Everything around us, from the clothes we wear to the food we eat,
is the result of economic activity.
• The primary sector covers all work connected with the extration of
raw materials from the Earth:
-agriculture
-livestock farming
-fishing
- mining.
• The secondary sector covers all work connected to the conversion
of natural materials into manufactured products and the production
of energy .The main industries in Spain include:
-food
-steel and metallurgy
-petroleum by-products and the chemical industry
-transport
Energy: The main sources of energy used in Spain are non-
renewable (petroleum, natural gas, uranium and coal). Renewable
energy sources are also used in Spain. The main ones are water, the
sun and the wind.
• The tertiary sector (or service sector) covers any type of work
that provides a service. Examples of services include tourism,
healthcare, education and transport.
ECONOMIC ACTIVITY IN EUROPE
Europe is one of the most highly developed regions on the planet. It
contains 10% of the world's population and 30% of its wealth.
-European agriculture is very productive because is highly mechanised.
-European industrial activity focuses on high-technology products.
-Activities related to commerce and to business and financial service are
very important in Europe, as are tourism and transport.
