Solu%on
  Manager
  Configura%on
  Valida%on

•  This  document  provides  a  brief  introduc4on  to  the  capabili4es
of  the  lesser-‐known  Solu4on  Manager  func4onality
Configura4on  Valida4on
•  The  document  is  aimed  at  system  administrators  wan4ng  to
become  familiar  with  Solu4on  Manager
Introduc%on

•  Configura4on  Valida4on  determines  whether  the  systems  in
your  landscape  are  configured  consistently
•  You  validate  the  current  configura4on  of  a  system  in  your  SAP
landscape  by  comparing  it  with  a  target  state  (system)
•  The  repor4ng  aspect  of  Configura4on  Valida4on  is  supported
by  the  extractor  framework  and  the  BW  layer  in  Solu4on
Manager
•  The  main  components  of  Configura4on  Valida4on
–  Comparison  Lists
–  Target  or  Reference  Systems
–  Configura4on  Stores
–  Repor4ng
Overview

Comparison
  Lists

•  Comparison  lists  define  the  systems  to  be  compared  to
reference  systems  on  a  regular  basis
•  They  contain  the  comparison  systems  not  the  reference  system
•  A  comparison  list  may  contain  systems  in  the  same  landscape
(e.g.  ECC)  or  of  the  same  type  (e.g.  produc4on  systems)
•  They  are  referenced  in  repor4ng  so  that  you  don’t  need  to
select  individual  named  systems  each  4me  you  verify  a
configura4on
Target
  Systems
  &
  Configura%on
  Stores

•  Target  Systems  and  Configura4on  Stores  work  together  to
define  which  systems  and  parameters  will  be  used  when
running  comparison  reports
•  The  reference  system  contains  the  target  configura4on  data
that  is  to  be  compared  with  actual  configura4on  data
•  The  reference  system  becomes  the  target  system  for  the
comparison
•  Once  you  have  created  the  target  system  you  have  to  assign
one  or  more  configura4on  stores  to  it,  which  forms  the  basis  of
the  configura4on  objects  being  validated
•  Repor4ng    layer
–  extractor  framework
–  BW  layer  in  Solu4on  Manager
•  Typical  ques4ons  that  can  be  answered  include:
–  Have  all  transports  from  the  development  system  arrived  in  the
produc4on  system?
–  How  long  did  a  transport  take  to  move  from  development  to  produc4on
aUer  release?
–  Are  the  client  seVngs  consistent  across  the  SAP  estate?
–  Is  the  kernel  patch  level  consistent  in  the  landscape?
–  Are  the  company  standard  security  seVngs  consistent  across  the
landscape?
Repor%ng
