To whom it may concern,
Amanda Brinkmann, Western Cape Provincial Government
When the Cape Town Science Centre (formerly the MTN Sciencentre) first set out on its journey to move and
re-establish itself in Observatory, I had the good fortune to be put in touch with Amanda Brinkmann from the
Western Cape Provincial Government. The Cape Town Science Centre (CTSC) had established itself as Cape
Town’s only science centre with an excellent reputation over a period of many years when we were faced with
the end of our 10-year headline sponsorship and an imminent move to a more suitable venue, which was
more accessible to all our communities. Amanda’s involvement during this challenging period was invaluable.
On our first meeting, Amanda took the time to spend at least two hours, in what I know is a hectic schedule, to
ensure she understood our situation correctly. She had the ability to see the big picture and conceptualise a
strategic path forward for our centre almost immediately. Amanda was instrumental in connecting the CTSC
with relevant individuals and organisations that had the potential to ensure Cape Town’s communities
continued to benefit from the CTSC.
Significant to me personally was Amanda’s approachable and ‘ready’ manner. She always responds quickly to
my requests for assistance and advice. On the CTSC’s difficult journey, it has been the rare individual such as
Amanda who constantly kept her door open to be of assistance at all times. Her interest in our project was
genuine and input exceptionally useful and relevant.
I sincerely hope that the Cape Town Science Centre will continue to have the benefit of Amanda’s enthusiasm,
foresight and her incredible energy for whatever she embraces.
Yours sincerely
Julie Cleverdon
Director of the Cape Town Science Centre
