I am writing this letter as a parent of a child that has been receiving services from
Amanda for 2 years. My son has been diagnosed with ADHD and received OT services
through Early Intervention. When the time came for my child to transition into
kindergarten he was denied OT services. My son was in need of services and I was not
sure how to help him. Amanda was a key player in helping my son receive the services
that he needed, and advocated for him to get not only services but also an IEP developed
and put into place.
When my son started working with Amanda he was not able to do what seemed like
simple tasks; color in the lines, cut a straight line, or sit in his chair and listen. Over the
past 2 years my child has exceled in not only these areas but many others. I know that it
has been a team of therapists and teachers that have helped my now 1st grader, but it is
Amanda that stands out for me as well as for my child.
My experience working with Amanda has been outstanding; she has communicated her
concerns as well as my son’s achievements with me on an ongoing basis. She always
sends home information with my child and shares her website so that we are able to
continue to give him support at home. She has been very accommodating with my work
schedule and is willing to call me in the evening if needed. Whenever I have emailed or
called Amanda she always responds promptly. Amanda is friendly, honest and has a
positive attitude. When my son comes home from school he is always excited to tell me
what he did with Mrs. Atkinson. She has made learning and therapy fun for him.
