3. WHAT IS IoT ?
IoT basically about making things Smart.
This enables the a new level of services and Capabilities.
This can be achieved by a combination of following things:
1. Adding Sensors and Actuators
2. Adding Connectivity to the Cloud
3. Implementing the things where its capabilities can be programmatically
manipulated.
Sensors &
Actuators

6. Sensors
Sensors serving the digital nervous
system which is very essential for this
contemporary world.
Sensors senses the object
characteristics and it gives input to the
gateway.
Sensors gives life to the things and
helps to function smart.
Sensors provides the data of the Things
based on the condition of the thing or
object.
7. Gateways
Gateways are the Heart of IoT cloud platform
Usually gateways are Raspberry pi, Arduino, Beaglebone Back, Intel Galileo etc..
These boards interface with sensors on one hand and cloud at the another hand.
Gateways are acts as the Actuators.

11. Smart city Eco-system
Its popularity is fueled by the fact that many Smart City solutions promise to alleviate real pains of
people living in cities these days.
Traffic management
Water distribution
Waste management
Environmental monitoring
Smart Energy Utilisation
Urban security
Structural health of building
Smart parking
12. Waste Management
Almost all cities faces waste disposal and management issues.
Factors to be consider are the cost involved in keeping the city clean and storing the waste until it is processed
and disposed off.
IoT proposes intelligent waste containers which detect the nature and levels of garbage and send notifications
to the city waste management department.
14. Conclusion
We conclude that in the rapid growing world of technology IoT must take a
major part. From the different references and presentation which we delivered
now would shows how IoT plays a crucial role to make our lives more easy and
efficient in smart manner.
“There are many initiatives for Smart Cities, but we also need Smart Citizens.”
