USS GERMANTOWN (LSD 42)
Deck Seaman / Helmsman (E-3) (3/12-2/15)
• Served two years in the Deck Department of a Whidbey Island Class dock landing ship with 420 personnel. Checked,
serviced and maintained personal protective equipment (PPE), preserved 54 compartment spaces,and ensured the
appearance and operational status ofship’s hull, deck equipment, ship’s cranes and waterline.
• Qualified and served as Helmsman, Lookout and Lee Helmsman in Underway conditions.
• Renovated six division spaces,well deck access points,flight deck, fan rooms and Boatswain’s Mate storage lockers.
• As a Well Deck Communication Operator, Signalman and Line Handler, played a vital part in the safe execution of hundreds
of Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC), Landing Craft Utility (LCU), Combat Rubber Raiding Craft (CRRC), and
Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) launch and recovery operations during several exercises / missions.
• Served as Crane Rigger and Tag Line Handler for the onload and offload of Marine Corps cargo. One of four Seamen hand
selected to be in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of 25 Troop Berthing Spaces that accommodated 450 Marines.
