Tradable solutions for a healthier life
This approach (integrated care) is complemented by the concept of people-centred models of care, which focuses on meeting the health needs and expectations of people throughout the life-course. It aims to balance the rights and needs of patients with their responsibilities and capacity as stakeholders in the health system.

The CoLab will be the base for innovative approaches for the National Health System.
It is important to note that the CoLab has partners from the overall chain value to address this complex problem.
I hope that I was able to convince you that the CoLab in ageing has a value proposition to create economic and employment value.
The CoLab proposed here differentiates from others health CoLabs because it is focus in a single problem (ageing) and capitalizes in important scientific and innovation achievements in the last 8 years.
….
The CoLab is composed by members of all the chain value in the healthcare system in the area of ageing and has the support of EIT Health, the most important European cluster in health innovation and the support of Administação Regional de Saude do Centro.
I would like also to highlight the strong synergies between the nuclear partners, including previous structural and strategic grant applications.
The CoLab is a non-profit organization with 13 partners having the same share i.e., 7.7% of the equity.
It will be located in Coimbra and it will be first CoLab in the Coast Center Region.
Finally, I would like to stress that the CoLab has the right size, that means, it is not too large neither too small.
The strategy of the CoLab includes:
1-Open Innovation which relies on the innovations produced by startups, rather than existing healthcare providers.
2- Research, Development, Living lab and test beds. Organisations interested in developing, testing and improving their products in medtech, digital health and biotech for aged individuals can do this at the CoLab.
3- Campus products. To train the new generation of health professionals (including PhD level) in a geriatric culture based on a system approach.
4- General and consulting services. The CoLab will apply for competitive national and international projects, in the 4 areas of intervention. It will also contribute to white papers and studies for regional and national bodies (e.g. Health Ministry).
