5. 1.Nowruz Festival
Nauroze: (21-23 March)
Celebrated only in Gilgit,
Hunza, Skardu and Chitral.
Polo, foot-ball, volley-ball
and hockey matches, folk
dances and music.
6. 2.Cultural Festival
The people of Hunza valley are
scattered everywhere around
the globe with very tough and
busy schedules in a continuity
which keep all of us a bit apart
from our culture, tradition and
practices hence an
introduction to our mirror
image is essential to link us
with our ancestors and to
encounter us with our facts. It
gives me immense pleasure to
recount the wonderful time
that I have viewed with my
people
7. 3.Shandur Polo Festival
Shandur Polo Festival
Shandur Top (el. 12,200 feet (3,700 m)
located in District Ghizer (Gilgit-Baltistan
Province), Shandur-Top in Shandur is
often called the ‘Roof of the World’. The
top is flat, a plateau and can be crossed
between late April and early November.
The grade is very gradual, and the area is
crossed by small streams of trout.
Grazing in summer is plentiful.
Every year there is a Polo match played
on Shandur Top between the home
teams of Gilgit-Baltistan and guest teams
from Chitral. Shandur Pass is one of the
major mountain passes of Gilgit-
Baltistan; the people who live on both
sides of Shandur Top speak the Khowar
language;
8. 4.Babusar Polo Festival
• The Babusar Pass is
located in District Diamer
of Northern Areas. It is
located at a distance of 35
Kms from KKH near
Chilas, which takes two
hours drive onward
journey to Babusar. The
Babusar pass can also be
accessed through
Mensehra, via Kaghan
valley covering a distance
of 200 Kms
9. 5.Harvest Time Festival
Harvest Time
This festival is performed in
the same way as the seeding
festival. The villagers thank
“Allah” (God Almightly) for
the bounty that they are
going to harvest. For this, it
means lively music (drum
beats), dancing and eating
and on top of sharing the
happiness with one anothe
11. 7.Silk Route Festival
Acclaimed as the ‘greatest route in the
history of mankind’, the ancient Silk Road
formed the first bridge between the East
and West and was an important vehicle
for trade between the ancient empires of
China, India, Persia and Rome. Dating
back to 200 BC, the route was a channel
for contact between people and cultures,
inspiring the exchange of dialogue, art,
religion, ideas and technology. With its
richly diverse cultural heritage and its
wealth of natural tourism attractions
spanning across 12,000 kilometers of
ancient routes, the modern -day Silk
Road offers visitors the opportunity to
experience a unique network of
destinations, following the footsteps of
some of the world’s most acclaimed
explorers, such as Alexander the Great
and Marco Polo
12. 8.Silk Route Festival
• Historically the Gilgit-Baltistan
Province of Pakistan had close
linkages with the central Asia
including Peoples Republic of China,
Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan,
through different branches of Old Silk
Route. Similarly the region was well
connected with Ladakh, Tibet and
Kashmir. These linkages with the
outside regions had lasting impact on
communities of Gilgit-Baltistan.. Its
unique location – the main trading
route between India, China and
Central Asia (Silk Route) passed
through the area – not only made it a
meeting place for traders and
pilgrims, but also attracted emperors
and conquers from Central Asia and
Persia.
13. 9.Rama Festival Astore
Astore Valley (el. 2,600 m
(8,500 ft)) is located
in Astore District in
the Pakistani region
of Gilgit-Baltistan. The
valley, adjoining the
eastern side of
mountain Nanga Parbat, is
about 120 km (75 mi)
long, having area of
5,092 km
14. 10.Ski Festival Naltar
Naltar is a valley
near Gilgit, Hunza and Nomal, Gilgit
Baltistan in the Gilgit–
Baltistan province of Pakistan. Naltar
is 40 km (25 mi) from Gilgit and can
be reached by jeeps. Naltar is a
forested (pine) village known for its
wildlife and magnificent mountain
scenery. Now the communication is
available by the efforts of Pakistan
army signal corps (SCO special
communication organization). There
are ski lifts under the 'Ski Federation
of Pakistan'. Transport is available
from Gilgit to Naltar but during a
specific time after that own
arrangement
15. 11.Gianni Festival 21st June to 25th
June
• The traditional “Ginani’’
festival has been celebrated in
Central and Lower parts of
Hunza valley, with traditional
zeal and fervour. Main
gatherings were organized in
Altit and Aliabad villages. The
local community has
performed rituals at central
places and also performed
traditional dances on local
tunes. Special traditional dish
locally known as Dirum Pitti
has been prepared to mark
the festival
