2. The process of taking food for
energy is called NUTRITION.

3. NUTRITION
There are two modes of Nutrition:
● Autotrophic Nutrition
● Heterotrophic Nutrition

4. Autotrophic Nutrition
The mode of nutrition in which an
organism synthesises its own food by the
help of light energy(solar energy) is called
AUTOTROPHIC NUTRITION.

5. Heterotrophic Nutrition
The mode of nutrition in which an
organism doesn't synthesis its own food
directly or indirectly, depends on
autotrophs is called HETEROTROPHIC
NUTRITION.

6. Types of Heterotrophic Nutrition
● Parasitic Nutrition
● Saprophytic Nutrition
● Holozoic Nutrition

7. Parasitic Nutrition
The mode of nutrition in which an organism
feeds upon digested or semi- digested food
and depends on their hosts is called
Parasitic Nutrition.

8. Saprophytic Nutrition
The mode of nutrition in which an
organism feeds upon dead or decaying
food and digest outside the body is called
Saprophytic Nutrition.

9. Holozoic Nutrition
The mode of nutrition in which an
organism feeds uppn complex
organic food is called Holozoic
Nutrition.

10. NUTRITION IN PLANTS
It is a biological process in which an
organism synthesises its own food by the
help of light energy (solar energy), CO₂, H₂O
etc.

12. Sunlight
Sunlight is the natural and prime source of
energy for photosynthesis. Leaves absorb
most of voilet and red colour light and emit
green light to us.

13. Water
Plants absorb required amount of water
from the root hairs and pass it to the leaves
through the xylem.

14. Carbon dioxide
Plants utilize free atmospheric CO₂ during
the process of photosynthesis to synthesis
energy rich complex called carbohydrates.

15. Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is the green pigment. It has a
remarkable ability to absorb light energy
which is converted into chemical energy
during photosynthesis.

16. PLASTID
It is also called Photosynthetic cell-
organelles.
It helps in Photosynthetis.
It has its own Ribosome and DNA.

17. STOMATA
Small and tiny pores present on the surface
of leaves are called STOMATA.

18. DIGESTION
The process of
breakdown of complex
food into very simpler
form is called digestion.

19. Digestion in Amoeba
Amoeba obtain their food by the help
of pseudopodia and digest it inside
the body by the help of vacuoles.

21. Mouth and Buccal Cavity
● Mouth helps in ingestion of food.
● The digestion of food starts in the Buccal
cavity.

22. Oesophagus
● It is also called food pipe.
● It provides passage for the movement of
BOLOUS to the stomach.

23. Stomach
● Stomach is almost J shaped structure.
● It is a digestive organ which has mainly
three parts:-
1. Fundic 2. Cardiac 3. Pyloric

24. Small
Intestine● It is the largest organ of the body.
● It has three parts:-
1. Duodenum 2. Ileum 3. Jejunum

25. Large
Intestine● It absorbs the water and minerals from
undigested food.
● It has three parts:-
1. Ascending colon 2. Transverse colon
3. Descending colon

26. Live
rIt is the largest gland, about 1.5 kg.
It is made up of hepatic cells.

27. Pancreas
● It is also called mixed gland.
● It has both exocrine and endocrine parts.
