothic horrors “I like gothic horrors such as the woman in black because they
are the essentially what all horror films originate from I enjoy reading novels
from the gothic genre I think more of these should be brought to life on
    screen”
• Zombie horrors “ I like zombie films as me and my friends can all gather round
and watch even those who are not into horrors can appreciate a good zombie
film because it puts you into the situation of what if people became zombies it
gives you that adrenaline rush also zombie films can be quite funny”

        Cinema Televsion Youtube Other
• Results from respondents show that
cinema is the primary place where
  people view film trailers.
• With Television and You-tube following
showing that if the audience really wish
to see a trailer they will search for it on
  youtube.
Which of the following do you find
most effective in a horror trailer?

Jumpy Scary Music Recongisable Plot Details Cliff Hangers
      moments actors
• It is clear that the respondents need plot details to be
both clear and interesting to them throughout the trailer
  as this was ranked highest.
• Scary music was followed by this I will have to ensure that
my non-digetic sounds match what is happening on the
  screen
• Jumpy moments were closely followed by these
factors, this makes sense as the primary function of a
horror trailer is to scare its audience
• Cliff-hangers and recognisable actors ranked the lowest I
believe that these were ranked as lowest as all trailers act
as a current cliff-hanger as they are montage of events
however a film trailer doesn’t run through a chronological
order it is far more spontaneous, additionally recognisable
actors do not commonly feature in trailers as the use of
unknown actors can create a greater sense of realism.
