• Francesca Caccini was born on September 18th,
1587 in Florence Italy.
• She was an Italian composer, singer, and poet.
• Francesca played five instruments which are:
• guitar, lute, harp, harpsichord, and theorbo.
• She also became a music teacher and taught
singing, instrumental performance, and
composition.
3. WHAT FRANCESCA IS
KNOWN FOR
• Francesca Caccini is known for
being the first female to write
an opera on February 3rd, 1625.
• She was also the most paid
musician in the 1620s.
• When performing, people
referred to her as “La Cecchina”
which means “the songbird.”

FAMOUS PIECES
• Francesca Caccini not only composed operas,
she also composed songs and music for the
theatre. However only two pieces survived.
• The first major work is the first opera composed
by a female:

• The second major work is a collection of 32
songs, and four soprano and base duets:

Caccini, who was also a talented singer.
• Music definitely ran in their blood.
